The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is a compact budget tablet whose strongest headline feature is a 9.7-inch, 2048 × 1280 display that can refresh at up to 120 Hz. The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and optional stylus need more careful expectations: the processor is not suited to demanding multitasking or gaming, and the pen lacks pressure sensitivity and palm rejection. Notebookcheck’s review found a strong 16-hour-plus result in its Wi-Fi web-browsing battery test, making this most appealing for everyday browsing, video and light use.
What is the Redmi Pad 2 9.7?
It is the compact 9.7-inch member of Xiaomi’s Redmi Pad 2 range, available in regional configurations that include 4G. It is not the same device as the standard 11-inch Redmi Pad 2: Xiaomi lists the 11-inch model with a 90 Hz display, while the Singapore 4G specifications for this 9.7-inch model list up to 120 Hz. See Xiaomi Singapore’s official specifications for the 9.7-inch 4G configuration.

The 4G configuration is a small-screen Android tablet aimed at routine tasks rather than intensive workloads. Its size makes it easier to carry than a larger tablet, while its display resolution and refresh rate look ambitious for a budget-focused device. Those specifications do not make it a high-performance tablet.

Is the screen 2K and 120 Hz?
The display measures 9.7 inches, has a 2048 × 1280 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio, and supports refresh rates up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi describes the resolution as 2K. The pixel dimensions are the clearest way to compare it with other screens; “2K” is a shorthand, not a different panel specification.

A high refresh rate can make supported scrolling and animations look smoother than on a conventional 60 Hz display. Xiaomi says the refresh rate may be adjusted up to 120 Hz for supported apps and games, so it should not be assumed that every app or activity will run at that rate. The official specifications also list up to 180 Hz touch sampling.
Brightness and flicker
Xiaomi rates the display at 500 nits typical brightness and up to 600 nits in outdoor mode. In Notebookcheck’s 2026 review measurements, the screen averaged 416 cd/m² and reached a maximum of 436 cd/m², below those manufacturer ratings. The published figures come from different kinds of specifications and testing, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable guarantees for every unit or condition.

Notebookcheck reports that the panel does not use PWM for brightness control, but its oscilloscope detected screen flicker. That distinction matters: “no PWM” does not mean the display is entirely flicker-free.

The Singapore 4G model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2, a 6 nm, eight-core platform with an Adreno 610 GPU. Xiaomi lists 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A microSD card can expand storage, subject to card compatibility.

Notebookcheck found performance to be a weak point, particularly under heavier multitasking and gaming loads. The Snapdragon name should not be read as a promise of flagship-class speed. This tablet is a better fit for browsing, video playback and lighter everyday apps than for demanding games or keeping many resource-intensive tasks active at once.
Does the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 support a stylus?
Xiaomi’s optional Redmi Stylus For Pad works as basic stylus input, but Notebookcheck reports that it has no digitizer, palm rejection or pressure sensitivity. You should not buy the tablet expecting the pen experience of a dedicated note-taking or drawing system: resting a hand on the screen can interfere with input, and line weight cannot respond to pen pressure.

For occasional tapping, simple marking or basic handwritten input, a basic stylus may still be useful. For sustained handwriting or art, look for a tablet and pen combination that explicitly supports a digitizer, palm rejection and pressure sensitivity.
How long does the battery last?
Xiaomi lists a 7600mAh typical battery and charging at up to 18W. Its Singapore specification page says the included adapter is 15W. In Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi web-surfing test, its review unit lasted 16 hours and 25 minutes; charging to full took about 1.5 hours in that test. The runtime is a result from one review unit and one test protocol, not a forecast for gaming, mobile data, maximum brightness or every owner’s use.

Does it have 4G?
The configuration covered by Xiaomi Singapore’s official page supports dual SIM dual 4G, as well as Wi-Fi 5 capability, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS with listed satellite systems. Actual mobile connectivity depends on the specific regional model, supported LTE bands and the carrier’s network deployment. Confirm the exact SKU and band compatibility before relying on it for service in a particular country.

These are regional specifications, not a guarantee that every market sells the same configuration. Xiaomi’s Singapore listing names a tablet, adapter, USB Type-C cable, SD card eject tool, quick-start guide and warranty card as box contents. Notebookcheck received a review package without a charger or protective case, illustrating why buyers should check the contents listed for their local retail SKU.
Should you buy the Redmi Pad 2 9.7?
It is worth considering if you want a relatively compact tablet for routine browsing and media, value a high-refresh-rate display and can buy the 4G configuration with bands suited to your carrier. Its battery result in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi test is encouraging, though real-world runtime will vary.
It is a poor match if your priority is demanding gaming, heavy multitasking, or pen-based note-taking and drawing. The display’s 120 Hz capability and the optional stylus are useful only within those limits; neither changes the tablet’s budget-level performance or the pen’s lack of advanced input features.
Pricing and accessory availability are regional. Xiaomi Japan’s April 28, 2026 launch announcement gave suggested prices of ¥24,980 for 4GB/64GB and ¥31,980 for 4GB/128GB, and listed a dedicated cover separately at ¥2,980. These are dated Japanese launch prices, not current prices or a guide to pricing elsewhere. Check local pricing, the precise storage and connectivity variant, and included accessories before buying. Xiaomi’s Japan launch announcement documents those launch details.
