Other Linux distributions could make setup friendlier by borrowing three design ideas from MX Linux: bring popular software sources into one clearly labeled installer, guide users through making a Live USB, and help them preserve or reproduce a configured system. These are ideas to adapt—not a claim that MX’s tools work unchanged on other distributions.
1. Put common software sources in one curated installer
MX Package Installer gives users a single interface for installing and removing popular applications. It exposes packages from Debian Stable, MX Test Repo, Debian Backports, and Flatpaks, making software discovery more approachable than expecting newcomers to know which source or package-management tool to look for. MX’s FAQ points users to Synaptic for a wider range of Debian package actions. MX Linux’s Package Installer documentation describes the app and its sources.

The useful idea for other distros is not simply to add a one-click button. The interface should identify where software comes from and make source choices visible. Different repositories and package formats can have different compatibility and dependency tradeoffs, and the listed sources are not necessarily enabled in every installation. A curated front end should make those distinctions easier to understand, not hide them.
2. Make Live USB creation a guided task
MX Live USB Maker can create live media from an ISO, another Live USB, a live CD or DVD, or a running live system. Its help guides users through choosing the USB device and ISO, while also documenting a dry-run mode and an option to create a fully encrypted Live USB. That combination—an obvious basic route with advanced controls available when needed—is a strong setup pattern for other distributions to borrow. See MX Live USB Maker help for the documented workflow and options.

- MX Linux is a cooperative venture between the antiX and MX Linux communities. It is a family of operating systems that are designed to combine elegant and efficient desktops with high stability and solid performance. MX’s graphical tools provide an easy way to do a wide variety of tasks, while the Live USB and snapshot tools inherited from antiX add impressive portability and remastering capabilities.
- Xfce is our flagship. It is a midweight desktop environment that aims to be fast and low-resource, while still being attractive and user-friendly. It augments the native Xfce configuration with unique features.
- KDE is well known for its advanced desktop “Plasma” and a wide variety of powerful applications.
- Fluxbox unites the speed, low resource use and elegance of Fluxbox with the toolset from MX Linux. The result is a lightweight and fully functional system that has many unique features.
- MX Linux 25 – Latest Stable Release. Preloaded with MX Linux 25, one of the most popular and lightweight Linux distributions, built on a stable Debian base for speed, reliability, and long-term support.
A USB flash drive is the practical media for this workflow; the storage needed depends on the ISO and whether persistence is part of the plan. The broader design lesson is to make the target device and image explicit, while giving users a way to check or customize the operation instead of requiring them to piece together a command sequence.
3. Let users preserve, reproduce, and understand a working system
Snapshotting a configured installation
MX Snapshot creates a functional ISO from a running MX Linux or antiX system. Its project documentation distinguishes two purposes: retaining accounts for backup or reinstallation, and resetting accounts when preparing an ISO intended for distribution. The resulting image can be written to USB with MX Live USB Maker or its command-line counterpart. This gives users a way to turn a configured system into reusable recovery or installation media.

- 2. Try or install:Before installing on your PC, you can try them one by one without touching your hard disks.
- 3. Easy to use: These distros are easy to use and built with beginners in mind. Most of them Come with a wide range of pre-bundled software that includes office productivity suite, Web browser, instant messaging, image editing, multimedia, and email. Ensure transition to Linux World without regrets for Windows users.
- 4. Support: Printed user guide on how to boot up and try or install Linux; please contact us for help if you have an issue. Please press "Enter" a couple of times if you see a black screen after selecting a Linux.
- 5. Compatibility: Except for MACs,Chromebooks and ARM-based devices, works with any brand's laptop and desktop PC, legacy BIOS or UEFI booting, Requires enabling USB boot in BIOS/UEFI configuration and disabling Secure Boot is necessary for UEFI boot mode. Packing: The bootable USB drive comes in a colored PET/CPP zipper bag with instructions on how to get started. The box pictured is not included.
This capability is not a generic Linux utility that can be dropped into any distribution: the project says MX Snapshot depends on MX/antiX infrastructure and would need considerable modification to work elsewhere. Other distros should borrow the outcome and workflow, while building on their own system architecture. Details are in the MX Snapshot project documentation.
Persistence is not the same as a snapshot
Persistence keeps changes made during a live session, but what it retains depends on its type. MX Remaster Control Center help explains that home persistence stores changes under /home; it does not retain system changes such as installed packages. System persistence is for changes outside the home directory. The help also describes rolling changes into a new linuxfs file during remastering and notes that automatic persistence configuration does not currently work in the described workflow.

- ✅Supported UEFI and Legacy, Compatibility any PC/Laptop, Any boot issue only needs to disable "Secure Boot"
These distinctions matter when choosing recovery media: saving personal files is different from keeping system-wide changes, and both differ from creating a new image of a configured installation. MX controls and workflows can change between releases, so use the instructions matching your installed version before following a procedure. Consult the MX Remaster Control Center help for the documented persistence and remastering behavior.

What other distributions can take from MX Linux
- For software: curate common choices in one interface and label their sources.
- For installation media: make the ordinary Live USB path clear, with useful options such as dry run and encryption accessible without making them prerequisites.
- For recovery: distinguish personal-data persistence, system-change persistence, and a reusable image of a configured installation.
- For implementation: adapt the design to each distribution’s own package and system infrastructure rather than assuming MX’s utilities are portable.
