Those checks can help locate whether the trouble is tied to a device, Wi-Fi, or broader connectivity; they do not by themselves prove an ACT routing fault. No current ACT outage or specific ACT-to-YouTube route problem is confirmed here.
Start by narrowing down where buffering happens
Change one thing at a time and compare the same live stream. Keep track of the device, playback quality, location, and time so that a change in results is meaningful.

- Device: Does the stream also buffer on another supported device using the same home connection?
- Connection: Does the affected device play the stream more reliably on a different internet connection, such as mobile data? Consider data charges.
- Location: Does playback improve near the router compared with the usual viewing spot?
- Wired versus wireless: If possible, does the same device behave differently on Ethernet?
- Household traffic and quality: Does playback change when other heavy internet use is paused or when YouTube quality is lowered?
YouTube recommends comparing another internet connection and trying another supported device. These are useful comparisons, not conclusive diagnoses. YouTube also notes that “Network congestion and other factors may also cause live programming issues, which can delay the stream.” YouTube Help: Troubleshoot streaming & video issues.
Check YouTube playback and the device
- Lower the playback quality temporarily. Use YouTube’s quality controls and see whether the same live stream becomes steadier. A lower setting is a diagnostic comparison, not proof of the cause.
- Restart the app and device. Close and reopen YouTube; if the issue continues, restart the device.
- Check for updates. Install available YouTube app and device-system updates using the device’s normal update process.
- On a TV, test near the set. YouTube recommends checking the connection next to the TV and manually adjusting playback quality.
- Clear cache only if the device provides that option. Follow the device maker’s instructions rather than using unfamiliar reset or cleanup procedures.
YouTube Help lists connection comparisons, manual quality changes, restarting or updating the device or app, and testing another supported device among its troubleshooting suggestions. It gives 7 Mbps as the minimum recommended connection speed for HD streaming on TV. That figure is not a guarantee for every live broadcast, device, or network condition, and a speed result alone does not identify the source of buffering.

Check the Wi-Fi connection before changing router settings
- Compare beside the router with your usual viewing location. Keep the device and stream the same; move only the device location. Improvement near the router points toward the wireless segment as a possibility.
- Reduce obstructions and interference where practical. ACT identifies router-to-device distance and placement as factors that can affect Wi-Fi.
- Temporarily pause heavy competing use. Stop large downloads or other high-bandwidth household activity, then compare playback. ACT notes that simultaneous use and connected-device demand can contribute to buffering.
- Check whether several devices are affected. A problem on one device differs from a problem across devices, but neither observation alone identifies an ISP route fault.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If the playback device has an Ethernet port and you already have a suitable cable, connect it directly to the router and compare the same stream, device, quality, and time window. Cat 5e or Cat 6 is suitable for this wired comparison, according to ACT’s guidance.

- Ethernet is steady, Wi-Fi is not: This points toward the wireless segment as a likely area to investigate, such as placement, distance, or competing wireless use.
- Both connections buffer: The result does not isolate the cause. It could still involve the device, stream, household connection, congestion, or another factor; it does not prove an ACT route problem.
A wired test can isolate some Wi-Fi variables, but it cannot itself prove or repair an ISP routing issue. Buying a cable is optional and only useful for this comparison if you do not already have one.

Before changing a setting, record its current value so you can restore it. Check router firmware using the router manufacturer’s instructions. ACT identifies firmware and DNS among possible troubleshooting areas, but the available guidance does not establish that changing DNS fixes this YouTube Live symptom.

Do not treat disabling IPv6, changing DNS, or replacing the router as a confirmed ACT-specific fix. An anecdotal suggestion is not enough to show that a setting is responsible or that changing it is safe for your setup.

Include observations that let support understand the scope rather than simply reporting “YouTube buffers”:
- Your city or locality and the dates and times the problem occurred.
- The affected device, YouTube app or playback method, and whether other devices or services are affected.
- Whether playback changed beside the router, with competing traffic reduced, or at a lower YouTube quality.
- Whether the same device and stream behaved differently on another connection or over Ethernet, if you could test either.
These details help describe what you observed. They are not a route trace or a formal diagnosis of YouTube CDN or ACT routing.
