In this manufacturer-spec shortlist, the BenQ TH690ST and ViewSonic X2 are the short-throw options; the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro favors portability and built-in smart features, while Epson’s EF22 family offers a compact laser design. The evidence supports four models, not a verified top five, and these are not hands-on test results.
Measure the room before choosing a projector
Measure from the planned lens position to the image plane, then decide the image width or diagonal you want. A projector’s throw ratio is throw distance divided by image width: the lower the ratio, the wider the image at the same distance. Use the manufacturer’s throw chart or calculator to check the planned size and position before buying. Confirm that the image fits the wall or screen and that the projector can sit where the calculation requires. Keystone correction or automatic alignment can compensate for some imperfect placement, but it does not replace checking the geometry first.

This is a shortlist based on manufacturer documentation, not a comparative test. The brightness figures below use different measurement standards, so they should not be ranked as though they came from one common test.

BenQ TH690ST: short throw with gaming specifications
BenQ lists a 0.69–0.83 throw ratio, native 1080p resolution, 2,300 ANSI lumens and 1.2× zoom for the TH690ST. Its overview gives an example of a 100-inch image at five feet. For gaming, the manufacturer lists input lag of 16.7 ms at 1080p/60 Hz and 8.3 ms at 1080p/120 Hz. Check the intended console or PC mode and its supported refresh rate against those figures. ViewSonic X2: short-throw home entertainment
ViewSonic describes the X2 as a smart LED short-throw home projector. Its listed ratio is 0.69–0.83, and the manufacturer says it can produce a 100-inch image at 1.53 m. The page specifies native 1080p and 3,100 LED lumens; retain that label when comparing it with projectors rated in ANSI or ISO lumens. XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro: portable smart features
The MoGo 3 Pro weighs 1.1 kg and combines native 1080p, Google TV and a 1.2:1 throw ratio. XGIMI lists 450 ISO lumens and a supported image range of 40–200 inches, while its support guidance recommends 60–120 inches for best viewing. Those are distinct figures: the broader supported range is not the same as the manufacturer’s recommended viewing range. Check the MoGo 3 Pro specifications and XGIMI’s size guidance.

Epson EF22 family: compact laser, with regional details to verify
Epson’s EF21/EF22 user guide lists 1,000 lumens of white output and 1,000 lumens of colour output under its stated conditions, with image sizes from 30 to 150 inches. Epson Australia’s EF-22B page lists a 1.0 throw ratio and an adjustable stand. The sources use different regional naming and product details, so confirm the precise local suffix, software bundle, warranty and port configuration with the seller. How to choose for your room
Choose placement fit first
The TH690ST and X2 share the listed 0.69–0.83 short-throw ratio range, which makes them the clearest candidates here when the lens must sit close to the screen. The MoGo 3 Pro’s 1.2:1 ratio and the EF-22B’s 1.0 ratio describe different placement geometry; use each model’s throw chart with your actual distance rather than assuming its maximum image size will fit.

Match brightness to the room—and compare like with like
Room lighting affects how bright an image appears, so consider whether you can darken the room and how large an image you plan to use. The listed measurements are not directly interchangeable: BenQ gives ANSI lumens, XGIMI gives ISO lumens, ViewSonic gives LED lumens, and Epson reports white and colour output under specified conditions. The manufacturer pages do not establish a shared test basis for ranking these values.

Prioritize the features you will actually use
- Gaming: Compare the TH690ST’s published input-lag figures with the resolution and refresh mode you use.
- Streaming: The MoGo 3 Pro explicitly lists Google TV. For the other models, verify the exact regional configuration and any external streaming-device requirement before purchase.
- Portability: The MoGo 3 Pro is the documented lightweight option here; account for any stand, case or power accessory you need.
- Mounting and adjustment: Check the included stand or mounting arrangement and confirm accessory compatibility with the model.
What this shortlist can—and cannot—establish
The manufacturer specifications document four options with relevant small-room characteristics, but they do not establish a fifth pick or a defensible top-five ranking. They also do not provide independent comparative measurements of image quality, fan noise, reliability or overall value. Prices and current stock were not verified, so check local availability and the exact product version before deciding.
