YouTube Playlist Managers: Best Browser Extensions for Organizing Videos

Compare browser extensions for finding videos across playlists, organizing playlist folders, sorting items, and deciding when YouTube’s built-in controls are enough.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a large Watch Later backlog or videos spread across many playlists, start by comparing Playlist Wrangler; for folders that organize your playlist library, compare PocketTube and YouTube Playlist Folders. If you only need to rename, reorder, filter, or remove items, YouTube’s built-in playlist tools may be enough. These extensions solve different problems, and their store descriptions are publisher claims—not results of hands-on testing.

Choose an extension by what you need to organize

“Organizing YouTube videos” can mean two different things: finding or cleaning up videos inside playlists, or arranging the playlists themselves into a more useful library. A tool that excels at nested playlist folders may not help you find duplicates in Watch Later. Start with the job you want done.

Search or clean up videos across playlists, including Watch Later Playlist Wrangler Broad discovery and bulk-action claims; it is an unofficial extension that depends on YouTube’s changing interface.

Sync a nested folder tree of playlists between browsers YouTube Playlist Folders Requires configuring a Cloudflare Worker and D1 backend; video operations remain in YouTube.
Sort one playlist by title, channel, or duration, or group it with AI YouTube Playlist Organizer Sorting changes the real playlist order; AI mode sends titles and channel names to the provider you configure.
Add basic sort options to a playlist panel Playlist Sorter for YouTube Project documentation describes manual installation; verify current availability and permissions before installing.

Best browser extensions for YouTube playlist organization

1. Playlist Wrangler: broadest fit for search and cleanup

Playlist Wrangler’s Chrome Web Store listing describes cross-playlist search, filters, automatic topic categories, bulk moves and removals, duplicate discovery, Watch Later cleanup, and CSV export. That makes it the broadest listing-based match when the problem is locating particular videos or tidying a large collection, rather than merely sorting one playlist.

The listing says the extension works without an API key, OAuth, or a separate account, and keeps its index in browser storage. It also says the extension reads pages through the signed-in YouTube session; the listing characterizes it as unofficial and warns that YouTube interface changes can break it. Those are publisher statements, not an independent privacy or security audit.

The listing claims on-device classification across 252 categories and 40 languages, and says it warns before a playlist reaches YouTube’s 5,000-video cap. Treat both as claims in the listing, not independently verified benchmarks or a guarantee about YouTube’s current limit. Its stated browser modes are a side panel in Chrome, Edge, and Brave; a sidebar in Firefox; and experimental window mode in Opera and Arc.

2. PocketTube: folders integrated into YouTube

PocketTube is the clearest option to compare if you want nested folders for groups of playlists, surfaced in YouTube’s sidebar. Its Chrome and Firefox listings describe playlist-library organization along with search, filters, sorting, and selected bulk operations. The listings designate some multiselect actions and video-duration sorting as patron-only features.

The cited listings do not establish enough to make a detailed independent privacy assessment. Review the current listing, permissions, and data practices rather than assuming that store availability alone establishes safety. The Firefox listing showed 2,623 users and a 3.2-star rating from 135 reviews when accessed on October 3, 2026. Those are a time-sensitive snapshot for that listing only, not evidence of quality or parity with the Chrome version.

3. YouTube Playlist Organizer: sort a playlist, with optional AI grouping

This Firefox add-on is a narrower choice for sorting one playlist by duration, title, or channel. Its listing says local sorting does not require an API key. It also offers optional category grouping through an AI provider and key that you choose. In AI mode, the listing says video titles and channel names are sent to that configured provider; preferences and the key are stored locally, and the extension has no server of its own.

Sorting writes the new order to the actual playlist, so preview the result and use the documented undo option if you want to restore the previous order. The listing says it uses YouTube’s internal page API, which may stop working after site changes, and gives a supported playlist size of “up to about 2,000 videos.” Treat that as the add-on’s stated operating limit, not a platform-wide limit.

4. YouTube Playlist Folders: synced folders with a setup cost

YouTube Playlist Folders is for people who want nested folders and subfolders for navigating playlists, with folder data synchronized between browsers. Its project documentation says you configure a Cloudflare Worker and D1 backend. That extra setup and cloud sync are the trade-off for a folder tree that is not limited to a single browser’s local organization.

