Some models need separate video and USB data cables; others can use USB-C for video only when both the computer port and cable support it. Then check power, connections, and the computer’s display mode before testing another computer.
What “No Signal” means
The display is powered but is not receiving a usable video feed from the computer. On the Artist 22 Plus specifically, XP-Pen says the indicator is orange when the display has power but no signal, and blue when it is connected to the computer and switched on. Indicator meanings can vary by model, so check your own manual rather than applying the 22 Plus colors to every XP-Pen display. XP-Pen Artist 22 Plus connection instructions

Check the cable setup for your exact model
Before changing settings or buying a cable, identify the model name on the display or its packaging and open that model’s manual. Follow its connection diagram: the ports and cable arrangements differ, and a setup that works on one Artist model may not work on another.
If your model uses USB-C for video
A USB-C connector’s shape does not guarantee that it carries video. For the Artist 10, 12, 13, and 16 2nd Generation models, XP-Pen requires a full-featured USB-C cable and a computer USB-C port that supports video Alternate Mode. A charge-only or data-only port or cable is not enough. XP-Pen says all Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 ports on Mac qualify for these named models; for other computer ports, it advises checking with the computer manufacturer. XP-Pen USB-C connection FAQ

As XP-Pen’s FAQ puts it: “Please make sure that the USB-C port on your computer supports Alternate Mode(All Thunderbolt 3/4 ports on Mac are qualified), otherwise, the tablet will get ‘No Signal, Power Saving’.” This guidance applies to the models named in that FAQ.
If your model uses HDMI and USB
On the Artist 22 Plus, HDMI carries the video signal, a USB-C-to-USB-A or USB-C-to-USB-C lead carries data, and the display also connects to power. Check all three parts of that model’s setup. This is an example for the Artist 22 Plus, not a universal wiring instruction for every XP-Pen display. XP-Pen Artist 22 Plus connection instructions

Restore the video signal step by step
- Confirm the model’s required wiring. Use the manual’s connection diagram to identify the video, data, and power leads. Make sure the video cable reaches a video output on the computer, not just a USB port that supplies power or data.
- Check power and reseat the cables. Confirm that the display’s power adapter and cord are connected. Unplug and firmly reconnect every lead required by the model, including video and USB/data. XP-Pen’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the cords are seated securely. XP-Pen Artist 12 troubleshooting XP-Pen Artist Series troubleshooting
- Set Windows to use more than one screen. Press Windows+P, then choose Duplicate to mirror the computer screen or Extend to make the XP-Pen a separate workspace. XP-Pen says choosing “one screen only” can leave the other display black with no signal. XP-Pen Windows display-mode instructions
- Restart both devices. After reseating the connections, restart the computer and power-cycle the display. This can help the computer detect the display again.
- Test with another computer. If the screen still has no signal, connect the display using its required cables to a second computer. XP-Pen’s Artist 12 manual and Artist 22E guidance recommend cross-computer testing. The result helps narrow down the problem, but by itself does not prove which component has failed. Use the test results to narrow down the cause
- The screen works after reconnecting a cable: The connection may have been loose. Keep using the model’s correct wiring and check that the connectors remain seated.
- The screen works after changing Windows display mode: The computer had not been sending video to the XP-Pen while “one screen only” was selected.
- The screen works on a second computer: The original computer’s video output, port compatibility, or display selection is a likely area to investigate. This test does not identify a specific failed part.
- The same error appears on a second computer: The issue remains with the display or its cable setup, but the test alone cannot distinguish between them. Inspect the cables for damage and confirm they are the correct type for the model.
When to contact XP-Pen support
Contact XP-Pen if the display still shows no signal after you have confirmed the model-specific wiring, checked power and connections, selected Duplicate or Extend on Windows, restarted, and tested on another computer. Include the exact Artist model, computer and operating system, cable arrangement, and what happened on each computer. XP-Pen’s troubleshooting guidance recommends contacting support when the issue persists across computers. XP-Pen Artist Series troubleshooting

A driver reinstall is not the first step for a display that has no video signal. Start with the physical video path and computer display selection; driver troubleshooting is more relevant when the picture works but the pen or tablet software is not detected.
