Choose by print size and how you use the printer
For frequent 4×6 photos and borderless output
The G620 is the clearest fit among these options when you expect to print snapshots regularly and want a refillable-tank model. Canon advertises approximately 2.5 cents of ink per 4×6 color photo. This is a manufacturer estimate for ink, not an independently measured total print cost; paper and the printer itself are not included in that figure. Check Canon’s G620 product listing for the supported media and current availability.
For larger prints and scanning or copying
The ET-8500 combines six-color photo printing with all-in-one functionality and supports borderless output up to 8.5×11 inches, according to Epson. Choose it if that size range and the additional functions matter more than a compact footprint. Epson’s estimate of about 4 cents per 4×6 photo is not directly comparable with Canon’s G620 figure: Epson’s page makes a comparison with traditional cartridges, while Canon’s figure is described as ink cost. For a small printer dedicated to snapshots
The SELPHY CP1500 is intended for 4×6-inch and smaller formats rather than larger prints. Canon lists glossy, semi-gloss and satin finishes. Its compact format may suit occasional snapshot printing, but include the cost and availability of the model-compatible ink-and-paper set in your decision. For the iP8720, verify that it is actually available
Canon’s product page describes six individual inks, including gray, and a conditional longevity claim, but current-market availability is not established here. Treat it as a model to investigate rather than a dependable current recommendation. Its age and the availability of compatible paper and ink matter as much as its listed features.

What to check before you buy
- Set your maximum print size. A printer that tops out at snapshot sizes will not serve a need for letter-size borderless photos. Compare the size you actually want with the model’s stated output limits.
- Estimate your print frequency. For regular printing, look beyond a headline per-photo figure: add printer price, compatible paper and ink or ink-and-paper sets. For occasional use, the initial printer cost and supply availability may matter more.
- Decide whether you need an all-in-one. The ET-8500 is described as an all-in-one. If you need scanning or copying, verify the exact functions for the regional model; if not, a dedicated photo printer may better match your priorities.
- Confirm supplies and media compatibility. Check that the paper sizes and finishes you want are supported and that model-compatible ink or paper sets are currently available where you live.
- Check local price, stock and specifications. Model names, costs, supplies and features can vary by country and change over time. Manufacturer U.S. pages do not establish availability or pricing in every market.
How to read cost and print-life claims
Canon’s G620 estimate of about 2.5 cents per 4×6 color photo is an ink-cost estimate. Epson’s ET-8500 page gives an estimate of about 4 cents per 4×6 photo and compares it with 40 cents for traditional cartridges. The pages do not establish equivalent assumptions, and neither figure is a complete ownership-cost comparison. Your paper choice, purchase price and printing habits affect the cost you actually pay.

Canon advertises up to 100 years in album storage for G620 prints under its stated conditions and up to 100 years for SELPHY CP1500 prints under its conditions. For the iP8720, Canon claims up to 300 years in an archival-quality photo album with select genuine ink and paper. These figures should not be compared as though they came from the same materials and storage setup. Check the relevant manufacturer’s product information for the conditions before relying on a longevity claim.
