The Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera system pairs a 50MP, 1-inch main camera with LOFIC HDR and a 200MP telephoto whose stated mechanical optical zoom range is 75–100mm equivalent. Xiaomi separately claims optical-quality zoom up to 400mm equivalent; that longer reach is not the same claim as continuous native optical zoom across the entire range.
What is LOFIC on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra?
LOFIC HDR is Xiaomi’s named highlight-handling feature for the 50MP Light Fusion 1050L main camera. Xiaomi describes its aim as “boosting highlight control to capture essential moments” on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra product page.

The main camera is specified at 1-inch sensor size, 23mm equivalent, f/1.67 and optical image stabilization (OIS). In its April 2026 review, TechRadar explains LOFIC as a hardware-level way to provide additional highlight headroom, distinct from relying solely on bracketed, multi-frame HDR. That describes the intended approach; specifications and the explanation alone do not establish how the camera performs in every scene.

Does the Xiaomi 17 Ultra have continuous optical zoom?
It has a stated mechanical optical zoom range of 75–100mm equivalent on its 200MP telephoto camera. Xiaomi says three lens groups enable those focal lengths without digital cropping, and its product material shows positions including 75, 85, 90 and 100mm. This is a variable focal-length optical mechanism within that range—not a claim of continuous native optical zoom all the way to 400mm.

Xiaomi advertises optical-quality zoom up to 400mm equivalent separately. Leica’s February 2026 Xiaomi 17 Series announcement likewise distinguishes 75–100mm mechanical optical zoom from the extended reach up to 400mm equivalent. “Optical-quality” is the company’s description of extended zoom, not evidence that every focal length through 400mm is achieved by the telephoto’s mechanical optics alone.
What are the three rear cameras for?
| Camera | Published specifications | What the range is suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Main | 50MP; 1-inch sensor size; 23mm equivalent; f/1.67; OIS | Everyday framing; Xiaomi associates this camera with LOFIC HDR. |
| Telephoto | 200MP; 1/1.4-inch sensor size; 75–100mm mechanical optical zoom; f/2.39–2.96; OIS | Portraits and more distant subjects, with the lens mechanically changing focal length within the specified range. |
| Ultra-wide | 50MP; 14mm equivalent; f/2.2; 115° field of view on Xiaomi’s global page | Broad scenes and tight spaces. |
These are manufacturer-published specifications, not comparative image-quality results. Sensor resolution, sensor size and focal-length range can help explain the hardware, but they do not by themselves show how the phone compares with another camera phone in real-world photos.

What video can the Xiaomi 17 Ultra record?
Xiaomi Indonesia’s regional specifications page lists rear video up to 8K at 30fps, 4K Dolby Vision up to 120fps, and Log recording up to 4K/120fps. Leica’s February 2026 release specifies Dolby Vision or ACES Log up to 4K/120fps on the main and telephoto cameras. These mode and camera qualifications matter: the specifications do not say that every format, frame rate and camera combination can be used simultaneously.

How to assess the camera claims
For a comparison with another camera phone, separate three questions rather than treating a long zoom number as a complete verdict:
- Native focal-length range: compare the telephoto’s stated 75–100mm mechanical range with any separately described extended-zoom claim.
- Main-camera highlight handling: note that LOFIC is Xiaomi’s hardware-related HDR claim for its main sensor; real-world image quality requires comparable testing.
- Video modes: check resolution, frame rate, format and which camera supports the mode instead of assuming all headline specifications combine.
The cited specifications establish what Xiaomi and Leica claim the system supports. They do not, on their own, establish comparative image quality or independently verified performance figures.
