Short answer: YouTube Live is the platform that hosts your broadcast; OBS Studio is software you can use to create and send it. They are not alternatives in the strict sense: an OBS stream can go to YouTube Live. For a simple, continuous prerecorded-video stream, OBS is optional—but if you use it, your computer, power and internet connection must keep working. If you want the stream to run from the cloud instead, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
What are you choosing: a platform or an encoder?
YouTube Live is where viewers watch, chat and find your broadcast. OBS Studio is a software encoder and production tool that can compose and send video to YouTube. You can use YouTube’s live-streaming workflow with OBS; the comparison is about how you produce and keep the stream running, not which of two equivalent services hosts it. YouTube describes encoder workflows for gameplay, screen sharing, external audio/video equipment and more involved productions (YouTube encoder setup; OBS help).
Choose OBS when you need production control
OBS is useful if your 24/7 broadcast needs scenes, overlays, screen capture, gameplay or live audio/video inputs. It is not required just because a stream is live. For a straightforward prerecorded loop, adding an encoder can add a computer and connection that must be maintained without adding a production benefit you need.
Choose a cloud workflow when you need the stream to outlast your setup
A software encoder depends on a functioning computer and stable outbound connection for the duration of the broadcast. Before committing to a long-running stream, consider power, cooling, internet resilience and what you will do after a restart or dropped connection. YouTube and OBS do not establish one universal broadband speed or PC specification for every Indian creator; requirements depend on your video and settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check YouTube eligibility before announcing a launch
YouTube requires a channel to be verified and to have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable and check access before scheduling or promoting a launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
- Verify the channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction in the last 90 days.
- Enable live streaming ahead of time; first activation can take up to 24 hours.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the stream and obtain its stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not share it or publish it.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the stream key using the available option.
- Set the video and output settings to match the source and connection you intend to use. Test the full workflow—including audio, scenes, power and network—before the scheduled start.
- Start streaming in OBS and confirm the incoming feed and status in YouTube Live Control Room before relying on it as the public broadcast.
Exact OBS labels can differ by version and connection method. Use current OBS help and YouTube’s current encoder instructions rather than relying on older third-party setup guides.
Plan the settings and operating routine, not just the start button
There is no single bitrate, resolution or keyframe value established for every OBS-to-YouTube 24/7 stream: the appropriate output depends on the source, chosen quality and available connection. Configure output to suit the video you are actually sending, then test for dropped frames and stable playback in YouTube’s control room. Avoid assuming that a short successful test proves a computer, connection or power supply will remain reliable indefinitely.

- Keyframe interval: follow the current YouTube encoder guidance for the stream type and settings you choose.
- Audio: check that the intended audio source is active and that levels are audible without distortion. A USB microphone is optional, useful only if you need live voice commentary.
- Continuity: plan how to restore the stream after a PC restart, power loss, internet interruption or encoder crash. YouTube hosts the broadcast, but OBS cannot continue sending if the computer or connection is unavailable.
Will a 24/7 live stream count toward watch hours?
Do not treat a continuous broadcast as an automatic route to monetization. YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility, review and channel policies still apply. The standard ad-revenue routes listed in YouTube’s YPP overview are 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the preceding 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days; other requirements and policy review apply (YouTube Partner Program overview). Those thresholds are eligibility routes, not a promise of acceptance or earnings.
For India, check your account’s YouTube Studio → Earn area and the India-localized YouTube monetization guidance. Features have their own requirements and can depend on age, country or region, contract and policy conditions; being in India or starting a live stream does not by itself make every ad or fan-funding feature available.
Originality matters for monetization
YouTube reviews monetization at channel level. Reused content without meaningful original commentary, substantial changes or educational or entertainment value may be ineligible. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy note explains that repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its inauthentic-content policy (YouTube channel monetization policies). A loop or continuous schedule is not a monetization shortcut: make the content itself valuable and compliant.

Will YouTube save the full 24/7 stream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast in full. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its archive guidance recommends keeping a local recording backup if you need a copy (Archive live streams).
If a replay matters, plan shorter broadcasts within the archive guidance and keep a local recording where practical. A local recording also needs enough storage and a working recording setup; it does not remove the need to manage the live stream separately.

You are responsible for having the necessary rights to material sent in a live stream and any archive, including relevant music rights. This applies to music, ambient audio, visuals and third-party footage, whether the stream is live commentary or a repeated playlist. Review YouTube’s live-stream terms, applicable law and YouTube Community Guidelines before broadcasting. Common 24/7 streaming problems and fixes
- Live streaming is unavailable: verify the channel, check for a restriction in the preceding 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- YouTube receives no signal: confirm the correct stream key and YouTube service are set in OBS, then verify OBS is actively sending and inspect Live Control Room.
- The stream stops when you leave: an OBS stream needs its computer, power and internet connection to keep running. Check for sleep settings, overheating, interruptions and a restart/recovery plan.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use shorter planned streams and retain a local backup if the archive is important.
- Monetization is unavailable: check the channel’s Earn status, current YPP eligibility and policy standing; a live schedule does not waive channel-level review or reused-content rules.
- Audio or video rights are uncertain: remove material unless you have the rights needed for live and archived use, including music licensing where relevant.
Or let it run in the cloud
