YouTube Create is a free, ad-free app for editing Shorts and longer videos on Android phones and iPhones. It combines conventional editing with optional AI tools that can assemble existing footage or generate images and short video clips. The app itself and its AI features have different device, country, age, and language requirements, so availability is not the same for every user.
What YouTube Create does
YouTube describes Create as an app for editing Shorts and long-form videos, free of charge and without ads. It is a mobile workflow rather than desktop editing software, and using it requires a Google sign-in, a supported phone, and availability in your location. See YouTube’s Create overview.

You can use it to edit your own footage, or—where eligible—use AI features to help assemble a draft or generate new visual material. Those are different tasks: Edit with AI works from photos and clips you select, while Gemini Omni and Nano Banana can create new video or image content from prompts.

YouTube’s guidance lists Android phones with at least 4 GB of RAM and iPhone XR or newer running iOS 17 or later. A Google sign-in and a supported country or region are also required. YouTube maintains a current list of available locations; check it before relying on access, since regional availability can change.
Meeting the app’s device requirements does not guarantee access to every AI feature. YouTube applies narrower country, age, and language eligibility to some tools.
How to edit videos with AI in YouTube Create
Edit with AI: make a first draft from your footage
Edit with AI can arrange selected photos and video clips into a draft, with options that include music, captions, and voiceover. YouTube’s September 16, 2025 creator update described the feature as transforming raw footage into a first draft with music, transitions, and voiceover in English and Hindi; that announcement referred to an experiment and rollout in selected markets at the time. The current feature guide gives the workflow and its specific limits.

- Select source material: Choose 1–25 photos or video clips. The guide specifies uploads from 5 seconds to 5 minutes.
- Choose draft options: Where available, select options such as voiceover, music, and captions. The guide describes voiceover support initially in Bengali, English, Hindi, and Portuguese; this is not a promise that every language is offered to every user.
- Preview and revise: Review the generated draft and make edits before using it.
- Choose an output length: The listed options are under 15 seconds, 15–30 seconds, and 31–60 seconds.
- Finish the video: Publish it or download it, depending on your needs and the options shown in the app.
These limits and choices describe the AI workflow, not every editing project in Create. Consult YouTube’s AI feature guide and the app for current availability.

The guide documents Gemini Omni video generation for vertical clips up to 10 seconds. Prompts can include controls for lighting and described audio, and reference images can be used where the option is available. This tool generates a new clip rather than simply arranging your existing footage.
Generate images with Nano Banana
Nano Banana creates images from a prompt, optionally using reference images. YouTube’s guide says users can generate four images from a prompt and turn a selected image into an 8-second video. The tool has its own age, regional, and prompt-language restrictions, so it may not appear even when Create is available on your phone.

YouTube’s AI privacy notice says prompts, outputs, content shared with AI features, and feedback may be collected to provide, improve, and develop products and machine-learning technologies. The notice also describes activity settings, retention, deletion controls, and human review. Avoid entering confidential information or personal details into prompts, and review the notice and available account controls if you want to manage AI activity.

Conversational editing is announced for 2027, not generally available yet
On September 23, 2026, YouTube announced that conversational editing in Shorts and YouTube Create would begin rolling out globally on Android and iPhone in early 2027. That is future rollout timing, not confirmation that the feature is available today. See the Made on YouTube 2026 announcement for the stated timing.
