YouTube TV has introduced a new control to sort channels by what you watch most. If you’re tired of hunting through the same long Live guide every night, this “most watched” toggle is meant to bring your usual picks closer to the top.
This guide covers exactly how to find the toggle, turn it on, what the sorting behavior means in practice, and what to do if you don’t see the feature yet.

What changed in YouTube TV (the most-watched toggle)
Previously, YouTube TV’s channel ordering was largely static (or driven by favorites and guide layout). The new toggle adds an alternate sort mode that ranks channels based on your viewing activity—so the guide can surface high-frequency channels earlier.

Where the toggle lives
The feature typically appears anywhere YouTube TV offers guide sorting options. The exact label can vary slightly by platform, but it’s usually grouped with guide/list controls.
On the YouTube TV home screen
Look for a guide or sorting option near the Live section. On some devices, you may need to open the Live guide first, then adjust sorting from inside that view.
On the Live guide/channel list
This is the most likely location. When you open Live channels, look for something like Sort, Arrange, or a similar control that offers a most-watched option.

On different devices (smart TV, mobile, web)
UI structure differs across platforms, but the concept is the same: you choose a sorting mode for the channel list. Smart TVs usually expose it via an on-screen menu or Settings icon within the guide.
How to turn on the most-watched sorting
Below are practical, device-specific steps. If any label doesn’t match exactly, use the closest equivalent (Sort / Arrange / Order) and look for the option that mentions most watched.
Step-by-step on iPhone and iPad (iOS)
- Open the YouTube TV app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Live (or open the channel guide).
- Find the guide/list controls—commonly a Sort or Filter button.
- Select the sorting mode labeled Most watched.
- Confirm and return to the guide to see the updated order.
Step-by-step on Android
- Launch the YouTube TV app on Android.
- Open Live or the channel guide.
- Tap Sort / Arrange (wording varies).
- Choose Most watched.
- Back out to the guide; channels should reorder immediately.
Step-by-step on a smart TV
- Open YouTube TV on your smart TV.
- Navigate to the Live guide.
- Use the remote to open the guide menu (often a Sort icon or a menu overlay).
- Select Most watched for channel ordering.
- Exit the menu to verify the new ordering.
Step-by-step on a computer (web)
- Open your browser and sign in to YouTube TV on the web.
- Open the Live guide or channel list.
- Locate the sorting control in the guide toolbar.
- Choose Most watched.
- Wait a moment for the guide to refresh.
How the sorting behaves: what to expect
The “most watched” list is driven by your activity. It’s not just a static preference—it’s a ranking that can change as you watch more.
Watch history vs. “most watched” counts
In practice, the list should reflect recent viewing patterns. If you’ve mostly watched a few channels recently, those channels rise to the top. If you stop watching a channel for a while, it may drop.

Channel changes and favorites
Favorites (if enabled) can still influence what you see. Depending on your device and UI, favorites may appear separately or still get priority in other parts of the interface.
If your ordering seems “off,” confirm you’re viewing the mode set to Most watched and not a favorites-only view.
Regional and subscription differences
Channel availability varies by region and subscription package. So the “most watched” ranking applies only to the channels you currently have access to.

Network and playback permissions
If the app is failing to load guide metadata reliably, UI elements like sorting might not populate. Try switching networks (Wi‑Fi to cellular on mobile, or another Wi‑Fi network) and re-check after the guide loads fully.
Rollout timing and device lag
YouTube TV features may appear on some devices before others. It’s normal for the toggle to show up on one platform while taking longer on another. If you still don’t see it after updating and restarting, you may simply be waiting for rollout.
Common mistakes that make the list look “wrong”
- Sorting mode not actually enabled: You may be on a favorites view or a default order while assuming you turned on most-watched.
- Not enough watch activity: If you rarely watch Live channels, the “most watched” ranking may look nearly identical to the default guide.
- Guide not refreshed: On some TVs and mobile devices, the order can lag until the guide reloads.
- Recent lineup changes: After adding/removing channels, the ranking recalibrates.
Alternatives: other ways to find channels faster
If you’re not seeing the toggle yet—or you prefer another workflow—YouTube TV still offers several fast discovery options.
Use Favorites in YouTube TV
Favorites can reduce scanning by grouping your go-to channels. Even with most-watched sorting, favorites remain a reliable way to pin your personal shortlist.
Use search for specific shows
Search is often faster when you know the program name but not the channel. It also avoids guide layout changes that can happen across devices.
Use the Live guide filters
Some devices expose guide narrowing controls that help reduce clutter. If your Live guide is crowded, filters can get you closer to the content you want even without most-watched sorting.

Most-watched sorting is based on your viewing activity tied to your YouTube TV account. If you’re sharing a household, the ranking can reflect what others in the profile watched too.

FAQs about YouTube TV’s most-watched channel sorting
Does the most-watched sorting affect recordings and recommendations?
Typically, the toggle changes the guide’s channel ordering. It doesn’t automatically change your recording preferences, but your viewing patterns may still influence recommendations elsewhere.
Why does the top channel keep changing?
The ranking is activity-based. If you switch channels frequently—or binge content across different networks—the “most watched” order will update accordingly.
Can I turn most-watched sorting off?
Yes. Reopen the guide sorting controls and switch back to the default order or another sorting mode offered by the UI.
Will the toggle appear on every device I use?
Not always. Rollout can differ by smart TV model, iOS/Android version, and regional availability. If you’re patient, it usually arrives after the staged deployment completes.
What if my watch history seems ignored?
Try updating the app, restarting, and signing out/in. Also allow time after watching something—ranking updates may not be instantaneous.
Bottom Line
YouTube TV’s most-watched channel toggle is a practical quality-of-life upgrade for people who repeatedly watch the same networks. Once it’s enabled, your Live guide should surface the channels you actually use—so finding what’s on takes fewer button presses.
If you don’t see the toggle, update the app, restart, sign out/in, and give rollout time. And if you can’t wait, Favorites, search, and guide filters still cover most of the same “faster discovery” ground.
