A YouTube channel-permission change does not, by itself, establish that your stream key has been invalidated. Check channel access and live-stream eligibility separately from the key: make sure the right channel is selected, confirm the connected account still has the access it needs, then copy the current key from YouTube Studio into your encoder. If you reset the key, replace the old one in the encoder.
Work through these checks in order
- Confirm the channel and account. In YouTube Studio, verify that you are working on the intended channel. If the software connects through a Google account, check that it is the account with access to that channel. After a permission change, confirm the current role can perform the live-stream action you need. YouTube’s role capabilities can vary; consult the current channel-permissions interface rather than assuming every delegated role can access stream settings. YouTube’s channel-permissions guidance
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube’s general guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. A valid key cannot override an eligibility restriction. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
- Copy the current key into the encoder. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Stream, find Stream key, and copy it into the encoder’s stream-key field. YouTube describes stream keys as the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
- Reset only if needed, then replace the saved key. If you choose Reset in Live Control Room, the encoder must use the replacement key. The old key saved in the encoder will not become the new one automatically. YouTube’s guidance says owners and managers can reset keys; if you do not have that ability, ask a channel owner or manager to do it.
- Identify how the encoder connects. These steps apply to software where you paste a YouTube stream key. If you sign in to YouTube directly inside a third-party app and do not use a key, YouTube directs users to that app’s support team instead. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream
- Check the encoder and connection. Update the encoder if an update is available, check its output status, and compare that with the signal shown in Live Control Room. If the encoder appears to send correctly but YouTube does not receive the feed, test the outbound internet connection. YouTube recommends contacting your internet provider if the connection test identifies a problem. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance
- Escalate with the specific error. If the channel, permissions, eligibility, key, encoder, and connection all check out, contact YouTube through its live-stream support route. For an app that uses direct sign-in rather than a pasted key, contact the app’s support team.
Separate a permission error from a key error
A stream key is an encoder credential; live permission is an account or channel capability. Google’s API documentation names livePermissionBlocked as an error for insufficient live permission. That is distinct from simply having an outdated key in an encoder. The error can help identify which branch to investigate, but it does not establish what changed on your particular channel. YouTube’s public guidance reviewed here does not say that changing channel permissions automatically rotates or invalidates a stream key. Treat the timing as a clue to recheck access and channel selection, not proof that the key was revoked. An outdated key, an ineligible channel, encoder trouble, or a network issue can also explain why a feed is not reaching YouTube.

What to tell support if the stream still will not start
- The exact error text or code, including whether it says
livePermissionBlocked. - Which channel is selected and whether the encoder uses a pasted key or direct sign-in.
- Whether the channel is verified and whether YouTube Studio shows a live-stream restriction.
- Whether you copied the current key or reset it, and whether you replaced the key in the encoder afterward. Do not send your stream key itself; it is a credential.
- The encoder name and version, its output status, and whether Live Control Room receives a signal.
- Whether an outbound connection test reports a problem.
