XREAL AURA is not a Google-branded product, and its price is not confirmed at $1,279. XREAL says the Android XR glasses are expected in Fall 2026 and that the base model will cost no more than US$1,500 before tax; Meta says its VR Glasses will go on sale in Spring 2027 for US$1,299.99. Those are announced plans, not proof that either product is already available.
Who makes AURA, and what is Google’s role?
AURA is made by XREAL. Google supplies the Android XR platform: in its June 16, 2026 announcement, Google described AURA as XREAL’s first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR. Calling them “Google’s Xreal Aura” therefore overstates Google’s role; “XREAL AURA, powered by Android XR” is more accurate.

How do the announced price and launch dates compare?
| Product | Announced price | Expected sale or launch window | What is still unconfirmed |
|---|---|---|---|
| XREAL AURA | XREAL says the base model’s final retail price will not exceed US$1,500 before applicable taxes. This is a price ceiling, not the final price. | Fall 2026, according to XREAL; shipping timing depends on the official launch in each region. | Final price, configurations and precise regional shipping dates. |
| Meta VR Glasses | US$1,299.99, announced by Meta in September 2026. | Spring 2027, according to Meta. | Actual availability is not established by the announcement. |
XREAL’s AURA product page gives the current price ceiling and launch information. Meta’s September 2026 announcement gives its product’s announced price and planned sale window. AURA’s ceiling does not establish that it will be cheaper than Meta’s glasses: its final price could be below or above Meta’s announced figure, provided it stays within XREAL’s stated limit.

What is known about AURA’s display and software?
Optical see-through display
XREAL says AURA has a 70° optical see-through display. That describes the announced display approach, not tested image quality or a direct measure of how its viewing experience compares with Meta’s.

Android XR and apps
XREAL says AURA will include Gemini AI assistance and access to Google Play apps, including Google Maps, YouTube, Gemini, Chrome and Photos. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities; they do not establish how well particular apps will work on the finished device.
Compute arrangement
XREAL says a compute puck combines the Snapdragon Reality Elite platform with the XREAL X1S Spatial Coprocessor in the glasses. Google’s announcement also identifies AURA as wired XR glasses. The available announcements do not establish a comparable Meta compute or battery arrangement, so a hardware comparison on those points would be premature.

What is known about Meta VR Glasses?
Meta has announced a US$1,299.99 price and a Spring 2027 sale window, and positions the product around immersive media and workspace use. The announcement information cited here does not provide comparable details for optical see-through display, app access, prescription support, or compute and battery arrangement. That makes it possible to compare the companies’ announced timing and price, but not to conclude that the two products offer equivalent features or image quality.

XREAL’s product page lists supported launch regions including the United States, United Kingdom, several European countries, Japan and South Korea. The page says shipping timing is subject to the official product launch time in each region, so the list should not be read as a precise delivery schedule.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should buyers wait to verify?
- For AURA: XREAL’s final price and configurations, regional shipping dates, and practical details of its display and app experience.
- For Meta VR Glasses: actual availability and further product details beyond the announced price, sale window and intended experiences.
- For either product: independent hands-on evidence about comfort, image quality, tracking, battery life and performance. Company announcements do not establish those results.
If choosing based only on current announcements, AURA has the earlier expected launch window, while Meta has a specific announced price. Neither fact settles which product is the better buy: AURA’s final price is pending, and the public details do not support a tested, feature-for-feature verdict.
