YouTube Live Streaming Limits for a New Channel After Verification

YouTube mobile live streaming has additional gates after verification, including 50 subscribers, a possible first-stream wait, and audience limits below 1,000.

Verifying your YouTube channel by phone does not automatically unlock every way to go live. For mobile live streaming, YouTube currently requires at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, live streaming turned on, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a compatible phone. A first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after activation. The 50-subscriber threshold and the limits below 1,000 subscribers apply to mobile streaming; YouTube’s general computer guidance does not state that same threshold for webcam or encoder streams.

What phone verification does—and does not—unlock

YouTube distinguishes channel verification from advanced-feature access. Phone verification grants intermediate features; advanced features require phone verification plus sufficient channel history or an eligible identity or video verification route. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not identify advanced-feature status as a universal requirement for basic mobile live streaming. Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio rather than assuming that completing phone verification settles every requirement. YouTube’s feature-access guidance explains the feature levels.

For mobile live streaming, verification is only one gate. YouTube’s mobile live-streaming guidance also lists the subscriber threshold, activation, device operating system, and a clean recent restriction history.

Mobile live-streaming requirements

  • At least 50 subscribers. This requirement is for mobile live streaming.
  • A verified channel. Phone verification is part of accessing the relevant features, but it does not override other eligibility checks.
  • Live streaming turned on. Enable it for the channel and allow for possible activation delay on the first mobile stream.
  • No live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. A restriction can block access even if the subscriber count and device are otherwise eligible.
  • A compatible phone. YouTube lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 8 or later.

First-stream activation can take time

YouTube says the first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after live streaming is turned on. This is a possible wait, not a guaranteed activation time for every account. Once the feature is active, subsequent streams can be started immediately, subject to the channel’s current eligibility and restrictions.

What changes below 1,000 subscribers

A mobile channel with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have a limit on the number of viewers for a mobile stream, and its stream archive is private by default. YouTube does not state an exact audience cap in the cited guidance, so there is no reliable universal number to quote. YouTube’s mobile audience-limit guidance describes these safeguards.

Reaching 1,000 subscribers does not necessarily lift the audience limitation straight away. YouTube says removal may take several weeks; if the subscriber count falls below 1,000 during that period, removal may take longer. A channel that falls below 1,000 is subject to the same mobile limitation again. It retains mobile live-streaming access unless it falls below 50 subscribers.

Mobile versus computer live streaming

Route What YouTube’s guidance says What to check
Mobile app At least 50 subscribers, verified channel, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+. Under 1,000 subscribers, a mobile audience limit may apply and archives are private by default. Subscriber count, device OS, Studio eligibility, activation wait, and any audience or archive settings.
Webcam on a computer YouTube lists webcam streaming as a computer option. Its general live-streaming tips do not state the mobile 50-subscriber threshold for this route. Channel verification and restrictions still matter; check the live-streaming status in YouTube Studio.
Encoder on a computer YouTube lists encoder streaming as a computer option, useful for a software-based production workflow. Its general guidance does not state the mobile 50-subscriber threshold for this route. Confirm account eligibility and any restrictions. Using a computer route does not bypass an active restriction.

YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” Its general live-streaming tips cover the computer options. Neither a webcam nor an encoder is a workaround for an account restriction.

How to check why the mobile app is still blocked

  1. Open YouTube Studio and check feature eligibility. Review the channel’s current access status and any notices. YouTube directs creators to Studio for feature eligibility.
  2. Confirm live streaming is enabled. If this is the first mobile stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation before treating the delay as a persistent failure.
  3. Check the mobile-specific gates. Verify that the channel has at least 50 subscribers, the phone meets the listed OS requirement, and there has been no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
  4. If streaming works but reach or replay visibility seems limited, check the subscriber range. Below 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit mobile viewers and make the archive private by default.
  5. Read the actual restriction notice if access remains blocked. Do not try to evade a live-stream restriction by switching to another channel.

Restrictions that verification cannot fix

YouTube identifies several reasons a channel’s live-streaming access or features may be restricted, including policy or copyright actions, age-related rules, Made for Kids feature restrictions, and the daily stream-creation limit. The applicable notice in Studio is more useful than buying different hardware or changing streaming software. A creator whose live-streaming access is restricted must not use another channel to get around that restriction. See YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance for the platform’s stated limitations.

If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream

Eligibility to start a mobile broadcast is different from keeping a prerecorded stream running continuously. YouTube’s mobile thresholds determine who can use that mobile route; they do not make a phone a reliable always-on streaming system. For a 24/7 channel built from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports uploaded content, not camera broadcasts, and streams to YouTube only. Read more at StreamNeo.

Or let it run in the cloud

Upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud with nothing left running at home; your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
