Live-stream access belongs to the channel, not simply the Google Account you used to sign in. Then check that channel’s permissions and live-stream eligibility. If the option is missing only in an encoder or another app, the app may not support switching between channels.
1. Confirm the active YouTube channel
YouTube says you can use only one channel at a time. In YouTube, open your profile menu and check the channel name and icon. Make sure they belong to the channel you intend to stream from before checking its eligibility.

- If the wrong channel is active, switch to the intended one from the profile menu, then check whether Go Live is available there.
- If a channel you manage does not appear in the switcher, try switching to it in YouTube Studio.
- If it is a Brand Account channel, confirm that the Google Account currently signed in is listed as a manager of that Brand Account.
These checks distinguish a channel-selection or permission problem from a restriction on the channel itself. YouTube’s guidance is in Switch between channels on a Google Account.

2. Check whether that channel is eligible to livestream
YouTube’s current Help guidance, accessed in 2026, says a channel needs to be verified and must have had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Age, Community Guidelines, copyright, or other restrictions can affect access depending on the circumstances.

- Open YouTube Studio for the selected channel.
- Check the channel’s livestream access status and look for notices about verification, strikes, or restrictions.
- If the channel is not verified, follow YouTube’s verification process for that channel.
- If Studio shows a restriction or strike, follow the notice and YouTube’s instructions rather than trying to stream from a different channel.
YouTube says a strike can prevent livestreaming for 14 days. That is separate from the 90-day restriction lookback used in its eligibility guidance. While a livestream restriction is active, YouTube prohibits using another channel to livestream as a workaround; switching channels does not remove the restriction. 3. If Go Live works in Studio but not in your streaming app
If the channel can livestream in YouTube Studio but an encoder or other third-party app selects the wrong channel or returns an error, the issue may be how that app handles channel selection. Some older or third-party apps do not support switching among channels linked to Brand Accounts. That points to an app compatibility or selection issue, but does not by itself prove a YouTube platform fault.

- Update the app to its latest available version.
- Where the app offers Google sign-in, sign in using the Google Account email and password associated with the channel.
- If the app cannot switch channels, set the intended channel as the default channel for apps that do not support switching.
- Check that the app is connected to the intended channel before starting a stream.

If you have reached YouTube’s daily limit for creating livestreams, YouTube recommends trying again in 24 hours. This waiting period applies to that limit; it is not a general activation delay after every channel switch. See YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance.
