Disney+ failing on a PC usually comes down to one of four things: an unsupported browser or operating system, blocked JavaScript or cookies, damaged browser data, or an unstable network. Firefox has one additional requirement: its DRM components must be enabled for protected video playback.
Work through these fixes in order. The early steps are quick and low-risk; the later ones help identify whether the problem is Disney+, the computer, the browser, or the internet connection.

1. Check that your PC and browser are supported
Disney+ currently supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera on Windows 10 or newer. On Mac, it supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari on macOS 11 or newer.
Recommended Free Tools
Safari is listed by Disney for Mac, not Windows. You also do not have to use Chrome: the current Disney requirements list all four supported Windows browsers.

Check this first if Disney+ shows a compatibility warning, refuses to load, or works on another device but not your computer. An old browser, an outdated operating system, or a non-supported browser can prevent login and video playback.
There is an important distinction with Windows 10. Disney still lists Windows 10 as supported, but Microsoft ended normal Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Keeping the system supported by Disney does not mean it continues to receive standard Microsoft security updates.
2. Update the browser
Disney identifies an unsupported or outdated browser as the most likely browser-side cause of problems. Update it before changing settings or deleting data.
The Tool Desk

☰→ Help → About Firefox. Firefox checks for updates in the About window. - Opera: open the Opera menu → Update & Recovery → Check for update.
After updating, close every browser window and open a new one. Retest Disney+ rather than only refreshing the existing tab.
3. Install available Windows or macOS updates
Disney’s troubleshooting guidance also points to outdated system software. A browser can be current while the underlying operating system is missing required updates or contains a damaged media component.
- Windows: open Start → Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Mac: open the Apple menu → System Settings → General → Software Update.
Install pending updates, restart the computer, and try Disney+ again. If the computer cannot update to a supported version, testing Disney+ on a newer PC is a useful way to confirm that compatibility is the issue.
4. Make sure JavaScript is enabled
Disney+ needs JavaScript for its website, account controls, and browser player. A privacy extension, hardened browser profile, or manually changed setting can block it.

Chrome
Open ⋮ → Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → JavaScript. Select Sites can use JavaScript.
Edge
Open … → Settings → Cookies and site permissions → JavaScript. Turn on Allowed (recommended).
Firefox
Firefox has no normal JavaScript switch in its Settings panel because JavaScript is enabled by default. If Disney+ fails only in Firefox, temporarily disable script-blocking extensions and test again. Advanced users should also check whether a hardened profile or custom preference has disabled JavaScript.
5. Allow cookies for Disney+
Cookies store login and session information and help Disney+ authorize playback. Blocking third-party or site cookies can result in repeated login prompts, a blank player, or a video that never starts.
- Chrome: go to
⋮→ Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies. Allow cookies, or add Disney+ as an allowed site. - Edge: go to
…→ Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Cookies. Reduce the blocking level or add Disney+ to the allowed list. - Firefox: go to
☰→ Settings → Privacy & Security. Under Browser Privacy, adjust Enhanced Tracking Protection or add Disney+ as an exception.
If cookies are allowed globally but Disney+ still cannot keep you signed in, clear only the Disney+ site data using the next method.
6. Clear Disney+ cookies and site data
Deleting Disney+’s own site data is more targeted than wiping every browsing session. It can remove stale login tokens or corrupted local data that stops the player from loading.
- Open Disney+ in the browser.
- Click the site controls icon to the left of the address bar. Depending on the browser, it appears as a lock, tune controls, or similar icon.
- Open the cookies or site-data controls and delete the Disney+ entries.
- Close the Disney+ tab, open it again, and sign in.
In Chrome, the path is Site settings → Delete data. In Edge, click the lock icon → Cookies and site data, then remove the Disney+ entries. In Firefox, click the padlock → Clear cookies and site data → Clear.

This step will sign you out. That is expected; Disney warns that clearing browser data requires you to log in again during the next session.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems7. Clear the browser cache
Cached files can become corrupted after a browser, player, or website update. Clear the cache if Disney+ loads incorrectly, shows an old error, freezes before playback, or behaves differently after an update.
| Browser | Menu path | What to select |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome | ⋮ → Delete browsing data |
Set Time range to All time; select Cached images and files; choose Delete data |
| Edge | … → Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Choose what to clear |
Select Cached images and files; choose Clear now |
| Firefox | ☰ → Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies & Site Data → Clear Data… |
Select Temporary cached files and pages; choose Clear |
Use the site-data method above as well if clearing the general cache does not fix login or authorization errors.
8. Fully close and reopen the browser
Closing a Disney+ tab is not always enough. A browser process can remain active in the background with a stuck player, failed media process, or exhausted memory.
- Close every Disney+ tab.
- Close all browser windows.
- Wait a few seconds, then open the browser again.
- Visit Disney+ directly and test playback.
If you use a Disney+ app installed through Windows, exit the app completely rather than leaving it minimized. Also close demanding programs, screen recorders, VPN clients, and other browser-heavy applications while testing.
9. Restart the computer
A restart clears temporary browser and media processes and reloads system networking and graphics components. It is particularly worthwhile after an operating-system or browser update.
- Windows: Start → Power → Restart.
- macOS: Apple menu → Restart….
Choose Restart rather than only closing the laptop lid or signing out. Once the desktop returns, open a supported browser and try Disney+ before reinstalling anything.

