When YouTube tests a video queue experience, the app may show a queue UI related to what plays next (often paired with watch history, “Up next,” or playback controls). Access typically depends on A/B testing, account eligibility, and app version.
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
So the important part is this: sometimes there is a real toggle in Settings, and sometimes the queue shows up automatically once your account/device is included in the test.
Prerequisites Before You Try to Enable It
- Update YouTube to the latest version available in your store (or install the official beta if you choose that route).
- Use the same Google Account you normally watch with—queue experiments are account-based.
- Have a stable connection (Wi‑Fi or strong cellular). Queue UI changes can require fresh server flags.
- Check age restrictions/permissions if you’re on Family Link or under a supervised Google Account—experiments can be blocked.
If you’re using a managed device (work/school) or a heavily restricted network (company proxy), feature flags can be affected too.
How to Check If the Video Queue Is Already Available
You can often spot whether the feature is already active without changing any setting.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open the YouTube app on your device.
- Play any video.
- Look for a queue-style control near playback: for example, an up next area that lets you add items and shows an ordered list.
- Open the video’s details/controls area and check whether there’s an explicit queue or next-up list UI.
If you see a queue list and can reorder or add upcoming videos, you’re likely already in the test group (or using a stable roll-out).
Enable the Video Queue on Android (App Settings + Update/Beta)
On Android, your best options are: (1) make sure you’re on a recent YouTube build, (2) look for any relevant in-app toggles, and (3) enroll in the official Google Play beta program to increase your chances of seeing testing features.
Platform: Android (Settings toggle, if available)
Some accounts get a toggle (others don’t). If you see it, turning it on may immediately enable the queue UI.

- Open YouTube.
- Tap your profile icon (top right).
- Tap Settings.
- Check categories like General (and any section labeled with trial/experimental wording, if present).
- If you find a switch related to queue, playback controls, or new features, turn it On.
- Close the app completely (recent apps → swipe away), then reopen and test playback again.
Platform: Android (Update the app first)
Even if there’s no toggle, new queue UI typically requires a newer client build.
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search for YouTube.
- Open the app page and tap Update if it’s available.
- Launch YouTube and sign into your account (if prompted).
- Play a video and re-check for queue/up-next UI.
Platform: Android (Join the YouTube beta)
Beta enrollment doesn’t guarantee the feature, but it often increases odds because YouTube can ship experiments there earlier.
- Open Google Play Store and go to the YouTube listing.
- Scroll to the section that shows Join or Leave under a beta program.
- Tap Join.
- Wait for the beta update to install.
- Reopen YouTube and check for the queue UI again.
Enable the Video Queue on iOS (App Settings + Update/Beta)
On iPhone and iPad, the same reality applies: queue testing is mostly driven by YouTube’s server flags, but updating and using the official beta route can help.
Platform: iOS (Settings toggle, if available)
If YouTube provides a toggle on your account, it will typically be inside the app’s settings after you’ve updated.
- Open YouTube on iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your profile icon (top right).
- Tap Settings.
- Look for any option related to playback controls, new features, or queue/next-up behavior.
- Turn the switch On if you see one.
- Force close YouTube and reopen it to refresh the experiment.
Platform: iOS (Update the app first)
A queue UI test is tied to the app version you run on iOS.

- Check if a Beta option exists (sometimes tied to TestFlight links).
- If you see an option to join beta, tap it and follow TestFlight enrollment prompts.
- Install the beta build from the TestFlight prompt.
- Reopen YouTube and verify the queue UI.
How to Confirm the Queue Is Actually On
Once you think you enabled testing, don’t just look for a UI element—perform a quick functional check.
- Start playing a video.
- Use whatever “next” or queue add control is shown (commonly a Add to queue-style action, or a plus/queue affordance near the video).
- Confirm the upcoming list appears with an ordered set of videos.
- Let playback reach the “next” item and verify it transitions as expected.
If YouTube shows an ordered next-up list and behaves consistently across app restarts, you’re likely in the correct experiment bucket.
Troubleshooting When the Option Doesn’t Show
If you don’t see any queue toggle (or the UI never appears), that usually means you aren’t in the current test cohort for your account/device or you’re on a build that doesn’t include the UI yet.

1) Verify you’re using the intended YouTube account
Queue experiments can be account-specific. Switch accounts in YouTube (profile icon → switch account) and test again.
2) Fully restart the app (not just background)
Server-side flags sometimes require a fresh app session. Force close YouTube, then reopen.
3) Refresh your network path
Try switching between Wi‑Fi and cellular, or toggle Airplane Mode on and off for 10–15 seconds. This can trigger a flag re-check.

If you can’t force the queue testing feature to appear, you still have practical ways to control what plays next.
| Goal | Queue Testing UI (if available) | Alternative You Can Use Now |
|---|---|---|
| Choose what plays after the current video | You’ll see an ordered next-up/queue list | Use the video’s “Up next” area or watch page controls (adds to what’s next) |
| Build a multi-video run | Queue lets you add multiple items | Create or use a playlist, then start playback from the playlist |
| Keep videos flowing while searching | Queue updates while you browse | Use playlists or saved “watch later” style workflows |
In many cases, playlists provide the same outcome even when a testing queue UI isn’t present yet.

Common Mistakes That Prevent the Feature From Appearing
- Testing on the wrong account (e.g., switching between personal and a work/school Google Account).
- Ignoring app updates and staying on an older YouTube build.
- Only backgrounding the app instead of force closing after changes.
- Expecting a permanent toggle—queue tests are often dynamic and can change by server conditions.
- Assuming reinstall guarantees access—it can fix stale data, but it doesn’t control the A/B assignment.
FAQs
Is there a guaranteed way to enable YouTube video queue testing?
No. YouTube queue testing is typically controlled by server-side experiments tied to account eligibility and app version. You can improve your odds (update, beta), but you can’t force enrollment.
Why do I see the queue UI on one phone but not the other?
Because YouTube can run different experiment assignments per device and sometimes per app build. Also, you might be logged into different accounts.
Will joining the YouTube beta on Android or iOS always show the queue feature?
No. Beta builds often include testing changes sooner, but not every experiment is enabled for every beta participant.
Does clearing cache or reinstalling change my experiment access?
It can refresh local state and force a fresh experiment check, but it usually won’t override server eligibility. Think of it as a troubleshooting step, not a switch.
Can the queue feature appear and then disappear later?
Yes. Testing cohorts can change over time, and UI rollouts can be paused or adjusted. If it disappears, it may simply mean your assignment changed.
Bottom Line
To enable YouTube video queue testing on Android and iOS, start with the basics: update YouTube, verify you’re on the correct Google Account, and look for any in-app queue or playback controls. If it still doesn’t show, joining the official beta programs and doing a clean restart/reinstall are your best remaining options.
When the queue UI appears, confirm it works by actually adding and playing the “next” item. If it never appears, use playlists or “Up next” alternatives to get the same viewing outcome while YouTube finishes the rollout.
