Colorlib’s September 28, 2026 roundup lists 28 free Bootstrap file-upload examples: 22 CodePen demos and six newer Colorlib snippets. They cover simple file pickers, drag-and-drop zones, image previews, multi-file lists, and form attachments. They are front-end interfaces—not upload services—so files are not saved until you connect an example to a server or storage provider.
What the 28 examples include
Colorlib groups the entries into 22 CodePen demos and six Colorlib snippets introduced in its 2026 update. The count describes the roundup, not a tested ranking of quality or performance. The CodePen authors’ implementations and dependencies vary, so check each demo’s settings and license before adapting it.

- Job Application Form V01 — a CV and cover-letter form; the described CV field accepts PDF, DOC, or DOCX files up to 5 MB.
- Appointment Form V09 — a veterinary or pet-grooming form; its described vaccination-record field accepts PDF, JPG, or PNG files up to 5 MB.
- Survey Form V04 — a feedback form with an optional screenshot checked for type and size and shown as a thumbnail.
- Toast V10 — a multi-file status toast with per-file progress and cancel controls. Upload progress is simulated.
Colorlib describes the six newer snippets as plain HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript with no dependencies, usable alone or inside Bootstrap 4, 5, or 6 projects. That is the publisher’s compatibility description, not a claim that Bootstrap itself includes these components. Bootstrap’s official 5.3 examples page offers framework examples and components, but the six snippets are separate additions.

How to choose an example
Start with the task the control needs to support, then check the implementation and reuse conditions. Colorlib’s list is a set of ideas and examples, not an independently tested comparison.
#1 Best Overall
| Need | Look for | Check before reuse |
|---|---|---|
| One straightforward selection | A native or custom picker, such as Custom File Upload or Custom Choose File | Whether the control accepts one file or multiple files, and which types are allowed |
| Drag-and-drop selection | A drop zone that also provides a visible browse option | That the picker remains usable with a keyboard and without dragging |
| Image selection | A preview with a clear remove or replace action, such as Image Upload Button | Accepted image types, size rules, and whether the preview is only local to the browser |
| Applications or contact forms | An upload field integrated with the surrounding form, such as Job Application Form V01 or Getform.io HTML Form | Allowed formats and size limits, plus where the submitted file will be sent |
| Several files or longer workflows | A per-file list with status, removal, and—where useful—cancel or retry controls | Whether progress reflects a real transfer or is simulated, and how failures are handled |
Check dependencies and compatibility
The six Colorlib snippets are described as dependency-free vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Do not assume the same for the 22 CodePen examples: inspect each individual pen for framework, library, or version requirements before copying it into a project.
If a ready-made plugin is a better fit than adapting a visual example, Kartik V.’s separate bootstrap-fileinput repository documents previews, multiple selection, resumable chunk uploads, AJAX uploads, drag-and-drop, progress, and file add/delete management. Its documentation says Bootstrap 5 support began with plugin version 5.2.0 and lists Bootstrap 3, 4, or 5 and jQuery among its prerequisites. It is a separate software option, not one of Colorlib’s 28 entries.

Review reuse terms
Colorlib says its six snippets are available under CC BY 3.0 for personal and commercial use when the credit link is retained. For each CodePen demo, check the individual author’s license; the roundup does not establish a single license covering all 22.

Do these examples upload and save files?
No—not by themselves. Colorlib says: “All of these are front-end components. They handle choosing, checking and showing files; you connect them to your own server or storage to save anything.” A browser interface can let someone choose a file, check it client-side, display a preview, or show status. A genuine upload requires a configured destination and code that sends the file, for example through a multipart form post or fetch() with FormData.
Rank #3
Progress Bar V08 and Toast V10 simulate progress when files are selected; their visual progress is not evidence that data reached a server. Likewise, a form or interface whose name mentions a service does not establish that a working storage connection is configured in the example.

Client-side type, size, and duplicate checks help users catch mistakes, but they can be bypassed. A UI snippet does not make its destination safe. OWASP’s File Upload Cheat Sheet recommends controls including accepted-type and size limits, content validation, safe storage, and access control.
- Enforce permitted file types and maximum sizes on the server, not only in browser-side checks.
- Validate file content rather than trusting a filename or browser-supplied content type.
- Rename files when storing them, and keep uploads outside directories where uploaded scripts could execute.
- Restrict access to uploaded files according to the sensitivity of the application.
These are backend responsibilities; styling a picker or adding a preview does not replace them.
