Free multi-step form templates are a fast way to start a sign-up, booking, application, survey, or checkout flow, but the 36 examples in Colorlib’s September 2026 roundup are front-end templates only. They show the steps, progress indicators, and browser-side checks. They do not store, email, or process what a visitor enters. Your backend or a third-party form service has to do that work before the form goes live.
What the 36 templates include
Colorlib’s roundup, dated September 28, 2026 and labelled as updated in September 2026, lists 36 examples. According to the publisher, 30 of them are older wizards that were rebuilt, and six are newer multi-step snippets. The use cases covered are sign-ups, hotel and table bookings, course registration, job applications, checkout, surveys, and reviews. Those counts are the publisher’s own figures for its roundup; they describe what Colorlib has published, not how widely any template is used. Does Bootstrap have a built-in wizard?
No, according to Colorlib’s own FAQ. The roundup states: “Bootstrap has no wizard or stepper component, so most Bootstrap wizards either use a jQuery plugin or combine tabs, a progress bar and some JavaScript.” That is the publisher’s description of the ecosystem, not a statement from Bootstrap’s maintainers. In practice, a multi-step form built on Bootstrap is usually a combination of its layout and form classes with custom step logic, which is what the templates supply.
Front-end templates versus working forms
The roundup is explicit on this point. Asked whether the forms send data anywhere, Colorlib answers that they are front-end templates. Users need to connect a backend or form service, and they must validate the input again on the server, because browser checks can be bypassed. Treat every template’s validation as a usability feature, not a security control.

Before launch, work through these steps:
- Choose the destination for submissions. Either write a server endpoint that accepts the form’s POST data, or point the form at a hosted form service that your provider documents.
- Map each field to a name attribute. Confirm the names in the template’s HTML match what your backend expects. Rename them in the markup, not only in the display labels.
- Repeat every validation rule on the server. Check required fields, formats, lengths, and allowed values again after submission, and reject bad input with a clear error response.
- Handle the final step’s state. Decide what happens when a user refreshes mid-flow or returns with the back button, since the browser-side step state does not persist by itself.
- Test the full path with real submissions. Send a complete entry through your endpoint or service and confirm the record, notification, or payment flow completes.
Matching a template to the task
Colorlib gives specific starting points for three common jobs. Use them as a shortlist, then compare the layout against your own fields and steps.

For course registration, job applications, surveys, and reviews, browse the roundup’s listing and open the examples whose step count and field types fit your form. The publisher’s descriptions do not replace testing each one against your own data.

Dependencies and files
Colorlib says the rebuilt files use HTML, CSS, and a small amount of vanilla JavaScript. They do not rely on a wizard plugin, Bootstrap files, or jQuery. The publisher also says they can sit inside Bootstrap 4, 5, or 6 layouts. Those compatibility claims come from Colorlib; they have not been independently verified against each release.
A typical download contains index.html, css/style.css, js/snippet.js, an images folder, and self-hosted fonts, with no CDN calls. Because the stylesheet uses namespaced classes to reduce collisions, the publisher’s advice is to load it after Bootstrap if the page already includes Bootstrap’s CSS. Loading order matters: placing the snippet stylesheet first can let Bootstrap’s rules override it.

Some examples use native date pickers or native select elements. Those controls depend on the browser and operating system for their appearance and behaviour on mobile devices, so test them on the devices your users actually use.
Licensing: check each download
Colorlib states that its snippets are free for personal and commercial projects under the CC BY 3.0 licence, provided the credit link is kept. Confirm the licence file and attribution requirement in the specific download you use, because the terms are the publisher’s statement and each package may differ.

Do not assume that an older open-source wizard carries the same terms. The archived GitHub project gilluminate/Bootstrap-Wizard is a different, older implementation. Its repository says it requires Bootstrap 2.0 or later and jQuery 1.4 or later, is licensed under GPLv3 or later, and is no longer maintained; it was archived on May 30, 2018. Its dependencies and licence do not apply to Colorlib’s downloads, and its jQuery requirement is the opposite of the Colorlib files’ no-jQuery design.

Checklist before you pick a template
- The job the form does: sign-up, booking, application, survey, or checkout.
- The number of steps and whether the progress display matches how your users think about the task.
- Field types, including native date or select controls, and how each one validates in the browser.
- Mobile layout at common phone widths, with the on-screen keyboard open.
- Dependencies: whether the download needs jQuery, a plugin, or a specific Bootstrap version.
- Files you must edit, and the names you must map to your backend.
- The licence file and credit requirement included with that specific download.
- The backend or form service that will receive, validate, and store the data.
A template that matches on all eight points is usually a faster start than building a stepper from scratch. The work that remains is the server side, and that is where a launch succeeds or fails.
