A wired Ethernet connection rules out Wi-Fi as one possible cause, but it does not guarantee that your PC can send a clean, steady stream to YouTube. Check the exact timestamped message in YouTube Live Control Room, inspect the encoder’s local output and computer load, then compare your stream settings with measured upload capacity. The warning alone cannot identify whether the cause is the encoder, PC, router, cable, ISP, or another part of the path.
Start with the exact YouTube stream-health message
Open the stream in YouTube Live Control Room and note the full health message and its timestamp. YouTube’s Live Dashboard and Live Control Room display messages beside the Health Indicator; red errors are critical and may stop an event from starting or cause viewer problems, while yellow errors indicate moderate issues that may reduce quality. YouTube’s stream-health guidance explains how to interpret these messages.

Use the message to choose what to investigate. A bitrate, codec, audio/video format, frame-rate, or keyframe warning points first to the relevant encoder setting. A general connection warning calls for checking both the encoder and the outbound internet path. “Poor connection” by itself is not evidence that the Ethernet cable is defective.
Check what the encoder and PC are producing
- Inspect the encoder preview. Look at the picture and listen to the audio directly in the streaming software. If either is already wrong there, fix the video or audio source, encoder configuration, or computer load before blaming the network.
- Check encoder errors and CPU load. A high load or encoder error can interfere with output even when the PC has Ethernet. If the local stream is poor, YouTube suggests considering another encoder where appropriate.
- Compare the preview with YouTube’s preview. If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy but the Live Control Room preview or health indicator reports trouble, move on to checking the outgoing connection and stream settings.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder output, its errors and CPU load, then investigating the internet connection if the local output looks healthy.

Match encoder settings to the stream and upload connection
First follow the specific correction requested by the Live Control Room error. Changing unrelated settings can make diagnosis harder. For YouTube’s listed RTMP/RTMPS configuration, the current encoder-settings guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval of 2 seconds (not over 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Supported video codec options listed include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table before a stream, since recommendations and interface wording can change.
For H.264, YouTube’s retrieved recommendations are 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps, and 8 Mbps for 720p at either 30 or 60 fps. These are YouTube configuration recommendations, not a universal pass/fail test for an internet plan. The recommended bitrate varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate.

- Cat 6 performance at a Cat5e price but with higher bandwidth
- High Performance Cat6, 30 AWG, RJ45 Ethernet Patch Cable provides universal connectivity for LAN network components such as PCs,computer servers, printers, routers, switch boxes, network media players,NAS,VoIP phones
- Jadaol cat6 standard cable support Cat8 and Cat7 network and provides performance of up to 250 MHz 10Gbps and is suitable for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet), 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-TX (Gigabit Ethernet) and 10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Ethernet)
- UTP(Unshielded Twisted Pair) patch cable with RJ45 gold-plated Connectors and are made of 100% bare copper wire, ensure minimal noise and interference
- The unique flat cable shape allows for a cleaner and safer installation. You can easily and seamlessly make the cable run along walls, follow edges & corners or even make it completely invisible by sliding it under a carpet.
- Run an upload speed test and note the result. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate and choosing a quality that is reliable for the connection.
- Compare the measured upload capacity with the configured video bitrate and the format you selected. Leave practical room for ordinary fluctuations and other network traffic; that headroom is general troubleshooting judgment, not a YouTube-published threshold.
- If upload capacity is inconsistent or too limited for the chosen settings, test a lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate, then check the stream again.
For example, if the encoder is set to H.264 1080p60 at 17 Mbps but the connection cannot reliably sustain that outgoing load, try a lower setting supported by your connection. Do not treat one speed-test result as proof the path will remain stable throughout a live event.

A cable connects the PC to a router or switch; it does not establish that every part of the outbound path is working properly. If the encoder output is healthy and the upload test indicates a connection problem, YouTube advises contacting your ISP.

- Reseat both ends of the existing Ethernet cable.
- If available, try another port on the router or switch.
- Temporarily substitute a known-good cable to see whether the symptom changes.
These are low-cost isolation checks, not proof that a cable is the cause. Buy a replacement only if inspection or substitution points to the cable. YouTube’s Ethernet-unplugging instruction in its live-stream tips concerns testing failover between primary and backup encoders; it is not a general fix for a poor-connection warning.
Test again before the next live event
- Run a test stream before going live, using representative motion and audio rather than a static screen or silent scene.
- Check both the encoder output and the Live Control Room preview.
- After changing one setting or connection at a time, watch whether the same health message returns and note its timestamp.
- During the event, continue monitoring stream health and audio/video so you can catch a recurring or new issue.
YouTube recommends testing before a broadcast and monitoring the stream during it. A repeatable test helps distinguish a persistent configuration problem from an intermittent connection issue.

Troubleshooting by symptom
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Encoder preview already has bad video or audio | Check the source, encoder settings, errors, and CPU load; consider another encoder if appropriate. |
| Live Control Room names bitrate, codec, format, frame rate, or keyframes | Correct the setting named in the message and compare the configuration with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. |
| Encoder output is healthy, but upload testing reports a connection problem | Isolate the wired path with reseating or substitution checks; if the connection test still indicates a problem, contact the ISP. |
| The warning returns after a setting change | Record the new message and timestamp, then follow that message rather than changing several unrelated settings at once. |
| More than one viewer on different connections reports trouble | Investigate the encoder as a possible common factor; reports from multiple viewers are diagnostically relevant, but do not by themselves identify the precise fault. |
