10 RegTech Startups in the Risk Management Space

A practical overview of ten RegTech startups and the different risk workflows they target, from AML monitoring and due diligence to regulatory change and controls.

RegTech startups help organizations manage different parts of regulatory risk: financial-crime monitoring, customer and business due diligence, regulatory change, controls, and compliance workflows. The ten companies below are an editorially selected sample across those needs—not a ranking or a claim that one vendor is best. Their published descriptions explain what they offer, but do not independently establish product performance.

How to read this RegTech startup list

RegTech is narrower than the broader governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) category: this selection focuses on software that helps organizations meet regulatory obligations and manage compliance-related risks. Some products center on financial crime and AML/KYC; others help determine which rules apply, organize evidence, or manage ongoing reviews. The companies therefore address related but distinct workflows.

The list draws on company descriptions and two directories: Y Combinator’s RegTech directory and Startup.eu’s RegTech directory. Those sources support a comparison of stated product scope, not a definitive top-ten ranking or an independent assessment of accuracy, savings, or customer outcomes.

Ten RegTech startups and the risks they target

1. Diligent: customer due diligence and AML reviews

Y Combinator describes Diligent as offering tools for fintech risk and AML teams, including customer due diligence, entity-document review, and remediation of false-positive AML alerts. These functions target onboarding and review work rather than serving as evidence of independently measured alert quality.

2. Flagright: financial-crime monitoring and investigations

Y Combinator describes Flagright as providing transaction and customer monitoring, screening, investigation, and reporting for financial-crime risk. Its scalability statements are company claims; the directory does not provide a standardized independent comparison of detection quality or operational burden.

3. Complif: compliance workflows for financial entities

Y Combinator says Complif automates work across KYC/KYB, AML, risk profiling, document management, and regulatory reporting. Its stated scope spans onboarding and compliance operations, so a buyer should clarify which processes and jurisdictions are supported for the intended deployment.

4. TrueBiz: business onboarding information

Y Combinator describes TrueBiz as supplying business-background information and risk indicators to financial-service providers reviewing business onboarding. This makes it relevant where a team needs information about business applicants; the directory description does not establish the breadth or freshness of its underlying data.

5. Cardamon: mapping regulations to obligations and controls

Cardamon describes an AI platform that maps relevant regulations to applicability, obligations, impacts, risk types, and controls. Its profile says compliance officers can review and edit generated mappings. See the Cardamon profile for the company’s description. Any claimed time savings should be treated as a company claim, not an independently tested result.

6. RiskSafe AI: regulatory change and control testing

RiskSafe AI describes AI agents for monitoring regulatory change, extracting obligations, and testing controls, with an Australian and APAC focus. The company says it was founded in Melbourne in 2025 and that its platform is hosted in Australia; these are company statements on its company page. Organizations considering it should confirm current availability, jurisdictional coverage, and hosting arrangements directly.

7. Sinpex: KYC/KYB lifecycle management

Startup.eu describes Munich-based Sinpex as a KYC/KYB lifecycle platform covering onboarding, ongoing checks, ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) identification, risk assessment, AML screening, identity checks, and audit-ready reports. This broad lifecycle description makes it relevant to teams seeking connected onboarding and recurring review workflows; it does not establish how the product performs in a particular implementation.

8. Bits: European compliance and risk workflows

Startup.eu describes Bits as a European compliance platform with onboarding, risk assessment, monitoring, and AML/fraud decisioning, alongside registry, ownership, politically exposed person (PEP), sanctions, and fraud data. The directory describes coverage across “100+ jurisdictions”; that is a directory statement, not an independent audit of data coverage. Buyers should verify the countries, data sources, and update cadence relevant to their operations.

9. Copla: ICT compliance evidence workflows

Startup.eu describes Copla as an ICT compliance platform that turns requirements into guided, evidence-based workflows for regulated financial institutions. It is oriented toward organizing compliance work and evidence rather than customer screening or transaction monitoring.

10. Steward: investor onboarding and AML monitoring

Startup.eu describes Steward as an AML and compliance platform for investor onboarding and ongoing monitoring, including document collection, screening, risk assessment, and reviews. Its stated focus is useful to distinguish from platforms centered on general business onboarding or regulatory mapping.

How the products fit into risk workflows

Workflow Examples in this list Typical question to resolve
Financial-crime monitoring Flagright How are transactions and customers screened, alerts investigated, and outcomes reported?
Customer and business due diligence Diligent, Complif, TrueBiz, Sinpex, Bits, Steward Which identity, entity, ownership, onboarding, and ongoing-review checks are needed?
Regulatory intelligence and controls Cardamon, RiskSafe AI, Copla How are applicable rules translated into obligations, controls, evidence, or change alerts?
Compliance operations Complif, Copla, Sinpex, Steward Which documentation, review, and reporting tasks can be managed in a traceable workflow?

These categories overlap: for example, onboarding may combine identity verification, business risk assessment, screening, and documentation. The workflow labels describe the published product emphasis, not an exhaustive feature inventory.

How to compare RegTech vendors for fit

Start with the failure or obligation the organization needs to address, then compare vendors against the same operational requirements. The directories and company pages cited above do not provide a standardized independent comparison across these dimensions.

  • Workflow: Specify whether the need is screening, investigation, KYC/KYB, regulatory mapping, change monitoring, control testing, evidence management, or reporting.
  • Customer type and geography: Confirm the product supports the organization’s business model and the jurisdictions whose rules and customers it must handle.
  • Data sources and cadence: Ask what registries, identity sources, sanctions or PEP data, and regulatory materials are covered, how often they are updated, and how gaps are handled.
  • Integration and implementation: Map required connections to onboarding systems, transaction data, case management, document stores, and reporting processes; establish deployment effort and ownership.
  • Auditability and human review: Check whether decisions, source material, changes, reviewer actions, and overrides can be reconstructed and exported for audit.
  • Evidence of performance: Request independently verifiable evidence relevant to the use case, such as detection quality, false-positive burden, or time saved. Treat vendor claims as claims unless the measurement method and conditions are clear.
  • Cost and resilience: Assess total cost, support, security, continuity, and the vendor’s ability to maintain the service as regulations and data sources change.

A feature list alone is not enough to choose a compliance system. A trial or implementation assessment should use representative data and workflows, with agreed success measures and appropriate human review.

What the market-size figures do—and do not—show

StartUs Insights’ roundup, last updated February 5, 2025, reports 9.3K+ RegTech organizations worldwide and 1.4K+ emerging RegTech firms founded in the preceding five years. For that newer-company cohort, it reports an average founding year of 2020, about 22 employees per company, and average funding of USD 23.9 million per round. These are estimates derived from the publisher’s Discovery Platform, not an official global census or independently verified 2026 measurements. They provide broad context for a crowded field, not evidence that any of the ten companies is a market leader. StartUs Insights’ methodology and figures.
