YouTube Music has started upgrading Quick picks so you can create a radio from more than one song, not just one track at a time. The goal is simple: faster discovery that still respects your taste.
This guide walks you through using the multi-song radio creator across iPhone, iPad, Android, and desktop, plus what to do when the option is missing or the radio results feel off.

What changed: Quick picks now supports multi-song radio creation
Quick picks is designed to get you from “I want something like this” to playback quickly. The upgrade adds a multi-song radio creator, letting you select multiple songs and generate a station that blends the artists, sounds, and patterns across your choices.
Instead of building a station around a single anchor track, you effectively provide multiple “anchors” at once—useful when your mood is mixed (for example: upbeat pop + smooth R&B) or when one song alone is too narrow.

What you need before you start
Because this is a rolling feature, the biggest prerequisite is simply having the latest YouTube Music app on your device and being logged into your account.
- Device: iPhone, iPad, Android phone/tablet, or a desktop browser
- App: update YouTube Music to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play
- Account: sign in to your Google account in YouTube Music
- Network: a stable connection (Wi‑Fi is recommended for first-time feature loading)
How multi-song radio creator works (plain-English model)
Think of the station as a dynamic recommendation engine fed by your selected songs. YouTube Music uses signals like similar artists, shared genres, audio characteristics, and your interactions (plays, likes/dislikes, skips) to keep the radio aligned.
When you pick multiple songs, the radio has more context. That typically means:
- Broader coverage: fewer “same-song clones,” more variety
- Better mood fit: your station follows the combined vibe of your selection
- More stability: a weaker anchor song gets balanced by the stronger ones
Create a multi-song radio from Quick picks on mobile
On mobile, the multi-song radio creator is usually tied to selecting items inside the Quick picks workflow. You’ll typically be able to select songs, then choose a radio option (often labeled Radio, Station, or similar) to start playback.
On iPhone and iPad (iOS)
- Open the YouTube Music app.
- Go to Quick picks (commonly under the Home/For You area, depending on your layout).
- Find the songs you want to anchor your station to.
- Tap to select multiple songs (look for checkmarks, a multi-select mode, or a selection bubble).
- Tap Radio / Create radio / Start radio (the exact label can vary, but it’s the option that generates a station instead of starting a playlist).
- Playback starts immediately; use the station controls to refine (see the “Manage and refine” section below).
On Android
- Open the YouTube Music app.
- Go to Quick picks from the Home screen.
- Select multiple songs you want included in your radio anchors. Watch for a multi-select indicator (for example, selected song checkmarks).
- Tap the action that creates a station: Radio or Create radio.
- Confirm and start playback.
- Adjust with thumbs/switches as needed.
Create a multi-song radio from Quick picks on desktop
If you prefer a bigger screen, the web app often exposes the same multi-song option—especially if your account already has the feature enabled.

On web (YouTube Music in a browser)
- Open YouTube Music in your browser and sign in.
- Go to Quick picks on the left sidebar or from the Home feed.
- Select multiple songs (look for checkboxes or a multi-select mode).
- Choose the radio action (commonly labeled Radio).
- Start the station and let it run.
Make the radio better: selection strategy that actually improves results
The multi-song radio creator is powerful, but it still needs good input. Your selections directly affect the station’s “center of gravity.”
Use this practical selection strategy:
- Pick 3–8 songs: enough variety to avoid repetitive picks, not so many that the station becomes generic.
- Include at least one “vibe match” song: a track that perfectly matches your current mood.
- Mix one or two “edge” songs: tracks that stretch your taste slightly (different artist but similar energy, tempo, or instrumentation).
- Avoid duplicates: if two songs are basically the same track or remix with identical audio characteristics, they won’t add useful signals.
If your station feels too narrow, add a song that shares genre or production style (not just the artist). If it feels too broad, remove the most stylistically different anchor.
Manage and refine: thumbs, skips, and restarting the radio
Once the station starts, YouTube Music keeps learning. Your controls don’t “lock” the radio forever, but they strongly influence what comes next.
Use feedback controls
When a track fits your taste, use Like (thumbs up). When it doesn’t, use Dislike (thumbs down) if available. If you’re unsure, skip early rather than letting a bad match repeat for several minutes.
Restart the station when it drifts
If the radio starts going off-track, restarting it after a few corrective signals can help. On many devices, you can tap the station name and choose an option to restart or re-generate, depending on UI availability.

