Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo keep an admin account and a merchant account signed in at the same time in one browser, Yii 2 must store each context’s authenticated identity under a different session key—and, if remember-me is enabled, use a different identity-cookie name. A proposed approach also prefixes ordinary session keys and flash data by context. That is an implementation pattern, not a universally tested Yii recipe: validate it against the application’s routing, session usage, login/logout flows, and cookie security before relying on it.
Why two Yii 2 logins can collide
Yii’s yiiwebUser application component manages authentication state. When session support is enabled, it persists identity information in the session so that authentication survives later requests. Auto-login, when enabled, can also use an identity cookie to restore an identity. If two application areas share the same identity storage parameter or identity-cookie name, signing into one context can replace or restore the identity used by the other.

Yii exposes idParam as the session key used to retrieve the authenticated identity. Its User API also documents session ID regeneration when the identity changes. Both details matter when designing separate admin and merchant login contexts: separating the key is central, but login, logout, cookie restoration, and session lifecycle behavior must all be checked together.

What the proposed context-based approach changes
The example separates two contexts—admin and merchant—by determining the current context from the request path and selecting a different idParam and identity-cookie name for each. It also proposes a custom Session component that prefixes ordinary session keys and isolates flash data by context. The example is an approach to evaluate, not a guarantee of tenant isolation or compatibility with every Yii component.

- 【Powerful Load-bearing】12U Network Rack Open Frame is constructed from durable cold rolled steel; Rack shelf supports enhance stability, wall-mounted capacity of 130lbs, the ground-mounted up to 260lbs
- 【Considerate Designs】Open-frame layout, including a top panel adding space, anti-slip shelf stops fixing devices and compatible racks for stack and expansion to meet requirements of home server rack
- 【Complete Accessories】A 12U open frame server rack, two ventilated shelves, four shelf stops, four velcro straps and a set of equipment mounting screws
- 【Versatile Application】Ideal for space-efficient multi-device setups in warehouses, retail, classrooms, offices and more; Excellent choices as AV Rack/IT Rack
- 【Effortless Setup】 Network Rack includes hardware, a comprehensive manual, mounting hole drilling template and an online assembly video to simplify setup
- Authentication-only separation: Distinct identity session parameters and identity-cookie names target the login state and remember-me restoration.
- Broader session separation: Prefixing ordinary keys and flash messages can reduce overlap in other session data, but it changes the keys the application sees. Inspect modules, extensions, and shared workflows before applying it globally.
- Context selection: A path prefix is only the example’s boundary. Use a routing or application boundary that is reliable for your deployment; do not assume URL prefixes alone establish a secure tenant boundary.
The source describing this pattern does not report test results or establish compatibility with a particular Yii version, application topology, or multi-tenant security model. Do not treat the customization as a framework-endorsed recipe or assume it automatically isolates RBAC, caches, or other state outside the session.
Validate the whole authentication lifecycle
Configure the context-specific identity storage consistently for every request in that context. A mismatch can leave a login working on one request but fail during a redirect, a later page load, or auto-login restoration.

- Choose the boundary: Define how requests resolve to admin or merchant, and ensure that the same decision is made for login, subsequent authenticated requests, and redirects.
- Separate identity persistence: Give each context its own
idParamand, if auto-login is used, its own identity-cookie name. Confirm the selected values are applied consistently. - Test login and logout in both directions: Sign into admin, then merchant in the same browser; verify each remains the intended identity when switching contexts. Repeat in the reverse order. Check each logout separately.
- Check session ID regeneration: Yii documents regeneration when identity changes. Verify that a login or identity switch in one context does not invalidate or unexpectedly alter the other context’s state.
- Audit broader session use if prefixing keys: Check code and extensions that read or write session values or flash messages, including flows shared between admin and merchant.
- Test remember-me and failure paths: Where auto-login is enabled, verify restoration after closing and reopening the browser as intended, and test expired or removed cookies and sessions.
Logout behavior is not interchangeable
Yii’s default logout removes session data. Calling logout(false) retains it. Those semantics can affect more than the currently visible identity when contexts share session infrastructure, so verify what is removed or retained in the actual application rather than assuming that separate identity keys alone make logout independent.

Secure cookies and CSRF still matter
The example’s sample configuration sets secure to false; do not copy that into a production HTTPS deployment without reviewing the deployment configuration. Yii documents cookie controls including secure and httpOnly, and SameSite support beginning with Yii 2.0.21. Select cookie settings appropriate to the actual hosts and transport. Keep CSRF protection enabled unless a specific, reviewed requirement justifies a change; separating login state does not replace CSRF defenses.
