What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Start by checking that your PC meets the game’s requirements and that 007 First Light is up to date. Then match the fix to the symptom: persistent low FPS calls for driver, file and graphics-setting checks; loading or area-entry stutter calls for an SSD, free-space and shader-cache check; crashes call for file repair, overlay and stability checks.
Check your PC against the official requirements
IO Interactive Player Support’s requirements article, updated September 15, 2026, lists these minimum and recommended specifications. The requirements page advises checking the Steam or Epic store page for final requirements.

These specifications do not promise a particular frame rate. IOI advises players near the minimum tier to begin at 1080p with the Low preset; higher presets and resolutions can be demanding.
Try the first-line fixes for low FPS or instability
IOI’s PC troubleshooting guide recommends this sequence for performance or crash problems. Restart after Windows or GPU-driver updates so the changes take effect.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by Radeon RX 9070 XT
- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
- Restart the PC.
- Install available Windows updates, then restart.
- Install the current driver for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics card, then restart.
- Verify or repair the game files in the Steam, Epic Games, or Xbox app library.
- Disable overlays and recording tools, including Steam, Discord, Xbox Game Bar, and GPU-vendor overlays.
Fix low FPS that stays low
Lower the most demanding settings in order
If FPS remains low after the first-line checks, reduce resolution first. Then lower shadows, reflections, volumetrics, and view distance. Close resource-heavy background applications while testing so they do not compete with the game.
Check laptop power settings
Connect a gaming laptop to power and set Windows power mode to Best performance. If performance drops only after the game has been running for a while, use the temperature and stability checks below rather than assuming the graphics preset is the only cause.
Address stutter when loading or entering areas
Check the install drive and shader cache
IOI requires an SSD. Confirm that the game is installed on one, and check that the install drive has free space. The support guide also recommends clearing the DirectX Shader Cache using Windows Disk Cleanup, then restarting the PC. In Disk Cleanup, select the relevant drive, select DirectX Shader Cache, and confirm the cleanup.
An SSD is a required specification, but that does not mean every hitch is caused by storage. Note whether pauses happen during loading or area transitions, or instead while turning the camera, in combat, or during another repeatable event.
Reduce texture pressure if there is pop-in
IOI says heavy hitching combined with texture pop-in can be a clue that the GPU is reaching its VRAM limit. Try reducing resolution and texture-heavy settings first. The support guidance does not establish that adding system RAM will fix this symptom.

Reduce delayed or floaty input
For input that feels delayed, IOI suggests trying V-Sync or setting an FPS cap slightly below the monitor’s refresh rate. Overlays and recording tools can also add latency, so disable them while checking whether input response improves. V-Sync advice depends on the symptom: it is a suggested test for delayed input, not a universal instruction to turn it off.
Investigate performance drops after 10–30 minutes
IOI recommends checking temperatures and throttling when FPS falls after a session has been underway; overheating can cause sudden performance drops. Check cooling and airflow, and test without GPU overclocks. Temporarily returning RAM from XMP or EXPO to stock settings can also help determine whether memory settings are affecting stability. For crashes that occur after longer sessions, IOI likewise recommends checking cooling and testing at stock clocks.
Troubleshoot startup failures, freezes, and crashes
For launch failures or a black screen
Use the first-line sequence above. If launch trouble continues, IOI’s next checks include permissions and security software, custom launch options, and conflicts with injectors. A clean boot can help identify conflicting startup software; reinstalling the game is a later step, not the first one.
For crashes during play or freezes
After file repair, driver updates, and disabling overlays, test without CPU or GPU overclocks. Lower demanding settings and check temperatures if the crash occurs during gameplay or after a long session. IOI’s advanced troubleshooting also suggests using system-managed Windows virtual memory, checking Windows Event Viewer for error details, and performing a clean GPU-driver reinstall. Update the BIOS only if you are comfortable following the motherboard maker’s instructions.

Version 1.2.2: September 25, 2026
IOI’s version 1.2.2 notes describe performance and visual improvements after the Path Tracing update. They list improved Path Tracing performance in the opening drive, hotel, and car chase; fixes for specific 5–10 FPS drops in two RTX 5070 scenes; and a fix for heavy stuttering when starting online Escalations with Path Tracing enabled. These are fixes for named scenarios, not a promise that unrelated stutter, crashes, or low FPS are resolved.

Path Tracing settings in version 1.2.2
For the Path Tracing workload, IOI’s September 25 guidance is to update the game and graphics drivers, then use Options → Graphics → Restore to defaults as a starting point. Its suggestions are specific to the listed RTX cards:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Graphics card | Suggested Path Tracing mode | Suggested fullscreen resolution |
|---|---|---|
| RTX 5070 | Medium | 1080p |
| RTX 5080 | Medium | 1440p |
| RTX 5090 | High | Up to 4K |
IOI also suggests NVIDIA DLSS with Super Resolution set to Auto, and says players can enable DLSS Multi Frame Generation (2X through 6X) or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation if desired. It describes Path Tracing High as more demanding, with greater shading and reflection detail and more ray bounces; Medium is its balanced recommendation unless using an RTX 5090. Depending on preference and display, its guidance says to consider V-Sync Off.
IOI’s version 1.2.2 guidance gives vendor-published expectations of around 60 FPS on an RTX 5070 at 1080p and around 60 FPS on an RTX 5080 at 1440p, depending on mission and checkpoint. It says 2x DLSS Frame Generation with Super Resolution Auto should deliver consistently above 60 FPS across the game, and that an RTX 5090 can reach 200+ FPS with 6x DLSS Frame Generation. These are IOI’s stated expectations, not independent benchmark results.
Earlier patch context
Version 1.2.1, dated September 17, 2026, acknowledged reports of performance issues after the Path Tracing release and said IOI was working with NVIDIA to investigate and improve performance. It also lists several Path Tracing crash fixes and added AMD FSR upscaling: FSR 4.1 is selected on supported Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 cards (RDNA 3/4); other cards use FSR 3.1. Earlier, version 1.1.1 fixed a PC black screen followed by a client crash on some PCs and a rare crash after entering Advanced Training in Malta and pausing.