Try a “clean reroll” with new anchors
When you selected the wrong mix of songs, the fastest fix is to create a new radio with corrected anchors rather than forcing the current station to recover.
Radio vs Playlist vs Queue: when to use each
Multi-song radio is not meant to replace every listening mode. Here’s how to decide.
| Mode | Best for | What it prioritizes |
|---|---|---|
| Radio (multi-song) | Continuous discovery without curating every track | Similarity to your selected songs + your feedback |
| Playlist | Repeating a specific sequence or sharing a curated set | Your chosen track order and fixed content |
| Queue | Filling a short window between “now” and “later” | Tracks you added, in the order you set |
If you want “more like this, but not exactly this,” multi-song radio is usually the right move. If you want “these exact songs in this exact order,” use a playlist or queue.
Troubleshooting when the multi-song radio option doesn’t show up
Because features often roll out gradually, it’s common to see different UI depending on account eligibility, app version, and platform.
Fixes by device and app state
- Update YouTube Music to the newest version in the App Store / Google Play. Then fully close and reopen the app.
- Confirm you’re on the latest OS (at least iOS or Android version that your device supports). Compatibility issues can hide new controls.
- Check your account: log out and back in if the option fails to appear after an update.
- Switch networks: try Wi‑Fi vs mobile data. Some feature flags don’t load cleanly on unstable connections.
- Try another entry point: if multi-song radio isn’t visible inside Quick picks, search for one of the songs, then see if the radio creator appears from the song’s menu.
If you still can’t find it after updating, you may be in the next rollout wave. Desktop web sometimes receives updates slightly differently, so testing on a browser can help confirm whether it’s account-side or device-side.

When it creates a weak station anyway
Weak stations usually come from anchor selection. Try these adjustments:
- Remove one outlier: if one song is a very different genre or era, it can dilute the results.
- Increase anchor consistency: choose songs that share the same vocal style, tempo, or production vibe.
- Limit anchors: if you picked 10+ songs, reduce to 3–6.
Also, give the station a few tracks. Some radios need 5–10 songs to “lock in” because the system is sampling similarity signals.
When the radio won’t start or keeps failing
If the radio fails to play, the problem is usually connection, playback auth, or app caching.
- Check if other YouTube Music playback works normally.
- Restart your device (fastest way to clear stuck playback state).
- Force-close the YouTube Music app and reopen it.
- Try a different radio creation method (single-song radio vs multi-song) to isolate whether the multi-song step is the failure point.
- If on web, hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 / Cmd+Shift+R) and try another browser tab/session.
For iOS/Android, clearing app cache (where supported) can help, but avoid re-installing unless updates and basic resets didn’t fix it.

If you prefer less personalized behavior, review your YouTube and Google activity settings. The radio itself is still music recommendations—nothing about the station creation is “public” in the way a playlist share link would be.
FAQs
Can I create a multi-song radio using songs outside Quick picks?
Often yes. Even if the multi-song creator isn’t visible in Quick picks on your device, you can check song menus or selection flows from search/results. If your account has the feature enabled, it usually appears wherever song selection is supported.
Does a multi-song radio replace my playlist?
No. Radio stations are typically temporary recommendation streams. You can still save tracks to a playlist if you want a persistent collection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy does my radio keep repeating artists?
Repetition can happen when your anchors are too focused (same genre + same artist family) or when your feedback signals push the model toward a narrow cluster. Reduce anchors to 3–6 and add one “edge” track that still matches the vibe but expands the musical space.
Will this feature look different on iPhone vs iPad vs Android?
Yes. The underlying capability is the same, but the UI controls can differ slightly. Look for the multi-select state and a radio/station action tied to that selection.
Is the multi-song radio creator available on desktop only after some update?
It depends on rollout. If you don’t see it on web, update your browser, sign out/in, and try again. If it still doesn’t show up, it may simply be waiting for your account to receive the feature.
Final Thoughts
The multi-song radio creator upgrade turns Quick picks into a faster way to describe your mood—without curating a full playlist. When you select a tight set of 3–8 songs, you usually get better variety and fewer “wrong direction” tracks.
