How to use prompt-generated AI radio
Once the option is visible, the workflow usually follows the same pattern: you describe what you want, start the radio, and then steer it with feedback.
- Open the prompt-based radio option (often a station or “create” style button).
- Enter a short text prompt that includes intent (mood/activity), style (genre or era), and optionally constraints (tempo, vocals, energy level).
- Press Start / Play / Create radio (wording can vary by build).
- Listen for ~10–20 minutes to establish whether the station direction matches your goal.

AI radio option is missing
- Confirm you’re on the latest YouTube Music app build (update from the app store).
- Fully close the app and relaunch it.
- Sign out of YouTube Music and sign back in.
- Check that your account isn’t in a restricted playback mode (age restrictions, region constraints).
- Try a different network (switch Wi‑Fi to cellular or vice versa).
If it still doesn’t appear, it’s likely that the account doesn’t have the test flag yet.
It shows up, but playback fails
- Restart playback from the station card rather than resuming the last queue.
- Clear any app-level issues by restarting the device.
- Check connectivity: disable VPN/proxy if you use one.
- Confirm you can play other music normally.

Privacy and personalization considerations
Prompt-based features inherently involve user input, which means your text prompts can be treated as preference signals. You should assume your prompt contributes to personalization and may be used to improve model behavior, consistent with platform policies.
For the safest approach:
- Avoid sensitive personal data in prompts (names, locations tied to real-world identity, or anything you wouldn’t share).
- Review Google account privacy controls related to personalization and ad settings if you’re sensitive to it.
- If you’re testing in a shared environment, consider how your prompt-driven station could be influenced by—or influence—account history.
Also note that “radio” is still grounded in the catalog and your listening patterns, so your prompt can’t fully override mismatched personal taste signals.

Use existing mood-based mixes and radio stations
Start with blends labeled for mood or activity, then fine-tune by liking and skipping. This mimics the same “steer the station” loop that prompt AI radio uses, just with fewer words.
Build a playlist from a single anchor + prompt-like keywords
Create a playlist and seed it with 10–20 tracks you already like. Then search using keywords that match your intended vibe (e.g., “calm synth,” “late-night R&B”) and add tracks from there.
Use voice or text search to jump-start the queue
Search doesn’t generate a station in the same way, but it can get you to the right “neighborhood” quickly. After that, start a radio from the discovered tracks to extend the selection.

Other music apps have introduced AI-assisted discovery modes. If YouTube Music’s test isn’t live for you yet, it can be reasonable to use an alternative for prompt-like discovery while you wait.
