This guide gives you four working ways to block or prevent it. Each method targets a different cause, so you can pick the one that matches your situation.

Why the Instagram Login Popup Shows Up on PC
Instagram uses cookies and client-side scripts to decide whether you’re logged in. When those signals fail—because cookies are blocked, expired, corrupted, or the popup script can’t verify your session—you’ll see a login overlay asking you to sign in.

Common triggers include clearing cookies too aggressively, using “strict” tracking protection, private browsing, multiple accounts in the same browser profile, or content blockers that interfere with Instagram’s scripts.
Before You Start: What to Check First
- Browser: Are you using Chrome, Edge, or Firefox? (The steps below match these.)
- Incognito/private mode: If you’re in Incognito, Instagram will often re-check your session more aggressively.
- Cookie settings: If “Block third-party cookies” is on, Instagram features can behave inconsistently.
- Extensions: If you use uBlock Origin, AdBlock, privacy tools, or NoScript, temporarily disable them to confirm the popup cause.
Method 1: Fix Your Instagram Session (Cookies + Login)
This is the most reliable fix because it removes the condition that triggers the popup. The goal is simple: keep a valid Instagram session cookie for the exact domain Instagram uses.
Chrome / Edge (Keep Cookies, Then Sign In)
Start by ensuring cookies are allowed for instagram.com, then sign in again and verify the popup stops.
- Open Settings in your browser.
- Go to Privacy & security → Third-party cookies (Chrome) or Cookies and site data (Edge).
- Set third-party cookies to Allow or create an exception for instagram.com.
- Visit
https://www.instagram.com/and sign in using the account that should stay logged in. - Close all Instagram tabs and reopen them (this forces the browser to reload session state).
If your popup disappears after this, you’ve confirmed the issue is session/cookie validation rather than a specific popup element.
Firefox (Ensure Instagram Cookies Are Not Blocked)
Firefox’s Enhanced Tracking Protection can interfere with Instagram scripts.
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Find Enhanced Tracking Protection.
- Set it to Standard (instead of Strict) or add an exception for instagram.com.
- Visit
https://www.instagram.com/and sign in. - Reload the page and confirm the popup no longer appears.
Method 2: Clear Instagram Site Data and Re-Authenticate
If cookies are stale or partially blocked, Instagram can keep believing you’re “not logged in” even if you typed credentials. Cleaning Instagram’s site data forces a clean session.

Chrome / Edge: Clear Cookies for Instagram Only
This avoids wiping your whole browser profile.
- Open browser Settings.
- Go to Privacy & security → Cookies and other site data.
- Select See all site data and permissions.
- Search for instagram.com.
- Remove site data for instagram.com and reload Instagram.
- Sign in again at
https://www.instagram.com/.
If you use multiple Instagram accounts, do this per browser profile or use separate profiles to prevent cookie confusion.

Firefox separates “site data” from general browsing data.
- Go to Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Under Cookies and Site Data, click Manage Data.
- Search for instagram.com and select it.
- Choose Remove Selected (or Remove All only if you’re OK with wiping other sites).
- Reload
https://www.instagram.com/and sign in.
Method 3: Block the Popup with uBlock Origin Rules
If the session is fine but the popup still appears (often due to overlay scripts), content blocking can suppress it. uBlock Origin is lightweight and supports precise filtering.
Install uBlock Origin
Use the official extension from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
- Install uBlock Origin.
- Open the Instagram page where the popup appears.
- Click the uBlock Origin icon.
- In the popup, open the Dashboard (or use My filters).
Use Element Blocking (Recommended)
This approach blocks the popup visually/behaviorally without guessing URLs.

- Apply the filter rule and refresh the page.
- If the popup remains, repeat with the overlay’s container (try slightly different clicks on the border/background).

Add a Targeted Filter Rule (When You Know the Pattern)
If you prefer manual rules, add them in My filters. Use only one or two rules at a time so you can tell what works.
- Open uBlock Origin → Dashboard.
- Go to My filters.
- Add a rule that blocks known popup/overlay endpoints used by Instagram web login flows.
- Save, refresh, and verify.
Because Instagram frequently changes URL patterns, this step is best done via Element blocking. If manual rules don’t work, fall back to Method 1 or Method 2 (session fixes) to remove the trigger entirely.
Method 4: Use NoScript to Block the Popup Script
NoScript is stricter than uBlock Origin and can stop the script that injects the login popup. It’s especially useful when the popup is loaded by a specific JavaScript file or tracker script.

Install NoScript (Firefox Recommended)
NoScript is most natural in Firefox, where it has deep control over scripts.
- Install NoScript Security Suite from the Firefox Add-ons site.
- Reload Instagram and watch whether the popup appears.
If the popup doesn’t appear, you can allow only the minimum needed scripts to view Instagram content without triggering the login overlay.
Block Scripts for Instagram (Then Allow Gradually)
The goal is “least privilege”: block what causes the popup, allow what keeps the site usable.

- When NoScript shows a blocked script prompt/banner, open it.
- Identify scripts related to the login overlay behavior (often ones triggered when the popup is about to show).
- Keep those scripts blocked.
- Allow the rest needed for page rendering (images and core domain scripts) so Instagram still loads.
Over-blocking can result in broken layouts, missing images, or non-functional buttons. If that happens, allow scripts in small increments.
Troubleshooting When the Popup Still Appears
The popup appears only on one browser profile
That points to corrupted cookies, a conflicting extension, or privacy settings in that specific profile. Try Method 2 (clear Instagram site data) and then re-sign in.
The popup appears after a while (not immediately)
That often indicates session expiry or cookie cleanup (e.g., “clear cookies on exit” settings). Check if your browser or an extension is deleting cookies automatically.
uBlock Origin blocks the popup but Instagram becomes unusable
Delete the most aggressive custom filters and re-try Element blocking targeting only the popup overlay. Alternatively, revert to Method 1 and use uBlock Origin as a last resort.
NoScript stops the popup but breaks Instagram navigation
Reduce blocking scope. Allow scripts for instagram.com and only keep specific popup-related scripts blocked. If you can’t get stable results, switch back to uBlock Origin (Method 3) or session cleanup (Method 2).
Multiple accounts make it worse
Log out of Instagram, clear site data for instagram.com, then sign in to the intended account. If you need multiple accounts, use separate browser profiles or separate Chrome/Edge profile containers.

Common Mistakes That Make It Worse
- Clearing all cookies regularly: If you wipe cookies on exit, Instagram will trigger login verification more often.
- Blocking too broadly: A generic “block scripts on instagram.com” rule often kills core functionality.
- Using strict tracking protection: Strict mode can interfere with the login check that proves you’re authenticated.
