You can use Meta AI from its standalone iPhone or Android app, or from supported Meta services such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook. The exact entry point and available features can vary by app, account, country, and language. These 11 tips show how to get more practical value from text, voice, images, and files while keeping those limits in mind.
1. Open Meta AI where it is available to you
Meta lists its dedicated mobile app and integrations in WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook as ways to access Meta AI. Choose the standalone app if you want a dedicated place to chat; use an existing Meta app when its Meta AI feature is available there. The interface and controls are not necessarily identical across services. Meta AI also offers a web access route.

On iPhone, look for the Meta AI app in the Apple App Store; on Android, look in Google Play. If you do not see the assistant or a particular feature in an app, it may not be available for your account or region rather than something you have overlooked. 2. Ask a specific question instead of a broad one
A focused prompt gives the assistant clearer context about what you need. Meta positions the assistant for questions and everyday help; specificity is a general prompting technique, not a guarantee of a particular answer.

- Instead of “Help me cook,” try “Suggest a quick vegetarian dinner using chickpeas and spinach.”
- Instead of “Explain this,” name the subject and the level of detail you want: “Explain compound interest in plain language, with a small example.”
- For a recommendation, say what you are choosing between and what matters most to you.
3. Add constraints when asking for recommendations
Meta describes recommendations as a use case, and its Android listing mentions local recommendations. Make the answer more relevant by including practical context such as your location, budget, timing, accessibility needs, or preferences. These details are useful prompt-writing guidance, not documented requirements.
For example: “Suggest a quiet place for lunch near downtown Portland, under $20 per person, open after 2 p.m.” Check important details such as opening hours, prices, and availability with the business before making plans.
4. Turn a broad goal into a plan
Meta describes Meta AI as able to help with plans and complex reasoning. To give it a useful starting point, state the outcome you want, the time available, and any constraints. Treat the response as a draft to review, especially when a plan involves deadlines, travel, health, money, or other consequential decisions.

For example: “I have two hours on Saturday to prepare for a move. Make a prioritized checklist for packing a one-bedroom apartment, assuming I have boxes but no hired movers.” If the first answer is too general, follow up with a specific change, such as asking it to group tasks by room or by time.
5. Try voice when speaking is more convenient
Meta’s standalone app supports voice interactions, and its current product page says conversational voice mode supports 13 languages. That is Meta’s stated capability; it does not mean every voice feature is available in every country, language, account, or Meta app. Meta’s announcement of the Meta AI app describes its voice experience and Discover feed.
Use voice for a spoken question or a back-and-forth conversation when typing is inconvenient. If you do not see a voice control, check the current app and feature availability for your region rather than assuming the same controls appear on every phone.

6. Ask about a photo or what you are looking at
Meta describes image-based questions and live answers about what a user is looking at. Where the relevant image or live-vision feature is available, you can provide visual context and ask a concrete question—for example, what an object might be or what details stand out in a picture. Meta does not claim that camera or live-vision access is universal across devices and markets.
For a still image, ask about the specific detail you want help interpreting. Do not treat an AI description as authoritative for safety-critical identification, such as whether a plant is safe to eat or a warning sign can be ignored.
7. Add a document or file as context where supported
Meta says users can interact with files and documents, and its Android listing also mentions sharing photos, video, documents, or files. If file input appears in your version, attach the relevant material and ask for a bounded task such as summarizing a section, identifying key dates, or explaining a passage in plain language.

Meta’s public descriptions do not establish that every file type, size, or account is supported. If an upload is rejected, try a supported image or document format available in the app, or ask about a short excerpt instead. Avoid uploading confidential or sensitive material unless you understand the privacy terms for the mode you are using.
8. Use image creation or editing as a starting point
Meta describes image generation and image edits. When those tools are available, use them to explore a visual idea, then refine it with clear instructions about the subject, style, composition, or changes you want. Treat the result as a creative starting point rather than assuming it will match every detail in your prompt. Availability may vary by country, language, and feature.

Meta lists help in group chats among its use cases, but the controls depend on the host service and the particular chat. If Meta AI is available in a group, use it for a shared question or planning task and make sure the group understands what information is being sent to the assistant. Do not assume every group chat or Meta messaging surface has the same invocation method or capabilities.

10. Know what Meta says Incognito Chats do
Meta describes Incognito Chats as a distinct mode in which messages are processed in a secure environment inaccessible even to Meta. That is Meta’s description of the feature, not a reason to assume every Meta AI conversation is in this mode. 11. Check feature access and usage limits before depending on them
Meta says everyday use is free, while some compute-intensive features may have usage limits and an option to purchase additional usage. Limits and availability can change, and no specific price is established here. If you plan to rely on a feature for a time-sensitive task, check what your app currently allows before you need it. Meta’s iPhone and Android listings describe overlapping capabilities, but Meta does not provide a complete feature-by-feature comparison between the two platforms. Expect differences in availability or interface rather than assuming every feature is identical on both.
