Built In’s South Africa guide profiles 10 technology companies, not the 11 promised by its title. Its displayed list names 10 firms, while the profile section includes Mastercard and omits it from that list. The page does not identify an eleventh company or explain the mismatch. The profiles span enterprise software, financial data and payments, online marketplaces, IT services, consulting and solar supplies—so the guide is best read as a discovery list, not a ranking of South African-founded firms.
What the Built In guide includes—and what it does not
Built In published “11 Tech Companies in South Africa to Know” on August 19, 2026. The page’s displayed “Top Tech Companies” list names TransUnion, Morningstar, ServiceNow, InterSystems, Sourceworx, SUSE, GC Solar, Kaleidocode, OLX and Swift. Its profile sections also total ten, but include Mastercard instead of one of the displayed list entries. The page does not say whether Mastercard was meant to replace a missing company or which eleventh company, if any, was intended. Read the Built In article.

That difference matters if you are using the headline as a checklist: there are ten profiles to assess, not eleven. The descriptions below reflect how Built In characterizes the companies; they are not independent verification, an assessment of company quality, or a ranking based on disclosed criteria.

The profiles cover employers and operations with different business models. Some are global firms with a South African presence; Built In specifically identifies Johannesburg headquarters for GC Solar and Sourceworx. The breadth is useful for discovering potential employers, but the companies should not be treated as interchangeable.

They describe global or regional scale, not South African employee counts, market share or local investment. Built In supplies no comparable revenue, workforce or market-share figures for the companies.
How to use the list if you are looking for a job
Start with the work you want to do rather than the “tech company” label. A financial-data profile, an enterprise software platform, a managed-services provider and a marketplace business can offer very different roles and environments. Use the guide to identify possibilities, then confirm current openings, location, role requirements and employer details on each company’s own careers channels.

- For infrastructure or enterprise software: look at SUSE, ServiceNow and InterSystems, whose profiles emphasize enterprise platforms, systems and data.
- For finance and payments: consider the work areas Built In attributes to TransUnion, Swift, Morningstar and Mastercard, while checking the specific role and local team rather than assuming every function is based in South Africa.
- For IT delivery and consulting: Sourceworx and Kaleidocode are described in terms of client services, implementation and software work.
- For marketplace or energy-related work: OLX’s profile centers on digital marketplaces; GC Solar’s centers on photovoltaic supplies, training and logistics.
The page is framed around employer discovery and hiring, not product selection. GC Solar’s mention of photovoltaic products does not provide product models, specifications or buying criteria, so this guide cannot serve as a solar-equipment comparison.

What the article establishes about South Africa’s tech sector
It establishes that its selected profiles include several types of technology activity and a mix of global firms and companies with stated Johannesburg headquarters. It does not establish the size or growth rate of South Africa’s technology sector: the page provides no market-size, growth, employment or investment statistics to substantiate broader claims about ecosystem development. Treat its framing of a developing digital ecosystem as context offered by Built In, not as a quantified market finding.
