Arrange apps and move between tasks
1. Open Snap layouts with a shortcut
Press Windows+Z to show the available Snap layouts. Choose a position for the active window, then select other open apps when Snap Assist offers to fill the remaining spaces. The layouts shown can depend on your screen size. Microsoft Support explains Snap layouts and Snap Assist.

2. Choose a layout from the maximize button
Hover over a window’s maximize button to display Snap layouts, then choose the arrangement that suits the task. This is useful when you prefer selecting a layout visually rather than remembering a shortcut.
3. Snap a window with the keyboard
With a window active, press Windows+Left arrow or Windows+Right arrow to snap it to a side. Windows+Up or Windows+Down can move it into a corner or change its snapped position. Exact behavior depends on the current window arrangement.

4. Snap by dragging to an edge
Drag a window to a screen edge or corner to place it in a snapped position. Once it is placed, use Snap Assist to choose another open window for the space left available.
5. Resize neighboring snapped windows
When two snapped windows share the screen, drag the divider between them to give one more room. This lets you keep a reference or chat visible while making the main work area larger.
6. Restore a Snap group
After arranging apps together, use the Snap group entry available from the taskbar, Task View or Alt+Tab to return to that collection. It can save time when you regularly switch away from a particular set of apps.

7. Adjust Snap behavior
Open Settings > System > Multitasking to review Windows’ Snap controls. The settings let you change aspects of how snapping and its suggestions behave.
8. Switch apps with Alt+Tab
Hold Alt and press Tab to cycle through open apps; release Alt to switch to the selected one. It is a quick way to move between active applications without opening an overview.
9. Open Task View for an overview
Use Windows+Tab to open Task View and see open windows alongside your desktops. Choose a window to return to it or manage your desktop spaces from the overview.

10. Separate work contexts with virtual desktops
Create different desktops for distinct activities, such as focused work and personal tasks, and switch between them from Task View. Virtual desktops separate contexts; they do not replace Snap, which arranges windows within a desktop.
Choose the tool that matches the task:

Reduce interruptions with Focus
11. Start a Focus session
Start a session from the clock or notification area, from Settings > System > Focus, or from the Clock app. Pick a duration that fits the task rather than assuming one session length works for everyone. Microsoft Support describes Focus sessions.
12. Silence notifications during a session
Configure the session to use Do not disturb if you want notifications muted while you focus. Focus controls notification behavior; it should not be treated as a guarantee that every possible distraction will stop.

13. Hide taskbar badges and flashing
In Focus settings, choose whether to hide taskbar badges and flashing indicators during a session. This can make the taskbar less attention-grabbing without requiring you to close the apps you are using.
14. Keep or hide the session timer
Choose whether the timer appears during a Focus session. A visible timer can help you keep track of a work block; hide it if you would rather not see a countdown.

If Do not disturb was already enabled before a Focus session began, Microsoft says it remains enabled after the session ends. Check its status afterward if you expect notifications to resume.

Back up selected files and settings
16. Choose user folders for OneDrive backup
Windows Backup can back up selected Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Videos and Music folders to OneDrive. Review which folders are enabled rather than assuming all of them are included. This cloud-backed folder protection is not the same as a complete offline backup. Microsoft Support explains Windows Backup and restore.
17. Review which settings can be saved
Windows Backup offers selected preferences and settings, including personalization, installed apps, accessibility, accounts, Wi-Fi information and some device settings. The available items can depend on the account and organization configuration. Confirm what is actually enabled on your PC.
18. Check account and storage conditions
Personalization backup requires signing in to OneDrive and having available storage. Before relying on the backup, check that the intended Microsoft account is connected and that it has room for the selected content.

The presence of installed apps among settings Windows can save does not mean every app’s files, data or state will be backed up and restored. Check the recovery needs of important apps separately, and keep another backup method if you need an independent offline copy.
Use voice and accessibility controls
20. Try Voice Access
Voice Access lets you interact with visible controls by saying their names or using numbered overlays. Microsoft documents it for Windows 11 version 22H2 and later. Check the current Voice Access options in Settings for availability on your device and in your language; the feature can be useful for accessibility and hands-free interaction. Microsoft Support’s Voice Access guide covers the feature, and its Windows 11 accessibility guide also points to tools such as touch gestures, the on-screen keyboard, captions, screen readers and input-device settings.
