For a pre-recorded loop streamed through an encoder over 4G in India, start with 720p at 30 fps and H.264 at 3 Mbps if your upload connection is uncertain. Use Normal latency, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and keep roughly 20% upload capacity in reserve. Move to 1080p30 at 5 Mbps only after testing shows your connection can sustain it at the place and time you will broadcast. These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations—not guarantees about any Indian 4G network.
Choose settings from your measured 4G upload
A 4G indicator does not tell you whether your connection can hold a live encoder’s outbound bitrate steadily. Test upload speed using the same SIM, device or router, location, and time of day you plan to stream. Use the upload result, not download speed, and leave about 20% headroom above the stream’s bitrate. YouTube recommends a speed test to check upload bitrate and advises testing the connection and signal where mobile streaming will take place (YouTube live streaming tips; encoder settings).

As an example, a 3 Mbps stream needs about 3.75 Mbps of sustained upload to leave 20% spare capacity, and a 5 Mbps stream needs about 6.25 Mbps. Treat those as planning calculations, not a guarantee: cellular throughput can fluctuate, so a connection that briefly reaches the target may still drop frames later.

These figures are YouTube’s recommended live ingestion bitrates, not measurements of Indian 4G performance. YouTube publishes separate bitrate guidance for AV1 and H.265; use those values only if the encoder supports the codec and is actually configured to send it. The table above is for H.264.

Set the encoder for a non-interactive loop
Use Normal latency
For a loop that does not depend on real-time audience interaction, select Normal latency. YouTube describes it as offering the lowest viewer-buffering risk. Low and ultra-low latency reduce delay for interaction, but YouTube notes that lower latency can expose playback to more buffering (YouTube latency settings).
Use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval
For RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe frequency, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Set the encoder to the bitrate selected for your output—for example, 3 Mbps for 720p30 H.264—and keep the resolution and frame rate consistent with the source and YouTube’s supported encoder settings (YouTube encoder settings).

- Resolution and frame rate: 720p30 is the cautious starting configuration. Raise resolution or frame rate only when the connection sustains the corresponding bitrate with reserve.
- Codec: H.264 is a straightforward reference choice. YouTube also documents H.265 and AV1, but support depends on the encoder and selected protocol.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Latency: Normal for a pre-recorded, non-interactive program.
Create and test the YouTube stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Its general live-streaming requirements say creators must be at least 16 years old. Review the current YouTube live streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. In the stream setup, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it can send a feed to the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the setup flow.
- Configure the encoder. Select RTMP or RTMPS as supported by the encoder, choose the resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval, then connect it to the stream URL and key. Follow the requirements for the specific codec and protocol.
- Test the actual cellular connection. Before relying on the stream, check upload speed and signal at the broadcast location. Run the loop long enough to observe changes in throughput, and use similar motion and audio to what you intend to broadcast.
- Check preview and stream health. Inspect the YouTube Live Control Room preview before starting for viewers, then monitor stream health while live. Confirm the video plays continuously and the audio is present and stable.
- Plan cellular data and power. YouTube estimates about 10 MB per minute for mobile live streaming. That is a general platform estimate, not a calculation for a particular Indian carrier, plan, codec, or stream duration. Check your plan’s current limits and terms; a 4G Wi-Fi router with a SIM slot is an optional way to connect an encoder, not a remedy for poor local coverage.
Account for long-stream archive limits
A continuous live broadcast has practical limits beyond the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours (YouTube live stream archives). If you need a copy, keep a local recording and check that its file is intact and continuing to grow, as YouTube’s streaming tips advise.

“Loop” describes how the chosen encoder or playback tool repeats a video or playlist; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not specify a special loop bitrate or endorse a particular loop-playback program. Test the source’s repeat behavior, audio, and transitions before broadcasting, and verify that the chosen tool can restart playback without interrupting the feed.

Troubleshoot a 4G loop stream
