Yahoo Mail does not appear to be experiencing a widespread outage. Third-party status monitors currently report that Yahoo’s sign-in page is reachable and show no current Yahoo Mail problem. That does not rule out a partial or regional issue, or a problem specific to your account, browser, app, or network. Try Yahoo in a private window, test a second network, and use Yahoo’s official Sign-in Helper if you still cannot get in.
Status checked September 28, 2026 (UTC). Outage conditions can change; the monitors cited below are independent services, not official Yahoo incident notices.
Is Yahoo Mail down right now?
The available status checks do not show an active widespread Yahoo Mail outage. UpDownRadar reports that login.yahoo.com is reachable with HTTP 200, while Down for Everyone or Just Me reports no current Yahoo Mail problem. These are third-party checks, not a statement from Yahoo, and a working sign-in endpoint does not prove that every Mail feature or region is working normally.

- Does Yahoo sign-in load, and does Yahoo Mail load after you sign in?
- Do both the website and Yahoo Mail app fail, or only one?
- Does the problem persist in another browser, device, or network, such as cellular data instead of home Wi-Fi?
- Are multiple independent outage monitors showing unusual reports at the same time?
- Can someone using a different network or region access Yahoo Mail?
A sign-in page that loads but rejects a login is different from a website outage. It may indicate an authentication problem, a security challenge, an account lock, or a local session issue. If only one browser or network fails, investigate that setup before assuming Yahoo is down.
What “fixed” can mean
- Widespread outage appears resolved: monitoring no longer shows an unusual problem and the sign-in endpoint responds, though individual users may still have trouble.
- Partial recovery: some people can sign in while others continue to see errors, loops, or verification failures.
- No outage detected: status checks look normal, so a browser, network, app, or account-specific cause becomes more likely.
After an apparent recovery, retest in a private window and on a second network. A single successful page load—or one person’s report—cannot settle whether every part of Yahoo Mail is healthy.
What to try first
- Open Yahoo’s sign-in page and Mail page directly.
- Try a private or incognito browser window, then another supported browser if needed.
- Test a second device or switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- If Yahoo asks for verification or displays a lock-related message, stop guessing passwords and repeatedly requesting codes.
- Use Yahoo’s Sign-in Helper for account recovery.
- After regaining access, check recovery details and account activity.
Yahoo’s sign-in troubleshooting guidance recommends trying another browser and another Yahoo sign-in page. If the issue follows your account across browsers and networks, prioritize the account-recovery steps below.
Fix a browser login loop or blank Mail page
If Yahoo reloads the sign-in screen, Mail is blank, or buttons do nothing, work through these checks in order. If private browsing works, the normal browser’s stored site data or an extension is a likely lead.

- Quit and restart the browser.
- Temporarily disable extensions that can alter pages, including ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, and browser enhancements. Re-enable them one at a time to find a conflict.
- Confirm JavaScript is enabled and update the browser.
- Try another supported browser.
- As a brief diagnostic test, disconnect a VPN or proxy, or temporarily pause antivirus web filtering or firewall filtering. Turn protection back on immediately afterward; do not leave security software disabled.
- Restart the device and test Yahoo from another device or network.
Yahoo’s website troubleshooting guide also recommends clearing cache, updating the browser, enabling JavaScript, disabling browser enhancements, testing another device, and checking security software or DNS-related problems. Resetting a browser should be a later step because it can remove settings and saved data.
Choose the fix that matches your error
“Invalid ID or Password”
Check Caps Lock and Num Lock, then type your Yahoo ID and password manually instead of relying on autofill. Remove or update any outdated saved password. Yahoo says this message means the submitted combination does not match its records; if the password changed unexpectedly, an unauthorized change is one possibility, but the message alone does not prove an account was compromised. Use the Sign-in Helper if you have forgotten your ID, suspect a password change, or cannot sign in. After recovery, review your account settings and recent activity. Yahoo’s sign-in help covers this error.
Sign-in screen keeps reloading
Yahoo’s documented sequence for a repeating sign-in screen is:
- Click Not you? if that option appears.
- Enter your Yahoo ID and password, then click Sign in.
- If the loop continues, clear Yahoo cookies and restart the browser.
- Try another supported browser or a different Yahoo sign-in page.
Labels and available options can vary by account or region. See Yahoo’s sign-in troubleshooting page.

