Pixel Launcher could eventually use location as a factor in app suggestions, but there is no sign the feature is live or confirmed. Android Authority says it spotted revised wording in an Android System Intelligence app version that appears to refer to location; the outlet also says it found no corresponding backend changes. For now, Google’s documented suggestions remain based on app use and routines.
What the report found—and what it doesn’t prove
In an October 6, 2026 report, Android Authority said it found changed app-suggestion wording in Android System Intelligence version C.8.playstore.pixel11.993387747. The wording appears to refer to location, which could mean Google is exploring location-aware suggestions. This is an observation in work-in-progress code, not a Google feature announcement or confirmation of a release. Android Authority’s report cautions that features inferred from unfinished code may never become public.

The distinction matters: Android Authority says it has not seen backend work to change how suggestions are generated. The wording alone does not show that Pixel Launcher currently uses location. The report offers an app being suggested at a familiar place and time as a possible example, but that is an illustration—not a confirmed description of Google’s implementation.

How Pixel app suggestions work today
App suggestions are already part of Pixel Launcher. They can appear in the home screen’s bottom row and in the all-apps list. Google Pixel Help says, “Your phone suggests apps for your favorites based on your recent and most-used apps, as well as your routines.” Google’s current help page describes the existing behavior, not a location-based feature.

- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Google also described routine-based suggestions in its September 8, 2020 Android 11 announcement. Matt Meffin, a Google technical program manager, wrote that Pixel could suggest apps based on daily routines so people could quickly reach tools they needed. That historical description is consistent with Google’s current support guidance; neither source confirms that location is now part of the system. Google’s Android 11 announcement
What location-based suggestions might mean
If the wording points to a feature Google eventually ships, location could potentially help tailor suggestions to context—for example, an app associated with a recurring place. But the report does not establish how that would work, whether location would be combined with routines or replace them, or what data and permissions would be involved. Those details remain unknown, as does whether the feature will ship at all.

How to manage suggested apps now
You can control current suggestions from Pixel Launcher’s home-screen settings:

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Touch and hold an empty area of the home screen.
- Tap Home settings, then Suggestions.
- Choose whether suggested apps appear in the all-apps list and on the home screen.
To keep a suggested app available, pin it. To block an individual app, drag it to Don’t suggest app. Google says that turning suggestions off stops new suggestions until you turn the feature back on. These controls apply to the existing suggestions described in Google Pixel Help; they do not indicate that location-based suggestions are available.