The project says it does not create, edit, sort, or remove videos in playlists; those actions remain in YouTube. Watch Later and Liked videos are excluded from folder assignment. Its documentation also says it requires no Google OAuth, YouTube Data API, or YouTube write permission. This project documentation is not equivalent to a store listing or an independent audit; decide whether you are comfortable configuring the backend and syncing folder metadata.

5. Playlist Sorter for YouTube: a basic sorting option

The project documentation describes sorting options such as title, date, and reverse order in a playlist panel, with Chromium support and manual installation guidance for Chrome, Chromium, Edge, and Brave. Because this recommendation is based on project documentation rather than an established current store listing, check the project’s latest instructions and inspect requested permissions before installing it.

When YouTube’s own playlist tools are enough

YouTube Help defines a playlist as “a collection of videos.” Its desktop guidance covers creating and sharing playlists, saving videos or Shorts, filtering playlist items to show all content, Shorts, or videos, and dragging items to reorder them. You can also edit playlist titles and descriptions and remove videos or Shorts.

  • Use YouTube’s filters if you only need to distinguish Shorts from videos or show all items.
  • Drag items to reorder a playlist when that control is available. YouTube says reordering is unavailable for playlists containing only Shorts.
  • Use the built-in edit and remove controls for occasional title, description, or item changes instead of adding an extension.
  • Some editing may be unavailable on supervised accounts, according to YouTube Help.

These built-in controls are a useful baseline: extensions mainly add faster discovery, bulk workflows, sorting, or a more organized view of the playlist library.

How to decide and install carefully

  1. Define the job. For cross-playlist search or bulk cleanup, compare Playlist Wrangler. For named folders around playlists, compare PocketTube and YouTube Playlist Folders. For changing the order of one playlist, compare YouTube Playlist Organizer or Playlist Sorter for YouTube.
  2. Check the current browser listing or project instructions. Confirm that your browser and version are supported and that the extension has been updated recently. YouTube changes can break tools that interact with its interface.
  3. Read the permissions and data explanation. In particular, distinguish local indexing or folder storage from data sent to an AI provider or synchronized through a cloud backend. If the publisher does not explain a data practice clearly, do not infer that it is safe from the extension’s presence in a store.
  4. Check whether the feature you want is paid or conditional. PocketTube’s listings identify some multiselect actions and duration sorting as patron-only. YouTube Playlist Organizer’s AI grouping requires a provider and key that you configure, while its listing says local sorting needs no key.
  5. Protect playlist order before bulk changes. Sorting or bulk operations can alter real playlist contents or order. Review any preview, confirm the target playlist, and note the tool’s undo or recovery option before applying changes.
  6. Start with a small, low-risk action. Try a sort or edit on a playlist where an unintended change would be easy to reverse. Then confirm the result in YouTube itself.

Privacy and compatibility: what the listings do and do not establish

  • Playlist Wrangler: its listing says the index remains in the browser and that it needs no API key, OAuth, or separate account. It also accesses pages through your signed-in YouTube session. These are listing statements, not a security audit.
  • PocketTube: the cited store listings describe functions and creator-support links but do not provide enough evidence here for an independent, detailed privacy assessment.
  • YouTube Playlist Organizer: according to its listing, ordinary sorts are local; optional AI grouping sends video titles and channel names to the provider you select. Consider that disclosure before enabling the feature.
  • YouTube Playlist Folders: its project says folder data is stored locally and can be synchronized through a configured Cloudflare backend. Consider whether cloud-synced folder metadata fits your needs.
  • All of them: check recent updates and current permissions. Extensions that depend on YouTube’s interface or internal page behavior may stop working when the site changes.

No extension here was installed, tested, or security-audited for this article. Feature, compatibility, and privacy descriptions are attributed to the relevant store listings or project documentation; they should not be read as hands-on verification.

Keep playlist organization separate from 24/7 streaming

A playlist manager organizes saved videos; it does not keep a YouTube live stream running. If you separately want uploaded videos to loop as a YouTube channel’s always-on stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that distinct task: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud continues looping with your computer off, and StreamNeo says it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It streams to YouTube only and is not a camera-broadcast tool. You can try the first day free with no card; see the StreamNeo free trial.
