A mobile office is less about carrying every possible accessory than matching a few useful tools to your laptop, work habits, and destination. Start with a laptop, a way to keep it protected and charged, and the connectivity you actually need. Add a portable screen, travel router, or desk accessories only when they solve a real problem—and account for the extra weight.
Build a kit around the work you do
The 14 categories below are options, not a checklist every traveler needs to complete. A person who answers email from cafés may need only a laptop, charger, and headset. Someone who spends hours in temporary workspaces may value a mouse, keyboard, stand, or second screen. For each item, weigh its benefit against its size, weight, compatibility, and the chance you will use it.

1. Laptop
Your laptop is the office’s core. Choose one that runs the software and workloads your job requires; a smaller machine may be easier to carry, while demanding work may call for more processing power or a larger screen.
2. Padded laptop backpack
Check the sleeve’s stated laptop size and the bag’s overall layout before buying. Travelpro’s listing describes a padded sleeve for laptops up to 16 inches, while ASUS’s Archer ErgoAir describes space for an 18-inch laptop and a separate tablet or portable-monitor compartment. These are manufacturer-listed fit details, not a guarantee that every device with the same screen measurement will fit: compare the laptop’s physical dimensions with the bag’s internal dimensions. 3. Compact USB-C wall charger
A compact GaN charger can reduce the space a wall adapter takes up. Lenovo’s mobile-work bundle lists a 65 W USB-C GaN charger; treat that as one example, not a universal laptop requirement. Check the laptop’s required charging wattage and protocol, and make sure the charger’s port supports them. Lenovo charger listing
4. Laptop-capable power bank
For work away from outlets, compare a power bank’s USB-C output wattage and charging protocol with your laptop’s needs, as well as its ports, capacity in watt-hours, dimensions, and weight. Omnicharge lists its Omni Mobile 25600 at 25,600 mAh / 92 Wh, with up to 60 W USB-C output and up to 72 W DC output. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish compatibility with every laptop. Airline rules also depend on the carrier and route, so check current requirements before flying rather than assuming a particular capacity is universally permitted. 5. USB-C cables
Pack cables that suit the charging and data requirements of the devices you carry. USB-C connectors alone do not guarantee that a cable supports the power level, video signal, or data transfer you need. Check the device and cable specifications, and bring only the lengths and types your setup uses.

A second screen can make a temporary workspace more comfortable for work that benefits from keeping documents, calls, or reference material visible at once. It also adds bulk and weight, so consider it optional. Compare physical dimensions, resolution, weight, connection options, stand, and power source—not just screen size.

For example, ViewSonic lists the VG1656N at 16 inches, 1920 × 1200, and about 3 pounds. Its built-in 4,000 mAh battery is rated for up to three hours, with actual runtime varying by use. ASUS lists the ZenScreen Go MB16AWP with a 7,800 mAh battery and up to 3.5 hours under the wireless-mode and volume conditions specified on its product page. The figures describe different products and conditions, not a direct battery-life comparison. Check whether your laptop supports video over USB-C if you want a one-cable wired setup; HDMI, wireless casting, and operating-system compatibility vary by display. 7. Travel router
A travel router can route or share an existing connection; it does not provide internet service or replace a subscription. It may be useful when a workspace offers Ethernet or usable Wi-Fi and you want to connect your devices through your own router. Check the router’s supported modes, power input, and any VPN setup requirements. D-Link’s DBR-330 product details describe Ethernet and Wi-Fi WAN modes and VPN functionality, but its product listing could not be verified as a live page. 8. USB-C travel dock or hub
A dock or hub can reduce the number of adapters needed to connect peripherals or displays. Lenovo’s mobile-work bundle includes a dual-display travel dock. Before choosing one, check that your laptop supports the required USB-C functions and that the dock’s display outputs match your monitor setup. 9. Headset or earbuds
A headset can make calls easier in shared or noisy spaces. Lenovo’s work bundle includes a wireless VoIP headset, but choose based on comfort, microphone quality, connection type, and the calls you take. 10. Webcam
An external webcam is worth considering when the laptop camera does not meet your needs or your setup makes its position awkward. 11. Compact keyboard
A separate keyboard can be useful if you regularly work for long stretches at temporary desks and prefer not to type on the laptop itself. 12. Compact mouse
A mouse can be more convenient than a trackpad for some tasks, but comfort and portability vary. 13. Tech organizer pouch
A pouch can keep small accessories together, but check its dimensions against the cables and adapters you actually carry. UGREEN India lists organizer model 50903 (LP152) at 20.3 × 12.9 × 7.2 cm and approximately 200 g. The listing says pictured accessories are not included and that the case is neither waterproof nor crush-proof. 14. Phone or laptop stand
A compact stand may make it easier to position a phone for reference or raise a laptop on a temporary desk, but it is optional. Check its folded size, stability, and compatibility with your device and workspace. A stand by itself does not establish a health or posture benefit.

Choose accessories by the problem they solve
- Need more screen space? Compare a portable monitor’s weight and connection compatibility with the value of having another display. If you rarely multitask, skip it.
- Need power away from outlets? Check that a power bank can deliver the wattage and protocol your laptop accepts, then check current airline rules for your route.
- Need to connect several devices? Confirm your laptop supports the hub or dock’s required ports and display features.
- Need to work on unfamiliar networks? A travel router can work with an existing Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection, but it cannot supply internet access on its own.
- Need to reduce setup friction? A headset, mouse, keyboard, or organizer may help if it fits your actual routine and bag.
Check fit, power, and connections before you leave
- Measure the core devices. Compare your laptop’s physical dimensions with the backpack’s sleeve, and check any portable display against its compartment. Screen size alone does not establish fit.
- Confirm the charging chain. Match the wall charger and power bank’s output to the laptop’s charging requirements. Verify that each cable supports the power or data function you intend to use.
- Test display and dock compatibility. Check the laptop’s port capabilities, the display’s inputs, and the dock’s supported outputs. A connector’s shape does not guarantee video support.
- Plan around the connection at your destination. Determine whether you will have Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or neither. A travel router can route an available connection, but cannot replace internet service.
- Pack for the work session, not every possibility. Add accessories you expect to use, then account for their combined weight and volume alongside daily essentials.
