- Date: Show a date only when it is credible and relevant. A countdown that reaches zero before the site is ready damages trust.

Colorlib’s roundup recommends serving a maintenance page with HTTP 503 and a Retry-After header. That is the roundup’s recommendation; the available source material does not establish it against a search-engine or standards-body primary source. If you implement this behavior, verify the status code and header in your own hosting or application setup instead of assuming that displaying a maintenance page automatically sends them.
