Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo run a prerecorded children’s story playlist continuously on YouTube, create the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and send it through an encoder using the stream URL and private stream key. Set the audience accurately: if the stories are directed to children, choose “Made for Kids.” The biggest catch is archiving: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep your own recording and do not promise viewers a complete replay.
Before you start: channel eligibility and planning
- Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream access may take up to 24 hours to enable, so set up and test well before launch. YouTube’s live-stream setup tips
- Plan how the playlist will repeat, who will monitor the broadcast, and what happens if the encoder or connection fails. A continuous stream needs operational oversight even when playback is prerecorded.
- Arrange local recording and a continuity or restart plan. YouTube’s automatic archive is described for streams shorter than 12 hours; streams beyond that may not be captured, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance
Set up the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the stream. Choose the audience setting in Live Control Room; do not assume that a playlist title or an automated classifier makes the choice for you.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Use RTMPS where supported for encrypted transport.
- Configure the encoder, then preview the incoming feed in Live Control Room. Check picture, sound, playlist order, and stream health before starting the public broadcast.
- Start the encoder’s output and confirm the stream is live in YouTube Studio. Keep an operator available to respond to health warnings or an interruption.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and stream-key setup are documented in its live encoder help.

Choose encoder settings and test them
Use a codec and bitrate supported by YouTube and suited to the resolution, frame rate, and upload capacity. YouTube documents H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Follow the exact current settings guidance for the encoder you use: YouTube Live encoder settings.

|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a requirement that every story stream use those resolutions or a guarantee of picture quality. Check your actual upload speed, leave bandwidth headroom, and test the feed under expected operating conditions. A bitrate that uses nearly all available upload capacity can make the stream unstable. Monitor the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators after launch. YouTube’s instruction is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”

Choose the audience setting accurately
YouTube requires creators to identify whether content is Made for Kids. Stories directed to children should be marked accordingly; the decision depends on the intended audience and factors such as subject matter and emphasis on children’s characters, themes, toys, or games. Creators are responsible for accurate settings, and YouTube may override them in cases of error or abuse. If a particular story’s status is unclear, consult YouTube’s guidance or qualified counsel rather than treating this article as a legal determination. YouTube’s Made for Kids guidance
What changes on a Made for Kids live stream
YouTube limits data collection on Made for Kids content and does not serve personalized ads on it. It also disables features including live chat and live chat donations, notifications, comments, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and Save to playlist/Watch Later. Do not build the broadcast around chat interaction or tell viewers they can save the live stream to a playlist. The audience setting affects the viewer experience as well as channel operations. What to expect from a 24/7 stream’s replay
A 24-hour broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube archive. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Very long streams may also have limited or unavailable DVR rewind. Record the program locally if you need a reliable copy, and explain to viewers that a complete replay may not appear on YouTube. For archival needs, consider shorter broadcast sessions, while accounting for the work of ending and restarting the stream and maintaining continuity. YouTube’s archive and DVR guidance

Keeping prerecorded stories live: options to consider
YouTube’s encoder directory lists third-party tools, but YouTube notes that listed products are not made by YouTube. Its directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and also lists AWS Elemental MediaLive. The directory is not a guarantee of uptime or a recommendation for a particular budget. Before choosing a service or self-managed setup, check automated playlist playback and restart behavior, who monitors failures, local-recording support, ingest compatibility, and current terms and cost. Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel is not verified, has a recent live-stream restriction, or first-time access is still being enabled. | Check channel eligibility and enablement in YouTube Studio; allow up to 24 hours for initial live-stream access. |
| Live Control Room does not receive a feed | Incorrect stream URL or key, or the encoder is not sending output. | Compare the encoder’s ingest details with the current Live Control Room values, confirm output is running, and keep the stream key private. |
| Unstable stream or health warnings | Upload capacity is too low for the chosen bitrate, or the encoder settings are incompatible. | Run an upload speed test, leave headroom, use CBR and supported settings, then test at the intended resolution and frame rate. Adjust bitrate or output settings and monitor stream health. |
| Viewers cannot chat, get notifications, or save the stream | Those features are disabled for Made for Kids content. | Plan the viewer experience without those features; do not change the audience designation unless the content’s audience setting was actually inaccurate. |
| No full replay appears after a long broadcast | Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR rewind can be limited on very long streams. | Use a local recording for archival purposes and avoid promising a complete YouTube replay. |
