YouTube Create lets you turn clips and photos on your phone into a long-form YouTube video or a Short, then save the finished video to your device or upload it to YouTube. Start by checking that the app is available for your location and phone; then sign in, import your footage, edit, preview, and export or upload.
Check whether YouTube Create is available on your phone
YouTube describes Create as an app for editing long-form videos and Shorts, “free of charge and without ads.” You need to sign in with a Google Account, and the app is limited by both device and location.
- Android: YouTube’s current guidance requires a phone with at least 4 GB of RAM.
- iPhone: iPhone XR or newer running iOS 17 or later.
- Locations: The current list names Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Requirements and supported locations can change. Check YouTube Help’s YouTube Create availability and requirements before downloading if the app is not available in your app store.
Start a project and import clips
- Open YouTube Create and sign in with your Google Account.
- Tap the plus button to start a project.
- Select photos or videos from your phone’s gallery. You can choose multiple items; media saved from other apps on the device can be imported too.
- Tap Import to add the selections to the project.
To return to work in progress, look under Recent Projects. Open a project’s menu to rename, duplicate, or delete it. For a ready-made starting point, YouTube Create templates let you select photos or videos, choose portions of clips, and either export the result or continue editing it. Add and position text
- Open the project and choose Text.
- Add plain text or a text effect, then enter the wording you want displayed.
- Adjust the available text settings, such as duration, size, font, color, background, outline, shadow, or animation.
- Drag the text layer in the frame to position it where it will be visible without obscuring important parts of the video.
Text is an editable layer, so you can revise its wording and appearance as you work. YouTube’s text help page describes the available controls.
Preview, save to your phone, or upload
Preview the project from its editing screen before exporting. When it is ready, choose whether you want a local copy or to publish to YouTube.

Save a video to your phone
- From the project, open More, then tap Export.
- Choose the video quality and export.
- Find the completed video in your phone’s saved media.
Upload directly to YouTube
- Use the export flow and choose Upload to YouTube.
- Add the video’s details, choose its privacy setting, and set its audience.
- Complete the upload. Create supports uploading both long-form videos and Shorts.
Shorts Audio Library limit: If you export a video longer than 15 seconds to your device, music from the Shorts Audio Library is automatically removed from that exported file. Uploading directly to YouTube supports longer licensed music clips, up to 60 seconds. The audio in a saved file therefore may differ from what you hear in the project or what is supported in a direct upload. Optional AI features
YouTube labels Create’s AI-generated features experimental and limits them to select creators and countries. Feature availability is separate from general app availability: for example, Gemini Omni video generation is listed for Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United States, and creates vertical clips up to 10 seconds. Edit with AI has a different country rollout and can assemble a draft from selected photos or videos, voiceover, music, and captions. These are optional features, not requirements for the basic import, text, preview, and export workflow. Check YouTube Help’s AI feature guidance for the current rollout.
