Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf YouTube warns that your bitrate is too high, first check the warning’s exact wording, then match your encoder’s video codec, resolution and frame rate to YouTube’s live-stream bitrate recommendations. If your upload connection cannot reliably sustain that combination, lower the resolution and set the corresponding bitrate. YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations—not its separate prerecorded-video upload table—are the right reference for this warning.
Fix the warning by checking these settings
- Read the full message. Confirm whether YouTube identifies video bitrate, audio bitrate or another video setting. YouTube documents separate video and audio errors, so do not change video bitrate blindly when the warning is about audio. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
- Check the ingest resolution and frame rate. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, look at the resolution and frame rate selected in the Ingestion Settings page. Unless you are using a variable-resolution entrypoint, YouTube says to use the exact bitrate for the selected resolution.
- Match the bitrate to the codec and mode. Use YouTube’s live settings table below to choose the recommendation for your video codec, resolution and frame rate. The values are in Mbps; if your encoder displays Kbps, multiply Mbps by 1,000. For example, 14 Mbps is 14,000 Kbps.
- Check whether your connection can sustain the mode. Run an upload speed test as a planning check. If the connection cannot reliably carry the selected resolution, lower the resolution and set its matching bitrate. YouTube recommends a speed test to check upload bitrate.
- Test before the event, then monitor the live stream. Test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. During the broadcast, watch YouTube’s stream health and messages so you can spot a problem with the incoming stream.
YouTube’s guidance for insufficient bandwidth is: “If you don’t have enough bandwidth for the resolution that you chose, consider lowering your chosen resolution.” A speed test is useful for planning, but it cannot guarantee that the connection will sustain a particular bitrate throughout a live event.
YouTube Live bitrate recommendations
The figures below are YouTube’s recommended live-ingest settings, not measured performance results or guarantees of connection capacity. Each value is Mbps. “AV1/H.265” and “H.264” show the minimum and recommended bitrates for that codec and mode.
| Resolution and frame rate | AV1/H.265 minimum | AV1/H.265 recommended | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2160p at 60 fps | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
| 2160p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | 30 Mbps | 11 Mbps | 42 Mbps |
| 1440p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 24 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 34 Mbps |
| 1440p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 15 Mbps | 7 Mbps | 21 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.3 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 360p at 30 fps | 0.3 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
For example, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p60. A higher frame rate or resolution changes the matching recommendation, so check the full combination rather than copying a bitrate from another stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Other encoder settings to verify
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 video, and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding and a 2-second keyframe frequency; do not exceed 4 seconds. Its listed audio codecs are AAC or MP3, and it lists 128 Kbps for stereo audio. If the message explicitly concerns audio, verify the audio codec and bitrate against YouTube’s guidance instead of lowering video bitrate.
See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions for its current live recommendations and supported settings.

Do not use the prerecorded-upload bitrate table
YouTube publishes separate recommendations for uploading prerecorded videos and for sending a live stream to YouTube. This warning concerns live ingest, so use the live encoder table above. An upload-video bitrate recommendation does not determine the correct bitrate for a live stream.
Common causes and fixes
- The bitrate does not match the selected resolution: check the Ingestion Settings selection and use the recommendation for that resolution, codec and frame rate. For a non-variable-resolution entrypoint, YouTube says to use the exact bitrate for the selected resolution.
- The encoder is set to a high resolution the connection cannot sustain: lower the resolution and set the corresponding bitrate. A stable, lower-resolution stream is preferable to selecting a mode the upload connection cannot reliably carry.
- The warning is about audio, not video: check the audio codec and bitrate; do not assume changing video bitrate addresses an audio error.
- The warning persists during a test: review the full YouTube message and stream-health indicators, verify the encoder settings against YouTube’s live table, and test again with representative audio and motion. The official guidance does not publish a success rate for any single fix.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are streaming uploaded videos on a continuous YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a separate way to keep that stream running: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo sends the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos, not a camera-based live feed, and streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