Temporary Error 15, 16, or a similar message
Yahoo documents temporary errors that can be associated with an unsupported browser or operating system, sessions open in multiple browsers or devices, or stale cookies. Restart the browser, clear cache, use a supported browser and operating system, sign out of other devices, and sign in again. Yahoo says some temporary errors may clear within minutes to hours; waiting is reasonable if the error is temporary, but use Sign-in Helper if the problem is actually a password or recovery issue. See Yahoo’s guidance for Temporary Error 15 and Temporary Error 16.
Account locked or repeated security challenges
Yahoo may temporarily lock an account after too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts. Yahoo says a temporary lock can clear automatically after 12 hours; its Sign-in Helper may restore access sooner. The exact state can vary by account. Stop guessing passwords, use one trusted device and network, and turn off a VPN or proxy while recovering access. If Yahoo is asking for verification, avoid repeatedly requesting SMS codes. Follow the displayed wait period or use the official recovery route. Yahoo describes temporary locks and sign-in security challenges in its sign-in guidance.
Verification code does not arrive
Use Resend once, confirm the recovery phone number or email shown is correct, check spam or junk folders for email codes, and check whether your ISP is blocking Yahoo email. Verification links may expire, so request a fresh one if the link is no longer valid. If an alternate method is offered, use it rather than repeatedly requesting the same code. Yahoo’s verification-code help explains these checks.
Yahoo Account Key prompt does not arrive
Account Key uses an approval prompt on your phone rather than a password. Make sure Yahoo app notifications are enabled, then click or tap Resend on the sign-in page. If the prompt still does not appear, choose Use text or email to sign in or Try another way to sign in, if offered, and use an available recovery method. Yahoo’s Account Key guidance covers alternate verification routes.

Yahoo Mail app fails but the website works
Force-close and reopen the app, update it, restart the phone, and test Wi-Fi and cellular data separately. Temporarily disconnect a VPN or filtering service if one is active. Sign out and back in only if the app allows it and you have your password and recovery methods available. Reinstalling may repair damaged app data, but it can trigger a new Account Key or verification challenge; do not make it an early step if you are unsure you can recover the account. Use Yahoo Mail in a mobile browser as a temporary alternative. Yahoo’s temporary-error guidance also suggests trying the Yahoo Mail app or a native mail app when browser access continues to fail.
Third-party mail app stopped connecting
First confirm that Yahoo webmail works. Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and other clients can fail independently of Yahoo’s web sign-in. If webmail works, check the client’s authentication and mail settings rather than treating it as a Yahoo website outage. Some older third-party apps require a Yahoo-generated app password instead of the regular account password; Yahoo explains this in its Account Key support information.
Recover your Yahoo account safely
- Open Yahoo’s official Sign-in Helper.
- Enter the recovery email address or choose the recovery-phone option.
- Follow Yahoo’s identity-verification prompts.
- Reset the password if Yahoo offers that option, then sign in through Yahoo Mail.
- After you regain access, review recovery methods and check for unfamiliar account activity.
Yahoo’s password-reset instructions direct users to Sign-in Helper, a recovery email or phone, and the prompts shown there. If you no longer control the listed recovery methods and Yahoo cannot verify that you own the account, recovery may not be possible. Do not pay an unrelated service that claims it can bypass Yahoo’s verification process.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Tell a Yahoo outage from a local network problem
Try cellular data instead of home Wi-Fi, or a trusted alternate Wi-Fi connection. If Yahoo works on cellular but not Wi-Fi, investigate local DNS, router filtering, ISP routing, firewall rules, or network-level blocking before concluding Yahoo is down. Restart the router if other websites are also failing. Check whether the problem is limited to an office, school, ISP, VPN, or country. Yahoo’s website help recommends testing another device and includes DNS-error troubleshooting.

When to wait, and how to contact Yahoo safely
Wait and retry periodically if independent monitors show a broader disruption or Yahoo displays a temporary error. If Yahoo reports an account lock, follow the stated wait period or use Sign-in Helper instead of continuing to guess. For an urgent message while troubleshooting, use another email account or an available mail app only if you can access it safely.
Start support requests at Yahoo Help Central. Yahoo says support channels vary by product and region, and Contact Us may not be offered for every issue. Do not call phone numbers found in random search results, pop-ups, PDFs, forums, or social posts. Never give a supposed support agent your password, one-time verification code, or recovery code. Yahoo’s support guidance explains availability; its phone-support warning advises users to rely on Yahoo’s official help routes.
Quick diagnosis
| What you see | Likely area to investigate | Best next step | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yahoo pages fail on several devices and networks | Possible widespread or regional service issue | Compare independent status reports and retry periodically | Repeatedly changing your password without evidence it is wrong |
| Yahoo loads, but login fails across browsers and networks | Credentials, security challenge, or account lock | Use Sign-in Helper and follow any lock or verification prompts | Guessing passwords or cycling through code requests |
| Login works in private mode or another browser | Cookies, cached session, or extension conflict | Clear Yahoo site data and disable extensions one at a time | Leaving security or privacy extensions disabled permanently |
| Yahoo works on cellular but not Wi-Fi | Router, DNS, ISP, VPN, or network filtering | Test another trusted network and inspect local filtering | Assuming a Yahoo outage from one network’s failure |
| Website works, app does not | App version, app session, device, or app network path | Update and restart the app; test cellular and Wi-Fi | Reinstalling before confirming recovery access |
| Password is accepted, but verification stalls | Recovery contact, delivery delay, notification, or expired link | Resend once, check spam and recovery details, then try another method | Sharing one-time codes with anyone |
| Yahoo webmail works, but a mail client fails | Client authentication or app-password requirement | Check client settings and whether an app password is required | Treating the client failure as proof webmail is down |
If you seek help, note the exact error, device, browser or app, network, and time it occurred. Those details help distinguish a temporary service issue from an account or setup problem.
