Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Start by reviewing these ten settings—not by assuming the Galaxy Z Fold5’s defaults are wrong. The best choices depend on how you use the phone: battery preservation, productivity, gaming, privacy, and one-handed cover-screen use can call for different setups.
Menu note: Paths and labels can vary with One UI version, region, and carrier. Check your version under Settings → About phone → Software information. If a path below does not match, search Settings for the named control. Samsung notes that some feature availability and requirements vary by device and carrier; its Wi‑Fi Calling guidance is one example.

Set up your Fold5 in this order
- Install available system and app updates.
- Choose Battery protection to suit your charging routine.
- Check which apps are allowed to sleep.
- Choose a motion-smoothness setting.
- Configure the Taskbar and pin frequently used apps.
- Try only the Labs multitasking features you need.
- Choose which apps can continue on the cover screen.
- Adjust screen zoom, font size, and home-screen layouts.
- Change aspect ratio only for apps that need it.
- Review permissions and privacy controls.
1. Choose a Battery protection mode
Path: Settings → Battery → Battery protection. On some versions, look under Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Battery protection.
Choose Maximum if the phone is usually plugged in overnight or kept at a desk and you can trade some charge capacity for a battery-preservation measure. Choose Adaptive, if available, for a compromise; choose Basic when you need the most capacity each day. Limiting time spent at a high state of charge is a long-term trade-off, not a promise of longer daily runtime.
#1 Best Overall
- EXPANSIVE SCREEN, CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE: Streaming on the go with this big screen is a big deal; Unfold the massive 7.6" screen* on Galaxy Z Fold5 and lose yourself in your favorite content, no matter where you are
- YOUR GAMING EXPERIENCE, ELEVATED: With Galaxy Z Fold5, enjoy mobile games on the cover screen or unfold the interior screen for a more immersive experience; With an impressive processor, power through with a high refresh rate and minimal input delays
- THE FUTURE OF DOING MORE: With Dual-App Viewing, you can do more with more screen on Galaxy Z Fold5; Drag and drop photos into a text message, shop two sites side by side or stream videos while checking your feed
- IMPRESSIVE PRECISION. MORE PRODUCTIVITY: Precision meets portability with S Pen** capability on Galaxy Z Fold5; Write directly on the large screen and go from to-do to done
- FULL SCREEN OUTSIDE, MASSIVE SCREEN INSIDE: The 6.2” cover display* is perfect for one-handed scrolling and quick tasks; Or unfold the massive 7.6” interior screen* for everything else
With Maximum, the phone may stop charging around its configured limit—roughly 80–85% on some software versions. That is intentional, and you can change the mode if you need more charge for a commute or trip. For Samsung’s reported settings path, see the Fold5 settings overview.
2. Keep essential apps out of deep sleep
Path: Settings → Battery → Background usage limits; some versions place it under Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits.
Review Sleeping apps, Deep sleeping apps, and Never sleeping apps. Deep sleep is suited to apps you rarely open, such as a retailer or occasional game. It can reduce background activity, but notifications or synchronization may be delayed until you open the app.
Do not deep-sleep apps whose alerts or background work matter: messaging, two-factor authentication, work chat, navigation, health tracking, or time-sensitive email. If notifications stop arriving, remove the app from Deep sleeping apps and check whether it is also restricted elsewhere.
3. Pick the right Motion smoothness setting
Path: Settings → Display → Motion smoothness.
Choose Adaptive for smoother scrolling and everyday multitasking. Choose Standard when conserving power matters more than fluid motion. Adaptive can use more power than a fixed 60Hz mode, and the effect depends on use. Compare scrolling on both screens and observe battery behavior over a normal day rather than expecting a universal percentage difference.
4. Try Light performance profile only if it suits your workload
Possible paths: Settings → Device care → Performance profile, or Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → More battery settings → Performance profile. This control may not appear in every software version.
Light may suit browsing, email, messaging, and document work if you do not need peak sustained performance. Standard is the safer choice for demanding games and sustained photo or video processing. Light is not a general speed boost or guaranteed battery-life improvement; switch back to Standard if heavy apps process more slowly or perform worse.

5. Make the Taskbar work for you
Path: Settings → Display → Taskbar.
Check whether the Taskbar is on, whether recent apps appear, and which apps are pinned. Keep the pinned set small—perhaps your browser, email, notes, calendar, messaging app, and file manager—so switching apps and starting split-screen work is quick.

