1Cover Comprehensive offers broad travel-insurance benefits for eligible Australian residents, including unlimited overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses. Its cancellation limit is chosen by the buyer, and the benefit-table caps are subject to policy conditions, exclusions, excesses and sub-limits. The current Australian Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) is effective 4 March 2026; the version that applies depends on the issue date on your Certificate of Insurance.
What is 1Cover Comprehensive?
1Cover Comprehensive is an Australian travel-insurance plan arranged by 1Cover Pty Ltd, an authorised representative of Coffre-Fort Pty Ltd. Coffre-Fort acts as underwriting agent under binding authority. The PDS names HDI Global Specialty SE, acting through its Australian branch, as insurer. Read the 4 March 2026 PDS.

The plan is intended for eligible Australian residents whose journey has not started. It must be purchased before leaving the departure point, and your trip dates and destinations need to match your Certificate of Insurance. 1Cover’s policy details page directs customers to the PDS version that applies to their certificate’s issue date, so check that document rather than relying on a later or earlier wording.
What does the plan cover?
The PDS benefit table describes these Comprehensive benefits, subject to the terms and limits in each policy section:

| Personal liability | Up to $5,000,000 per policy; the table limit is the total payable for all claims under the policy |
| Luggage and personal effects | Up to $15,000 in 1Cover’s plan comparison summary |
Limits are ceilings, not promises of payment. Section rules, item sub-limits, exclusions and excesses affect what may be payable. The PDS says benefit limits and sub-limits are generally reinstated at the end of each journey, with personal liability treated differently: its stated limit is the total payable for all claims under the policy. Not all benefits apply to domestic travel in Australia. The certificate records the selected premium, travel dates, destinations, excesses, add-ons and any variations to standard terms. Check the benefit wording and conditions in the PDS.
Cancellation cover is not a fixed amount
The buyer selects the cancellation limit. Set it with your prepaid, non-refundable costs in mind, and check which events qualify under the policy rather than assuming every reason for cancelling is covered. The PDS wording controls whether a particular expense or event is eligible.

Who can buy it, and what can restrict cover?
Eligibility depends on residence, trip timing and length, age-plan conditions, and other requirements. Australian citizens and permanent residents need a valid Australian Medicare card; temporary residents have separate visa and health-cover criteria. The plan is available to travellers of all ages, but travellers aged 80 or over have a maximum journey duration of 90 days. Confirm your circumstances against the applicable PDS before purchasing.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Destinations: The countries or regions on your certificate matter. For a cruise, the PDS says to declare every country visited by the ship.
- Travel warnings: 1Cover’s comparison page says no policy cover is available for travel to countries for which the Australian Government has issued a “do not travel” warning. Check current warnings and policy wording when buying.
- Pre-existing medical conditions: Review the insurer’s assessment and acceptance terms for your condition; do not assume it is covered automatically.
- Activities and vehicles: Cruises, winter sports and some rental-car situations may require an optional pack. Check the relevant terms and confirm the pack appears on your certificate.
- Excess: Compare the selected excess with the premium. The PDS says a double excess applies to some claims arising directly from winter sports.
For hospitalisation, or when outpatient treatment is expected to exceed $1,000, the PDS says to contact emergency assistance as soon as practicable and obtain prior approval for expenses. Evacuation or repatriation also requires prior approval from the assistance service. Read the relevant PDS section for the exact requirements: 2026 policy wording.

How to assess whether it fits your trip
The plan’s breadth and unlimited overseas emergency medical benefit are notable, but the headline table alone cannot establish whether it suits a particular itinerary. Compare the terms that determine how the cover works in practice:
- Medical and evacuation definitions, approval requirements and sub-limits.
- Cancellation limit, covered events and the amount of prepaid costs at risk.
- Baggage cap and individual-item limits.
- Excess, premium after adjusting it, and the cost and terms of any add-ons.
- Age, journey-duration and destination eligibility.
- Whether the cruise, winter-sport, bicycle or rental-vehicle cover you need is included or must be added.
- Exclusions, evidence requirements and claim-notification steps.
1Cover itself says the comparison benefits are a summary and directs buyers to read the PDS for full terms, conditions, limits, excesses and exclusions, and to consider the Target Market Determination. Its stated guidance is: “You should read the PDS before buying the policy because you are responsible for ensuring that the insurance cover you select is suitable for your needs.” See 1Cover’s plan comparison.

1Cover’s comparison page displayed a 4.2 rating from 5,118 reviews when checked in 2026, and labels the review link “Product Review.” This is a changing, provider-page figure, not an independently audited measure of claim outcomes.
