Super Chat lets viewers pay to highlight a message in an eligible YouTube live chat; Super Stickers let them pay to post an animated image there. Creators can enable both through YouTube Studio if their channel, location, and video meet YouTube’s requirements. These features also work with eligible Premieres.
What Super Chat and Super Stickers do
Both are YouTube fan-funding features used in live chat. A Super Chat is a paid message that can stand out from ordinary chat. A Super Sticker is a purchased animated image displayed in chat. Depending on the purchase value, YouTube may pin a purchase at the top of chat and show a countdown; pinning is not guaranteed to last until the countdown finishes if the stream or chat ends. Purchases do not transfer to other videos. YouTube Help explains the Supers features and their availability.

How the two options differ
| Feature | What the viewer sends | What appears in chat |
|---|---|---|
| Super Chat | A selected or entered amount, with an optional message | A highlighted paid message; its pinning depends on purchase value |
| Super Sticker | A sticker pack and an individual sticker | An animated image; its pinning depends on purchase value |
The local purchase flow shows the available amounts and sticker options. Both purchases display the buyer’s channel name, profile picture, and purchase amount publicly, and the information may also be available to the channel through YouTube’s Data API. YouTube may announce a purchase milestone; buyers get a preview before purchase and can disable celebration announcements in mobile app settings. YouTube’s purchase help covers visibility and current purchase details.

How to send a Super Chat or Super Sticker
You need to be watching an eligible live stream or Premiere where live chat is available. If you do not see the dollar-sign control in chat, the feature may not be available for that video, your location, or your account.

Some new purchases made in the Android app may be billed through Google Play; YouTube says this change does not affect pricing or cost. Super purchases can be viewed on computers and supported mobile apps, but YouTube says they are not supported on mobile browsers. Details such as available purchase amounts and billing can vary by location and change over time, so check the in-product flow and YouTube’s current purchase details.
Visibility and spending limits
On the Android purchase help page, YouTube states that purchases under $5 USD, or the local equivalent, do not appear in the ticker. It also lists combined spending limits for Jewels, Super Chats, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks of $2,000 USD per day and $8,000 USD per week, or local equivalents, and a maximum account balance of 120,000 Jewels. These are current platform-specific limits, not universal or permanent guarantees; consult YouTube’s Android purchase help for the applicable rules.
How creators enable Supers
Creators must meet YouTube’s fan-funding requirements before enabling Super Chat or Super Stickers. YouTube’s minimum requirements include YPP membership, being at least 18 years old, and living in a location where the feature is available. The creator and any MCN must accept and comply with applicable terms, including the Commerce Product Module (CPM) or, for creators who previously signed it, the legacy Commerce Product Addendum (CPA). Feature-specific conditions also apply. See YouTube’s Supers eligibility and policy page.

Enable the features in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Earn, then select Supers. The Supers tab appears only if the channel is eligible.
- Accept the CPM if YouTube prompts you to do so.
- Switch on Super Chat, Super Stickers, or both.
These steps follow YouTube’s creator instructions; interface labels and availability may change.
Check the individual video or stream
Channel eligibility does not make Supers available on every video. They are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, and made-for-kids videos, and on videos with YouTube Giving fundraisers. Live chat or comments must also be turned on. Supers can be available on eligible Premieres as well as live streams. YouTube lists these restrictions in its Supers policy information.
YPP thresholds and what they do—and do not—mean
YouTube’s monetization overview, accessed October 3, 2026, describes these YPP access thresholds for fan-funding features and the higher advertising tier:

These are YPP access thresholds, not a promise that every feature will be available to every channel, video, or country. Paid ad campaign views and watch time do not count toward the cited thresholds. Check YouTube’s monetization overview for current eligibility details.

How creators are paid
YouTube Help says creators receive the “majority” of Super Chat and Super Stickers revenue. The official pages cited here do not establish one universal percentage or a complete accounting of possible variations, so there is no reliable single take-rate figure to apply across locations and transaction methods. The amount a creator receives should not be inferred solely from the viewer’s displayed purchase amount. YouTube’s purchase help states the qualitative revenue share.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Refunds, moderation, and policy
YouTube describes Super Chat and Super Sticker payments as voluntary and non-refundable. A viewer can remove a sent Super from chat, but that does not recover the payment. Messages and sticker graphics must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and can be moderated by the creator or YouTube; a moderated or removed Super does not generate a refund. These rules are covered in YouTube’s purchase details and Supers policies.

- Redemption: Online
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
YouTube also says, “Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t crowdfunding or donation tools.” Participants remain responsible for applicable laws. If a charge was unauthorized, use YouTube’s official unauthorized-charge reporting path and check with the applicable billing provider; that is different from asking for a refund because you changed your mind. YouTube’s purchase help links to its payment guidance.
Supers compared with other YouTube monetization options
Supers are one-time purchases tied to a live-chat moment. Channel memberships instead involve recurring payments for member benefits, while Super Thanks is a paid animation associated with an eligible video or comment context rather than a live-chat message. Eligibility and terms differ by feature, and there is no universally better return: the right fit depends on whether a creator wants live interaction, recurring member perks, or support connected to a video. Review the current options and eligibility in YouTube’s monetization overview and Supers help.

Super Chat and Super Stickers are YouTube features; they do not themselves keep a channel streaming. If your separate goal is to run uploaded videos as a continuous YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded video or playlists. Add your YouTube stream key and start the stream; the computer at home does not have to stay on. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This is a separate streaming service, not a way to bypass YouTube’s eligibility rules for Supers. Start a free StreamNeo day.