A persistent Taskbar takes up some visual space, which may bother you while reading, gaming, or watching video. Its initial state can vary, so check rather than assuming it is enabled or disabled.
6. Enable only the Multi window and Labs options you will use
Path: Settings → Advanced features → Labs. Available controls vary by software version.
For a productivity setup, try Multi window for all apps, Swipe for split screen, or Swipe for pop-up view, if shown. Start with one option and test it with the apps you actually use.

Some apps may refuse multi-window, crop or misplace controls, or impose their own restrictions. If an app becomes awkward or unstable, turn off the relevant Labs option or use that app full screen.
7. Choose which apps continue on the cover screen
Path: Settings → Display → Continue apps on cover screen.
Select apps that are useful when you fold the phone, such as Maps, a browser, a reading app, messages, music, or notes. Do not enable every app automatically: a large spreadsheet or editing app may be less usable on the narrow display, and sensitive content may be more exposed there.
Test each selection. An app can reload, lose its exact state, or behave differently because of the cover-screen dimensions. Remove it from the list if switching screens makes it less convenient.

If you want more information on the inner screen, reduce Screen zoom by one increment and check that text and controls remain comfortable. Smaller text and controls can be harder to read or tap, so restore the previous size if accuracy or legibility suffers.
Change an app’s aspect ratio only when needed
Possible path: Settings → Display → Full screen apps.
Leave an app on App default or Full screen when it looks right. If it is stretched, cropped, or misaligned, test a narrower option such as 16:9, 4:3, or Original if available. Narrower formats can add black bars, and a choice that helps on one display may be less convenient on the other. Reset that app to App default if the result is worse; an app update may also change its behavior.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →9. Review permissions and Auto Blocker
Check sensitive permissions
Path: Settings → Security and privacy → Permission manager.
Review Location, Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Photos and videos, and Nearby devices. For location, Allow only while using the app is a sensible starting point for many apps; use Ask every time where the interruption is acceptable, or Don’t allow when access is unnecessary. Choose based on what each app needs. Privacy is the main reason to review permissions; a battery benefit is not guaranteed.
Check Auto Blocker if it is available
Path: Settings → Security and privacy → Auto Blocker.
Availability and controls can vary by software version and region. More restrictive security settings may interfere with sideloaded apps, accessories, automation, or background synchronization. If an activity stops working, review the setting before changing unrelated battery controls.
10. Give the two screens useful home layouts
Path: Settings → Home screen. Search Settings for Cover screen mirroring if you cannot find the control.
Consider a simpler, thumb-friendly arrangement on the cover screen and a denser app grid or more widgets on the inner screen. Keep key apps in roughly similar locations if that helps muscle memory; turn mirroring off if separate layouts are more useful. Available grid sizes and mirroring controls may differ by One UI release.
Quick Recap
Choose settings by how you use the Fold5
- Battery-focused: Consider Maximum battery protection when charging habits allow, deep-sleep only rarely used apps, and try Standard motion smoothness or Light performance profile if their trade-offs suit you.
- Productivity-focused: Configure the Taskbar, test Multi window and swipe gestures, choose useful cover-screen continuations, and use a denser inner-screen layout.
- Gaming-focused: Keep Standard performance profile for demanding games, test Adaptive motion smoothness, and change aspect ratio only if a game renders poorly.
- Privacy-focused: Review Permission Manager and Auto Blocker, if available. Avoid restricting device-finding, emergency, authentication, or security-update functions you rely on.
- Cover-screen-first: Prioritize readable text, comfortable touch targets, a simple home layout, and selective app continuation.
- Traveling or often in poor-signal areas: Preserve the charge capacity and background alerts you need; Wi‑Fi Calling may help where supported, but carrier support, active SIM or eSIM service, Wi‑Fi, and emergency-address requirements apply. See Samsung’s Wi‑Fi Calling guidance.
If a change causes trouble
- If a menu is missing, search Settings for the feature name and check for software updates; Samsung’s U.S. support hub provides device-specific support.
- If notifications are delayed, remove the affected app from Deep sleeping apps and review its background restrictions.
- If multitasking breaks an app, disable the relevant Labs option or return to full-screen use.
- If an app looks worse after an aspect-ratio change, set it back to App default.
- If demanding apps slow down with Light performance profile, return to Standard.
- Change one setting at a time and test it in normal use so you can identify which change helped or caused a problem.
