YouTube Music’s Home tab isn’t static. Over time, the app tests new card layouts, mixes in different “modules” (mixes, artists, new releases, and picks), and refines how it ranks recommendations for your account.

When people say “the Home feed design changed,” they’re usually reacting to one or more of these updates: card ordering, additional recommendation rows, different artwork density, and shifts between “mix” style modules and “new releases/picks” style modules.

These tweaks generally come from server-side experiments, not a single switch you can flip. Your client app (Android/iOS) can display the new layout, while the ranking logic and feed composition are controlled on YouTube/Google’s side.
What you can (and can’t) control in the Home feed
Some controls are real and repeatable. Others are limited because YouTube Music treats Home like a personalized recommendation surface.
Controls you can typically use
- Personalization reset: reset recommendations tied to your account so Home starts “fresh.”
- History management: clear or pause watch/history signals that feed the recommender.
- Preferences: adjust how YouTube Music matches your tastes (when the app exposes those settings for your build/region).
- Cache/data cleanup: helps when the UI appears stuck, duplicated, or visually broken.
Controls that often aren’t available
- Manual reordering: you usually can’t drag-and-drop Home feed rows.
- Per-card layout themes: changing fonts, spacing, or module styles is typically not user-configurable.
- Hard blocking specific modules: you can influence content, but not always permanently remove every row type.
Prerequisites: get the latest app and confirm your account
Before you change settings, confirm you’re on a consistent app build and the account you care about is active. A “wrong account” is one of the most common reasons the feed feels unpredictable.
Check your app version
- Android: Open Play Store → search YouTube Music → look for Update if it appears.
- iOS: Open App Store → search YouTube Music → look for Update if it appears.
If the app is already current, that’s fine—just move on to personalization and data controls.
Confirm you’re signed in
Open YouTube Music → tap your profile picture/initials → confirm the correct Google account. If you use multiple accounts (work + personal), Home will adapt to whichever one is active.
Android: adjust Home feed personalization
On Android, YouTube Music’s Home feed typically responds best to recommendation resets and history cleanup rather than UI-tweaking. Still, the exact path matters.
1) Use YouTube Music Settings to reach personalization options
- Open YouTube Music.
- Tap your profile icon (top-right).
- Tap Settings.
- Look for sections related to History, Preferences, or Your data.
Menu labels can vary slightly by version, region, and A/B test. If you don’t see the option immediately, use the search inside Settings if it exists for your build.

2) Reset recommendations (best lever for “wrong” Home)
- Go to YouTube Music → profile icon → Settings.
- Find Reset or Recommendations (sometimes under Your data).
- Confirm the reset when prompted.
After reset, Home usually repopulates over the next few hours to a couple of days as new signals accumulate.
3) Clear history signals that influence Home
- Open YouTube Music → profile icon → Settings.
- Go to History (or “Your data”) and choose Clear watch history or Clear YouTube Music history if shown.
- Confirm.
If YouTube Music routes you to a web page for history management, use the same Google account you’re currently signed into on your phone.
4) Train Home with quick, consistent actions
- Like (thumbs up) tracks you want more of.
- Follow artists you actually listen to.
- Play a few albums in order instead of shuffling everything.
- Skip aggressively irrelevant tracks (don’t let them dominate your session).
These actions don’t “change the design,” but they do change what fills the design.
iPhone/iPad (iOS): adjust Home feed personalization
On iOS, the Home feed design often changes silently due to server-side experiments. Your best tools are still within Settings and your account’s history controls.
1) Open YouTube Music Settings
- Open YouTube Music.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Settings.
From here, look for History, Preferences, or Your data. If an option isn’t visible, update the app and check again—some controls appear only on certain builds.
2) Reset recommendations
- In Settings, find Reset or Recommendations.
- Select the option to reset recommendations.
- Confirm the reset.
Expect Home to rebuild itself. You may see more “generic” picks right after reset until your listening signals return.
3) Clear history or pause it temporarily
- Go to Settings → History (or Your data).
- Choose Clear history options if available.
- If you see a pause option, use it when you want to stop new signals from influencing Home for a limited time.
If a toggle isn’t visible in the app, you’ll likely manage it on the web via your Google account’s YouTube history controls.

4) Train the feed with likes and follows
- Tap Like on tracks that match your taste.
- Use Follow on artists and playlists you want prioritized.
- Finish listening sessions rather than bouncing constantly between unrelated genres.
On iOS, this typically shows up faster because your Home ranking model gets updated signals from active playback.

Reset recommendations when the new layout feels off
If the Home feed “design” looks new but the content also feels wrong—too repetitive, irrelevant, or overly dominated by one era—resetting recommendations is usually the most direct fix.
What a reset changes
- It reduces the effect of prior listening signals on Home’s ranking.
- It may restore variety by rebalancing mixes, new releases, and picks.
- It won’t permanently change the overall card style, because that’s the UI experiment layer.
After reset: how long to wait
Plan for at least 24–72 hours for noticeable improvement. Server-side experiments and recommendation caching can delay changes, especially if you’re on slow networks or low battery saver settings.
Clean up the data that shapes your Home feed
Home is powered by multiple signal sources. If you had a weird listening week (a podcast binge, a karaoke night, or a shared household account), those signals stick around.
Manage YouTube and YouTube Music history
YouTube Music can draw from history signals that may be controlled in your Google account settings. In practice, you may need to use both the app and the web interface.
Practical workflow
- Inside YouTube Music → Settings, clear what’s labeled as YouTube Music history (if present).
- Open a browser on your phone or computer and go to your Google account’s History controls.
- Clear or pause YouTube watch history if it’s impacting music recommendations.
- Then reset recommendations in the app (if you still don’t like the outcome).
Gotcha: clearing history isn’t instant
Even after you clear history, Home may keep showing recently cached recommendations until the next sync. Don’t panic—check again after a day.
Offline, Downloads, and “My Library” effects on Home
YouTube Music’s Home feed can reference content you’ve interacted with, including downloads and library items. If your library is full of older stuff you rarely play, the feed may keep reminding you.

What to do
- Review Downloads: on Android/iOS, clear outdated downloads you don’t need (this mostly helps playback behavior, not ranking, but it can reduce “stale” prompts).
- Rebuild your Library: remove likes/follows you don’t want shaping the feed.
- Play with intention: if you want a cleaner feed, spend a week listening intentionally to your target genres/artists.
Troubleshooting: Home feed still looks wrong
When Home looks visually broken (blank cards, overlapping rows, missing thumbnails), treat it like an app/UI issue—not just a personalization issue.

iOS: reinstall when Settings options don’t help

- Start with a Mix you trust rather than Home.
- Use Search for targeted listening until your recommendations stabilize.

Follows are often more durable than one-off likes. If Home is drifting, adding a few key follows can re-anchor the recommender within a week.
