Stack Overflow’s 2026 survey offers the clearest recent snapshot of developer responses; the HTTP Archive’s 2025 Web Almanac, published in 2026, measures websites using data collected mainly in July 2025. These 12 figures keep those populations separate.
What developers report using
Stack Overflow’s 2026 Developer Survey measures responses from people who answered its survey questions. Its figures describe those respondents—not the share of all developers, websites, or software projects using a technology.

| Statistic | What it measures | Population and period |
|---|---|---|
| 62.7% | Respondents said their role involved building, maintaining, or learning about web technologies. | 10,176 respondents to this question; Stack Overflow, 2026. |
| 46.4% | Reported using Node.js for extensive development work. | 10,281 respondents to the web frameworks and technologies question; usage over the past year; Stack Overflow, 2026. |
| 41.5% | Reported using React for extensive development work. | 10,281 respondents to the web frameworks and technologies question; usage over the past year; Stack Overflow, 2026. |
| 20.6% | Reported using Next.js for extensive development work. | 10,281 respondents to the web frameworks and technologies question; usage over the past year; Stack Overflow, 2026. |
Node.js, React, and Next.js are responses to the same survey question and can be compared within that group. They are not mutually exclusive choices, so their percentages should not be added together.
Languages named in the survey
In Stack Overflow’s 2026 programming-language question, respondents reported:
#1 Best Overall
- JavaScript: 62.0%
- HTML/CSS: 58.2%
- TypeScript: 43.8%
These are shares of respondents answering that question. They indicate reported developer practice, not the proportion of websites built with each language. The cited survey overview does not state the respondent count alongside these three percentages.
How many websites meet Core Web Vitals?
The HTTP Archive’s 2025 Web Almanac reports that 48% of mobile websites and 56% of desktop websites achieved good overall Core Web Vitals in its 2025 measurements. The report was published on January 15, 2026, and updated on May 5, 2026; its metrics are generally based on July 2025 data.

| Device category | Websites with good overall Core Web Vitals | Measurement period |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile | 48% | HTTP Archive, 2025 Web Almanac; mainly July 2025 data. |
| Desktop | 56% | HTTP Archive, 2025 Web Almanac; mainly July 2025 data. |
The desktop result is 8 percentage points higher than the mobile result. This is a comparison of the two device categories in the Web Almanac’s measurements, not proof that any particular site will perform better on desktop.

The Web Almanac describes Core Web Vitals as Google’s main metrics for understanding how a webpage feels to real users. For the 2025 measurements, the “good” thresholds were:
Rank #3
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): 2.5 seconds or less, measuring loading.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): 200 milliseconds or less, measuring responsiveness.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): a score of 0.1 or less, measuring visual stability.
The overall pass rates above concern the combined Core Web Vitals assessment, not a separate pass rate for each individual metric. The Performance chapter combines HTTP Archive measurements with real-user data from Chrome UX Report; it is not simply a lab-test score. The chapter also notes that reporting for LCP and INP expanded beyond Chrome over the prior year.
How large is the Web Almanac dataset?
The HTTP Archive says its 2025 Web Almanac analyzed 16.2 million websites and processed 244 terabytes of data. These figures describe the report’s dataset, which is generally based on July 2025 observations, unless a chapter states otherwise. They provide scale and context; they do not mean every website on the internet was included.

What the accessibility figure does—and does not—show
The Web Almanac’s 2025 Accessibility chapter reports that roughly 1.6% of desktop sites included captions in the chapter’s analysis. This is a narrow indicator of caption presence, not a score for overall accessibility. It does not establish how many sites meet accessibility standards or whether captions are accurate, complete, or available for all relevant media.
How to read web development statistics
Keep the population and unit attached to every percentage
A developer survey counts people who answered a question. A website measurement counts sites or pages under a defined measurement method. Those units are different: a survey share cannot be used as a market-share estimate for websites.
Best Value
Check the observation period, not only the publication year
The Stack Overflow results are from its 2026 survey. The Web Almanac was published in 2026, but its measurements are generally from July 2025. A report’s publication date and the date its underlying activity was observed are not interchangeable.
Compare performance results only on like terms
For a meaningful Core Web Vitals comparison, identify the device category, the metric or overall assessment, the applicable threshold, and the measurement year. Field data reflects user experiences under observed conditions; a lab test uses controlled conditions and is not directly interchangeable with the Web Almanac’s combined measurement approach.
Do not merge survey rankings with website technology counts
Stack Overflow’s survey helps show which technologies respondents say they used. W3Techs, by contrast, describes its research as measuring technology usage on websites, not individual pages. Those sources answer different questions and should not be combined into one technology ranking.
