A SIM that the phone cannot recognize, incomplete activation, incorrect mobile-network settings, or a temporary software error can all be involved. Check SIM status first, then follow the steps below for your SIM type.
Check whether your Galaxy recognizes the SIM
Before changing settings, see whether the phone detects the SIM and displays your carrier:

- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone > Status information > SIM card status.
- Look for the carrier name beside Network.
If no carrier name appears, the SIM may not be recognized. If it does appear but service is still unavailable, the phone sees the SIM, but that alone does not confirm the line is active or that the carrier connection is working. Samsung cautions that menu names and layouts can vary by model and software version.

Contact your carrier if the phone or SIM is new to the line, you recently moved the SIM to another device, or eSIM setup is incomplete. Ask the carrier to confirm that the line is active and that no SIM-protection setting is preventing activation on this device. Samsung notes that some carriers offer SIM protection that can block activation on a new device; only the carrier can confirm whether that applies to your account.

If you use an eSIM
For an eSIM that will not activate during initial setup, Samsung directs customers to their carrier. A physical SIM tray inspection will not help with an eSIM activation problem.
Reset mobile network settings
Incorrect configuration can interfere with the SIM’s connection. Samsung states, “Incorrect mobile network settings may prevent the SIM card from connecting properly to the carrier network.” To restore the phone’s mobile-network configuration to its defaults:

- Go to Settings > General management > Reset.
- Tap Reset mobile network settings.
- Review the on-screen notice and confirm if you want to proceed.
- Restart the phone and check whether service returns.
Samsung says this reset removes saved mobile-network configuration and reconnects using default settings. Read the phone’s notice before confirming so you understand what will be reset.
Inspect a physical SIM, if your phone uses one
Restart the phone first. If the message remains, reseat the SIM carefully. Do not try to open a tray if your device uses only an eSIM.

- Use the eject pin straight in the tray’s eject hole and remove the tray without bending or forcing it.
- Check that the SIM is sitting correctly in the tray, then reinsert the tray fully.
- If the SIM contacts look dirty, wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid touching the metal contacts.
- If the tray is wet, let it dry fully before putting it back in the phone.
If you have access to another active SIM, trying it may help narrow down whether the issue follows the SIM or remains with the phone. This is a troubleshooting check, not a guaranteed diagnosis. Contact your carrier about replacing a SIM if needed.
Run a Samsung Members SIM diagnostic
If Samsung Members is installed and the feature is available on your Galaxy, open the app and go to Support > Get started > SIM. The diagnostic is available only on Galaxy devices with Samsung Members installed, so its absence does not by itself indicate a fault.

Know when to contact the carrier or Samsung
- Contact the carrier for line activation, eSIM setup, SIM-protection settings, or a replacement SIM. The carrier can also check account status and local network availability.
- Request Samsung device service if the SIM is confirmed to be working and active but the phone still cannot connect after the checks above.
The message by itself does not establish that a carrier outage, account suspension, or software update is responsible. Those possibilities need to be checked for your line, location, and device.
