007 First Light Path Tracing on RTX 5090: Recommended Settings and What to Expect

IO Interactive recommends Path Tracing High at up to 4K for RTX 5090, but publishes no direct 9800X3D and RTX 5090 result for 2X Frame Generation.

IO Interactive recommends Path Tracing High at up to 4K for an RTX 5090, with DLSS Super Resolution set to Auto and Multi Frame Generation enabled. But its published guidance does not establish how a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5090 perform with 2X Frame Generation: the studio’s 200+ FPS figure for the 5090 is tied specifically to 6X Frame Generation, not 2X or native rendering.

What IO Interactive recommends for an RTX 5090

Path tracing became available with the September 15, 2026 update, which IO Interactive says makes the game’s visuals fully path-traced and adds detail to lighting, shadows, and reflections. The studio’s September 25 settings guidance recommends Path Tracing High for an RTX 5090, at resolutions up to 4K. It also recommends NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution on Auto and Multi Frame Generation enabled, with options from 2X through 6X or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. Read IO Interactive’s settings guidance on Steam.

High is the exception to IO Interactive’s broader Medium recommendation. The studio says High uses higher-quality shading and reflection detail and more bounces, at greater resource cost. Its lower-tier recommendations are Medium path tracing at 1080p for an RTX 5070 and at 1440p for an RTX 5080.

What the published FPS figures do—and do not—show

IO Interactive guidance Configuration and qualification
Around 60 FPS RTX 5070, 1080p, Medium path tracing and recommended settings; depends on mission and checkpoint.
Around 60 FPS RTX 5080, 1440p, Medium path tracing and recommended settings; depends on mission and checkpoint.
200+ FPS RTX 5090 with 6X DLSS Frame Generation. This is the studio’s expectation for generated-frame output, not a reported native-rendered rate or a 2X result.

Frame Generation increases displayed output by inserting generated frames; that output is not equivalent to the rate at which the game renders base frames. Whenever you compare FPS, identify the resolution, path-tracing setting, upscaling mode, Frame Generation multiplier, and whether the figure is generated output or base rendering.

IO Interactive’s FAQ separately lists a PC Ultra tier of 4K at 200+ FPS using DLSS 4.5 and the Ultra preset, with an RTX 5080, Ryzen 7 7700X or Intel Core i5-13600K, and 32 GB RAM. That is a distinct published tier, not a measurement of an RTX 5090 with path tracing or 2X Frame Generation. See IO Interactive’s PC requirements and FAQ.

What is known about the 9800X3D and RTX 5090 at 2X

The official sources do not provide a direct benchmark for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5090 running Path Tracing High with 2X Frame Generation. The recommended settings make that a supported configuration to try, but they do not establish a specific FPS result or prove how it behaves in a particular mission. The title’s “fg2x” framing therefore cannot be reported as a verified test result without measurements from that exact system.

For a useful test report, record the game version, mission and checkpoint, resolution, path-tracing quality, DLSS Super Resolution mode, Frame Generation multiplier, and the base rendered FPS separately from generated output. Scene-to-scene differences matter: IO Interactive says its expectations depend on mission and checkpoint.

Account for performance changes and system requirements

IO Interactive acknowledged player reports of performance problems after the path-tracing update and said later hotfixes improved visuals, performance, and the path-tracing setup experience. The studio also describes path tracing as demanding. Its September guidance says players should have a good experience on supported cards with an appropriate mix of settings, but that is the developer’s assessment, not an independent guarantee.

The FAQ lists Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, an SSD, and 80 GB of storage. It also lists PC minimum and recommended tiers at 1080p, respectively Low at 30 FPS and Medium at 60 FPS. Those general tiers do not specify this article’s path-tracing configuration. IO Interactive lists May 27, 2026 as the release date and PC among the game’s platforms.

Offline play and the initial update

IO Interactive says an internet connection is required once to download the Day 1 patch; after that, the full main campaign can be played offline. The studio recommends online play for features such as leaderboards and challenges. The official FAQ covers offline play and platform details.
