The Pendola Pass update adds a new frontier, enemies, weapons, items, an Outpost, skills and progression content. Its free-play promotion ran from October 8 through October 12 and has ended as of October 13. Embark’s announcement also lists updated default gamepad mapping, making a compatible controller a sensible hardware consideration—but not a requirement or a guaranteed performance upgrade.
The official material does not publish a verified list of 12 products, current prices or tested models. The checklist below therefore treats “12 upgrades” as 12 practical categories you can choose from, with compatibility and comfort checks before buying.

What Frozen Trail changes for your setup
Pendola Pass is the headline addition, but the update also changes how you may play: new threats and equipment can increase the value of clear audio, reliable input and a comfortable place to spend longer sessions. The official Steam announcement specifically calls out revised default gamepad mapping. Read the update notes before changing controls, because the mapping is a software change rather than proof that new hardware is needed.

How to choose the right controller
Start with the platform
Write down whether you play on PC, PlayStation, Xbox or another supported platform, then check the controller manufacturer’s compatibility list for that exact device and operating-system version. “Works with PC” can mean USB only, Bluetooth only or a vendor-specific wireless adapter.
Choose wired or wireless deliberately
- Wired: no battery charging and usually the simplest setup, but the cable must reach without pulling on the controller.
- Wireless: cleaner desk and more freedom of movement, but it introduces charging, pairing and possible adapter requirements.
Match the layout and accessibility needs
Compare stick arrangement, button size, rear paddles, remapping software, trigger stops and the ability to use the controller with one hand. Those are usability choices, not evidence that one design improves ARC Raiders performance.

A safe installation order for a winter setup
- Update ARC Raiders and restart the platform so the Frozen Trail control changes load cleanly.
- Open the game’s control settings and review the new default gamepad mapping before changing bindings.
- Connect the controller by its recommended method, then test every stick, trigger, bumper and face button in the platform’s own input panel.
- Set headset input and output, and make a short voice recording to catch muted microphones or incorrect chat devices.
- Position lighting behind or beside the display, keeping glare off the screen.
- Route cables away from chair wheels and walkways; leave enough slack for moving the controller.
- Take a break after the first long session and adjust seat height, screen position and controller reach rather than adding more accessories.
Common problems and fixes
The gamepad connects but buttons are wrong
Check the platform’s controller profile, then restore ARC Raiders’ default mapping and rebind only the controls you need. A third-party remapping layer can override in-game settings, so disable it temporarily while diagnosing.
Wireless input drops out
Charge the controller, move its receiver into a clear line of sight and remove unnecessary Bluetooth pairings. Test with a wired connection; if wired works reliably, the fault is in pairing, radio range or the adapter rather than the game’s mapping.

Voice chat is silent
Confirm the operating system’s selected microphone and output, then check the game’s privacy and chat settings. On consoles, also verify that the controller’s headset jack is enabled and that the headset plug is fully seated.
The room is warm but the hardware is hot
Do not cover console or PC vents with blankets or cushions. Move soft furnishings away from exhausts, clear dust according to the manufacturer’s instructions and shut down if temperatures or fan noise remain abnormal.

What the update does—and does not—establish
Frozen Trail is confirmed as a live October 8, 2026 update with Pendola Pass and expanded gameplay and cosmetic content. The official notes confirm changed default gamepad mapping, but they do not establish that any particular controller model is supported on every platform, that a new controller improves performance, or that any accessory in this checklist has been tested with the game. Verify those details for your own platform before spending money.
