Safari 27’s biggest changes are smarter ways to organize and revisit browsing, plus new tools that use Apple Intelligence. The 12 items below are an editorial grouping of consumer features and WebKit updates—not an official Apple feature count. Availability varies by device and operating system, and some details have only been reported by secondary sources.

Which Safari 27 features matter most to everyday browsing?

Safari 27 is associated with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, which is named Golden Gate. The headline changes help organize tabs, resume browsing, monitor pages, and create extensions. Several of those features rely on Apple Intelligence; that does not mean every Safari 27 feature does.

1. Automatically organize tabs by topic

Safari can use Apple Intelligence to sort open tabs into relevant topics. On iPhone, open Tab View, tap the three-line icon at the upper right, and enable Automatically Create Topics. That menu also provides access to topic groups and lets you filter tabs to a selected topic. The setting is opt-in; do not assume topic organization is enabled by default. MacRumors, Cult of Mac, and Macworld have reported the feature.

2. Resume Browsing on the Start Page

The Start Page can surface topics you recently closed or have open on other devices, giving you a way back into a browsing task without manually finding each page. Reports describe this as a continuity feature, but do not establish every sync or account requirement. MacRumors and Macworld cover it.

3. Get alerts when a page changes with Notify Me

Notify Me monitors a web page and can alert you when its content changes—for example, when an item is back in stock or a price drops. It is reported for iOS 27 and macOS 27 and explicitly requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence. The available sources do not establish whether every page can be monitored or how frequently checks occur. See MacRumors and Macworld.

4. Create a Safari extension by describing it

Safari can use Apple Intelligence to generate an extension from a plain-language description. On iPhone, the entry point is in the Safari menu to the left of the address bar; suggested categories reportedly include Boost Productivity, Improve Focus, and Get Creative. On Mac, users describe the extension they want. The reports do not establish the generated extensions’ full capabilities, review process, or compatibility. MacRumors and Macworld describe this feature.

5. Pick what to browse from a new tab

On iOS, opening a new tab presents a Start Page picker for switching among bookmarks, Reading List, and history. This makes those saved or visited pages more directly accessible from the new-tab flow. The reported picker is an iOS change; the sources do not establish that the same interface appears on Mac. Cult of Mac and Macworld report it.

6. A Tabs button replaces More in compact layout

In Safari’s compact iPhone layout, the button on the right changes from More to Tabs. If you rely on muscle memory to open that menu, expect the control to look and behave differently. This change is reported for iOS. Cult of Mac and Macworld cover it.

7. Group bookmarks and Reading List by topic

Topic grouping extends beyond open tabs: Safari can also organize saved pages in Bookmarks and Reading List by topic. The available report does not specify whether this organization is automatic, user-controlled, or identical across devices. MacRumors reports the change.

8. Website audio should not interrupt music or podcasts

A short sound played by a website reportedly no longer interrupts music or a podcast. This behavior is based on a single report from Cult of Mac; the source material does not establish how Safari handles longer audio or every playback scenario.

9. General performance improvements

Safari 27 is also described as faster and more efficient. No benchmark, percentage improvement, or test conditions are provided, so this should be read as a reported general improvement—not a quantified speed claim. MacRumors and Macworld mention performance.

What changes for web developers?

Safari 27’s reported WebKit work includes platform capabilities rather than consumer-facing buttons. These items are useful context for people building websites, but their presence in a session or beta report does not by itself confirm final support details or availability in every Safari release.

10. More customizable form controls

Customizable form controls were among the WebKit topics associated with WWDC26. The available reporting identifies the subject, but does not provide implementation instructions or a final support matrix. A developer should check Apple’s current WebKit documentation before relying on a particular control or behavior.

11. 3D models and immersive web experiences

WWDC26 WebKit sessions also covered 3D models and immersive or spatial web experiences. This points to web-platform work relevant to interactive sites, but the available reports do not establish which devices, APIs, or shipping versions support specific experiences.

12. Cookie, CSS layout, and overflow-alignment updates

Reported developer-facing work includes secure cookies on loopback hosts and new CSS layout and overflow-alignment support. Safari 27.2 beta is reported to add safe and unsafe overflow alignment with normal. These are implementation details, not a guarantee that a production site can use every behavior today; check the browser version and WebKit documentation relevant to the target audience.

Which devices and versions get Safari 27?

Safari 27 beta was reported for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, visionOS 27, and macOS 27 betas, as well as macOS 26 and macOS Sequoia. That means the browser version and the major OS version are not necessarily the same: some Safari and WebKit work can reach older Mac systems. The available reporting does not establish a complete final-release compatibility list for each feature.

macOS 27 is named Golden Gate, succeeding macOS 26 Tahoe. The reports place the public iOS 27 rollout start on September 13, 2026, but that date was not independently confirmed against an Apple release page. Apple Intelligence-dependent features also require compatible hardware; the sources do not identify a complete list of supported models.

What is confirmed about Safari 27.2 beta?

Safari 27.2 beta is reported to be testing fixes and updates involving accessibility, forms, media, WebRTC, WebGPU, networking, and Web Extensions. A beta is a test release, so these notes indicate areas under active development rather than a promise that every change is already in a public stable release.
