Yes—but only through an unofficial emulator called ProsperoEden, and only on a PS5 that can run homebrew. It is not a Sony or Nintendo feature, and it does not make Switch games work on an ordinary PS5. The catch is that you need a compatible modified console and must supply your own game files, keys and firmware.
How Switch games run on a PS5
ProsperoEden is an unofficial PlayStation 5 port of the Eden Nintendo Switch emulator. The project says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Eden’s team or Sony. Its repository describes the software as early alpha and warns that compatibility and performance vary by game.
That distinction matters: this is homebrew software, not backward compatibility built into the PS5. Installing it requires a PS5 setup capable of running homebrew. The available reports do not establish that every PS5 model or system-software version can be modified, so owning a PS5 alone is not enough to know whether this will work for you.
What the current project lists
As of October 3, 2026, the project repository lists version 1.000.040. Its documentation recommends a Vulkan renderer and also lists an OpenGL renderer. The feature list includes per-game resolution and renderer settings, handheld and docked modes, DualSense support, save import and export, and game-file storage on internal storage, an M.2 drive, an external drive or USB storage.

Some news coverage reflects earlier builds rather than the repository’s current feature list. Notebookcheck’s October 3 report said the emulator used only OpenGL and lacked Vulkan support; Tom’s Hardware’s September 28 report covered an earlier build and firmware testing. Those reports remain useful for the particular game results they describe, but not as the latest guide to supported renderers.

These figures should not be read as a compatibility list or a promise that a game will perform the same on another build or setup. Tom’s Hardware described Breath of the Wild as unplayable in its September 28 snapshot and also reported major issues with Animal Crossing: New Horizons at around 15 FPS. Android Authority’s September 29 account summarized user reports—not verified editorial testing—of Cuphead and Hollow Knight at 60 FPS, and Horizon Chase Turbo, Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Metroid Dread around 40–50 FPS.
“Playable” therefore depends on the title, software build and setup. A reported frame rate alone does not capture glitches, rendering problems or other issues that can make a game difficult or impossible to play.

What you need, and what the app does not include
The project README’s install outline calls for installing the release files in the PS5 homebrew location, supplying personally dumped game keys, firmware and game files, selecting their folder in the app, then reopening it so setup can be checked. The folder can be stored on internal storage, an M.2 or external drive, or a USB device.
ProsperoEden does not include keys, firmware, games or other copyrighted console data. The project says not to download or redistribute those files. The sources do not settle the legality of console modification or emulation in every jurisdiction, or the effect modification may have on a warranty; check applicable law and manufacturer terms rather than assuming a universal answer.

Controls and other documented features
The repository says video, audio, controller input and saves have been confirmed working. It documents support for up to four DualSense controllers, game audio, save data, save import and export, and a performance overlay. The documentation does not establish that you need a separate Switch controller.
Is it worth trying?
ProsperoEden is a real way to attempt to run some Switch games on a PS5, but it is an experimental homebrew project—not a practical replacement for a Switch or a feature that works on every PS5. It may interest people who already have a compatible homebrew setup and understand that individual games can perform very differently. If you are considering buying a PS5 specifically for Switch games, the available evidence does not establish that a particular console or firmware will support this setup.
