Rather than inventing a top 100, this guide explains how to find and assess plugins for common design workflows—and how to verify that a plugin still fits your file and plan.
What Figma plugins do
Figma defines plugins as “third-party scripts or applications that extend the functionality of Figma’s products.” They can support tasks such as selecting and renaming layers, inserting content, checking color contrast, applying themes, adding maps or logos, and creating visual effects. Figma says its Community includes over 5,000 community-built plugins; that is Figma’s catalog claim, not an independently verified count of active or maintained tools. Plugins are manually run: Figma says they do not perform actions in the background, and only one plugin can run at a time. Availability depends on the Figma product, file, plan, seat, and possibly organization policy. Figma’s product guide describes use in supported files across Figma Design, Dev Mode, FigJam, Figma Slides, and Figma Buzz; check the current guidance for your account and file. Find a plugin for the task you need
Use workflow—not an unsupported universal ranking—to narrow the Community catalog. Figma’s official examples below were published in an older article; they illustrate categories and past examples, but do not establish that any named plugin is currently available or has the same features today. #1 Best Overall
Layer cleanup and bulk edits
Look for tools that select layers by shared properties, rename frames, or reorder items in the layer list. Figma previously cited Similayer for selecting similar layers and Super Tidy for renaming and reordering. Before installing, confirm the plugin handles the layer types and selection scope in your file.
Images and content population
For mockups that need imagery, text, avatars, or icons, search for plugins that insert the specific content you need. Figma previously listed Unsplash for images and Content Reel for text, avatars, and icons. Check what content sources the plugin uses and whether its current terms or in-app purchases limit use.
Rank #2
Accessibility and color review
Contrast Checker and Color Blind were among Figma’s historical examples. A contrast checker can help flag color-pair issues; a color-vision preview can reveal potential distinctions that are hard to perceive. These are screening aids, not proof of conformance to accessibility standards. Review the actual listing and validate important decisions against the applicable accessibility requirements.

Figma’s older article described Themer as a way to swap among published styles, such as light and dark themes. If you need theme switching, confirm that a candidate works with your current variables or styles and the way your team publishes its library. The article also mentioned Microsoft Theme Switcher as an internal Microsoft tool; that reference does not establish it as a publicly installable plugin.
Rank #3
Maps and brand assets
Mapsicle and Brandfetch appeared in Figma’s historical examples for inserting editable maps and finding or inserting logos. For any current map or brand-asset plugin, verify the source and permitted use of its data and assets rather than assuming that insertion grants usage rights.
Prototyping and visual effects
Figma previously described Roto as a tool for manipulating the angle, depth, or perspective of shapes to create 3D effects. If you need a visual effect, check what objects the current plugin supports and whether it produces editable layers or a flattened result.
Rank #4
How to evaluate a plugin before running it
A useful shortlist should reflect your task, file, and constraints—not just a plugin’s name or popularity. Figma’s Community guide explains that users can search and filter resources by type, including Plugins; organization and Enterprise administrators may also manage access to Community resources. - Task fit: Does the listing describe the precise action you need, and does it explain required selections or setup?
- Compatibility: Does it support your Figma product and file type, and is it available under your plan, seat, and organization’s access rules?
- Output and control: Can you inspect and adjust the result? Does the listing clarify whether it creates editable objects or changes existing layers?
- Maintenance and documentation: Review the current Community listing for recent updates, instructions, and any stated compatibility information. Do not infer active maintenance from an old article or remembered plugin name.
- Cost: Check licensing and in-plugin purchase details. Figma notes that paid plugins marked with in-app purchases may offer time- or usage-based free trials; free installation does not guarantee free functionality. Figma Help Center: Pay for plugins and widgets.
- External services and privacy: Figma says plugins can use external Web APIs. If a plugin sends or retrieves data, inspect its current listing and privacy documentation; its category alone does not establish how it handles data.
How to find and run a plugin
- Search Community: Open Figma Community, search for the task or plugin name, and filter resources to Plugins. Check the listing, creator information, instructions, compatibility notes, and terms.
- Confirm access: Make sure your plan, seat, file, and organization policy allow you to use the plugin in the relevant Figma product.
- Prepare the file: Read the plugin’s instructions and make the required selection or provide any requested input before launching it.
- Run it manually: Start the plugin from a supported Figma workflow. It will not continue working in the background, and you cannot run another plugin at the same time.
- Inspect the result: Check the generated or modified content before relying on it, especially for accessibility checks, external assets, or edits applied in bulk.
Why this is not a verified top 100
A list of 100 current “best” plugins would require checking each Community listing for its present name, creator, function, compatibility, availability, maintenance, and price, then applying transparent selection criteria. The official examples cited here are historical, and no independent usage, time-saved, accessibility-outcome, or comparative-performance figures establish a ranking. Treat plugin names in this guide as starting points for a fresh Community search, not as a guarantee that a tool is currently offered or suitable for your setup.
