Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →An “Excellent” encoder status does not prove that audio is reaching YouTube. First read the exact error and timestamp in YouTube Live Control Room, then check the sound at each point in the chain: source, encoder output, local recording, YouTube preview and watch-page playback. That shows whether the fault is in your audio routing, stream format or viewer’s playback settings.
1. Read the detailed Live Control Room message
Open the stream in YouTube Live Control Room and inspect the messages beside the health indicator. The general status and the detailed audio-ingestion result describe different things. YouTube Help’s Live streaming error messages page documents the message “Your encoder is sending no audio.” It also says, “The ingestion stream contains no audio stream” and “Multiple audio streams will cause ingestion problems.” Errors have timestamps and may remain visible until corrected, so use the message and its timing to guide the next check.

If the message identifies missing audio, check whether audio is enabled in the encoder; some encoders have a specific audio checkbox. Confirm that the outgoing stream includes an audio track, and that you are not sending multiple audio streams.

2. Check that the audio source reaches the encoder
In your encoder, confirm that the intended microphone, desktop or application audio, or mixer input is selected and routed to the live output. Check that the source is not muted and that its level meter responds when sound is present. Then listen to the encoder’s output directly if your encoder provides monitoring. YouTube’s live streaming troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream’s sound in the encoder and investigating the audio and video sources routed to it.

The exact menu names depend on the encoder, so look for its audio source, track, mute and enable controls rather than following instructions for a different application.
3. Play the encoder’s local recording
If the encoder makes a local recording or archive, play it and listen for the same audio you expect viewers to hear. YouTube recommends checking the local archive for audio or video problems.

- The local recording is silent: Focus on the selected source, routing, mute state, audio enable control and encoder errors.
- The local recording has sound: Audio reaches at least the encoder’s recording output. Check Live Control Room’s audio messages and compare YouTube preview with watch-page playback next.
4. Verify the audio stream and settings
Check the audio details your encoder is sending and compare them with the error, if any, in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs and recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo audio and 128 Kbps for stereo audio. These are documented recommendations, not proof that sample rate or bitrate caused a silent stream. Start with YouTube’s actual error and confirm that the stream contains one audio stream, not none or several.
5. Compare YouTube preview with viewer playback
Preview the stream in Live Control Room before starting it, then check the watch page. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and monitoring audio and video quality. If you can hear audio in the encoder and local recording but not in YouTube playback, test the preview and watch page separately. Also check the player volume, browser volume and device sound settings; YouTube’s viewer audio troubleshooting guidance recommends checking these playback controls.

6. Check the network only after confirming encoder audio
If audio is already present in the encoder output and local recording but YouTube delivery is impaired, investigate the outbound connection. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance places upload and connection checks after confirming that the stream looks and sounds healthy in the encoder. Check upload capacity and connection reliability; contact your internet provider if you identify a connection problem. If the encoder itself is silent, correct that audio path first.
Quick diagnosis by symptom
| What you observe | Next check |
|---|---|
| Live Control Room says “Your encoder is sending no audio.” | Enable audio in the encoder and confirm it sends exactly one audio stream. |
| Encoder output and local recording are silent. | Check source selection and routing, mute state, audio enablement and encoder errors. |
| Encoder and recording have sound, but YouTube reports an audio error. | Check the stream count, codec and settings against the Live Control Room message. |
| Encoder and recording have sound, but watch-page playback is silent. | Compare preview and watch-page playback; check player, browser and device sound settings. |
| Encoder output is healthy, but delivery is impaired. | Check outbound upload capacity and connection reliability. |
