These features address different moments. If you want a post-stream handoff, configure Live Redirect. If you want viewers to choose a next step while a video is ending, use an end screen. You can configure both for their separate purposes.

How to set up YouTube Live Redirect
Check sender eligibility and destination permission
- YouTube Help says a creator sending a Live Redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- For a redirect to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow your channel to redirect to its content. You can ask the recipient to check its redirect settings before you schedule the handoff.
Set the recipient channel’s permissions
The recipient can manage who is allowed to redirect to its content in YouTube Studio. YouTube lists options to allow channels the creator subscribes to (unless subscriptions are private), all channels, or selected channels. The all-channels option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channels option or a manual list. A selected-channel list can include up to 100 channels and can be used with the subscribed-channels setting.

- In YouTube Studio, open Content, then select the Live tab.
- Edit the source live stream.
- Open Customization. Under Redirect, select Add.
- Select a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream, then save the setup.
- When the source stream ends, YouTube displays a confirmation. You can also configure a Premiere to redirect after it finishes.
Prepare viewers for the transition
If the destination is a Premiere, schedule it before configuring the source stream’s redirect. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance suggests allowing about two seconds for the Premiere screen to reload. Tell viewers to wait briefly at the end of the source stream. You can also pin a message in the Premiere’s live chat directing viewers to the live stream, and allow other streamers to redirect to your live stream if you want to receive viewers from their streams.

Live Redirect does not guarantee that every viewer will continue. TeamYouTube’s May 3, 2022 announcement says viewers who have autoplay turned off must click the play button to continue to the selected destination. YouTube’s Help page describes autoplay behavior; if the precise current viewer experience is critical to an event, verify it in-product ahead of time.
How to add an end screen
Check video length and available elements
YouTube allows end screens in the final 5–20 seconds of a video, and the video must be at least 25 seconds long. On a standard 16:9 video, you can add up to four elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer. Options include a video, playlist, subscription prompt, channel promotion, and an external website link for channels in the YouTube Partner Program. A selected video or playlist can come from your channel or another channel.

Add and preview the screen
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Content.
- Select the video, then choose Editor.
- Select End screen and add the elements you want.
- Adjust each element’s timing and placement, then preview the screen before saving.
- After publication, review end-screen performance in YouTube Analytics.
Know when viewers may not see it
End screens are unavailable on videos set as made for kids. YouTube also lists viewing contexts where end screens are not visible, including mobile web (except iPad mobile web), YouTube Music and YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, and 360 videos. Viewers may hide them, and YouTube cautions that they may not always appear or may look different depending on performance, viewer behavior, device, and context.

Which option fits your goal?
- Move viewers after a live stream ends: Use Live Redirect and confirm the recipient’s permission settings in advance.
- Offer a next step as a video ends: Use an end screen, with enough time and visual space in the last 20 seconds.
- Do both: Set up Live Redirect for the post-stream transition and an end screen for an eligible video’s closing seconds. They are separate features in separate Studio areas.
Neither feature is a guaranteed route to higher retention, clicks, or subscriber growth. YouTube’s feature guidance describes how they work, not a controlled comparison of performance.