10. Restart the modem and router
Buffering, connection errors, poor video quality, and random freezes can originate with the router, modem, ISP, or local network rather than the PC.
- Close Disney+ on the computer.
- Unplug the modem and router from power. If you have one combined unit, unplug that device.
- Wait about 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the modem first and wait until its internet connection is established.
- Reconnect the router if it is separate and wait for Wi-Fi to return.
- Reload Disney+ and test the same video.
Do not treat a successful ordinary web page load as proof that the connection is stable enough for streaming. Short interruptions can leave a video player frozen even though other sites still open.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
11. Test the connection and remove instability
Disney lists slow or unstable internet, a computer being too far from the Wi-Fi router, and an ISP outage or network problem among the possible causes of streaming trouble.
Use these comparisons to identify the fault domain:
- Connect the PC to the router with an Ethernet cable, if possible.
- Move the computer closer to the Wi-Fi router and test again.
- Pause downloads, cloud backups, game updates, and other streams on the network.
- Try Disney+ on another device using the same connection.
- Connect the computer temporarily to a different network, such as a phone hotspot, if your data plan allows it.
If Disney+ works on another network, the original Wi-Fi, router, or ISP connection is the likely problem. If it fails only in one browser, focus on browser settings, extensions, cookies, cache, and DRM rather than repeatedly restarting the router.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.12. Repair Firefox DRM and Widevine playback
Firefox uses Google’s Widevine Content Decryption Module to play DRM-protected video. If Disney+ loads but the video will not start in Firefox, check both DRM settings and the Widevine plugin.
Enable DRM content
- Open
☰→ Settings → General. - Scroll to Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content.
- Check Play DRM-controlled content.
Enable Widevine
- Open
☰→ Add-ons and themes. - Select Plugins.
- Find Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.
- Click its
…menu and choose Always Activate.
Do not disable Widevine as a fix. Mozilla states that disabling it can stop DRM websites from playing. If Widevine is already enabled but playback still fails, uncheck Play DRM-controlled content, restart or reload Firefox, then enable the setting again so Firefox reloads the DRM components.

On Linux, Widevine no longer supports 32-bit systems; support ended on May 31, 2021, and only 64-bit Linux is supported by Widevine. Disney’s current computer requirements page lists Windows and Mac requirements rather than Linux requirements, so Linux playback may not receive the same level of official support.
Match the symptom to the likely fix
| Symptom | Start with |
|---|---|
| Disney+ will not load at all | Supported browser, browser update, JavaScript, cookies, and cache |
| You are repeatedly asked to sign in | Allow cookies, then clear Disney+ site data and sign in again |
| The site loads but the video stays black | Disable blocking extensions; Firefox users should check DRM and Widevine |
| Video constantly buffers | Restart the router, test Ethernet or another network, and stop competing downloads |
| Playback fails only in Firefox | Check DRM Content and set Widevine to Always Activate |
| Playback fails in every browser and on other devices | Check the router, ISP connection, and Disney+ service status |
When none of these fixes works
Try a second supported browser with its extensions disabled. This separates a Disney+ account or network problem from a browser-profile problem. If Disney+ fails across multiple browsers, devices, and networks, collect the exact error code, the affected title, your operating system, and browser version before contacting Disney+ Support. That information is more useful than simply reporting that the site is “not working.”
FAQ
Why is Disney+ not working on my PC but working on my phone?
The PC may have an outdated browser, blocked JavaScript or cookies, damaged site data, or a DRM problem. Test Disney+ in another supported browser, then check cookies, cache, and Firefox Widevine if applicable.
Does Disney+ require Chrome on Windows?
No. Disney currently lists the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera versions for Windows 10 or newer. Chrome is one supported option, not the only one.
Will clearing the Disney+ cache log me out?
Yes. Disney warns that clearing browser cache or site data can require you to sign in again. Have your Disney+ login details available before deleting it.
Why does Disney+ show a black screen in Firefox?
Firefox may have DRM playback disabled, or its Widevine Content Decryption Module may not be active. Enable Play DRM-controlled content and set Widevine to Always Activate under Add-ons and themes → Plugins.
Can slow Wi-Fi stop Disney+ from working completely?
Yes. An unstable connection can cause buffering, freezing, connection errors, or a player that never starts. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet or another network to determine whether the connection is responsible.
